House of Mirth-a [Dan Collins]

Two firms funded with over $100 million in earmarks from the Democratic Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, John Murtha, were raided and temporarily shut down yesterday by the FBI and IRS. Surprised that you didn’t hear about such big news? Well, it did manage to hit page A6 of the Wall Street Journal today (U.S. Raids Contractors Aided by Murtha):

Federal agents raided two small Pennsylvania defense contractors that were given millions of dollars in federal funding by Rep. John Murtha, chairman of the defense appropriations committee and one of the most powerful men in Congress.

Kuchera Industries and Kuchera Defense Systems shut down for the day after the raid by officers from the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and an Internal Revenue Service criminal unit.

In a statement Thursday night, the Pittsburgh U.S. attorney confirmed that offices in Windber, Johnstown and Summerhill were raided “as part of an ongoing investigation.” A second federal official said that ties to lawmakers would be examined as part of the probe.

This story has legs.

Fiddle-dee-dee. Maybe he can get a Supermax for his district, so they can host all of those Guantanamerans who will be moving by the end of the year, because goodness knows they’ll all be happier there than they have been in the American gulag.

This would be scandal number what for the Democratic party?

  2. B Moe says:

The joy of seeing that walking sack of evil go down would wipe out much of the despair I have been feeling.

  3. happyfeet says:

Murtha is 76 and shows signs of dementia. They better move fast if they for real want to investigate him I think.

  4. Carin says:

B Moe – it would be a bit of sunshine, wouldn’t it?

  5. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

It would be wonderful to to see the phrase “died in prison” in his Wikipedia article.

  6. alppuccino says:

Ever notice that when people rake their leaves and then bag them up in white garbage bags and then lay them by the curb, all the bags look like Murtha’s head? Ever notice that?

  7. Fuzzlenutter says:

This fat, traitorous, sub-human criminal bastard deserves to be gang-raped with a Garden Weasel Gold Garden Claw Cultivator and then tossed in a vat of carborane superacid (H(CHB11Cl11)…

I wish you’d show a little balance in your corruption crime reporting, Dan. There’s a leading Repub in Boca accused of lifting $100-mil from the military cash register for a no-bid gasoline contract in Iraq. Then there’s a city council woman in West Palm awaiting her five-year sentencing. They know she’s getting five-years because two others just got five-years. Three members of the same city council, members of both parties.

The jails are just as full as rethuglidums.

  10. Dan Collins says:

I’m just laughing, thor, because I wasn’t aware that the culture of corruption was so bipartisan. That’s not what the MSM told me.

  12. Carin says:

Oh, lookie here; Monica Conyers is in the news again! She’s having a bit of trouble with her expense account…

In one example, Conyers requested nearly $8,400 for business class airfare to London for a June pension conference. Records later revealed that the plane ticket cost less than $2,700, leaving about $5,700 unaccounted for.

A simple math error. Could happen to anyone.

  13. Carin says:

Oh, and need I mention which party she belongs to? Or, who her husband is?

  14. alppuccino says:

    thor,

you’ve just committed the second most cardinal sin of debate. The first is never get into a life and death match of wits with a Cicilian.

But there are no Democrats in jail When Democrats get investigated for corruption, their fellow criminals cover for them, blame republicans, question the timing, and then go back to eating their own boogers.

    Republicans let their own hang.

Yea, I wonder what radio will sound like once Baracky gets his “localism” dealo going. I’m sure community organizers from Detroit are gonna vote Rush down.

  16. thor says:

Monica Conyers, Sarah Palin, hey, what’s wrong with taking liberties with expensive air fare reimbursements and per diems.

  17. Carin says:

RNC gave Sarah that money. People willingly donated to the Republican party for the election. RNC said “OK” – we’re ok with this.

Conyers used taxpayer money. She’s been asked for proper accounting and has refused.

    Don’t see a difference?

  18. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Great. Barky is going to tell us to whom we can listen.

Maybe we can have barracks like North Korea, where we all fall out for calisthenics at 5 AM and hear the latest from Dear Leader over the PA system.

  19. alppuccino says:

    Carin,

Are you sure that the Conyers lady doesn’t have a huge fat ass that requires its own ticket? Michelle is on the verge of having to pay for her badonk-a-donk.

  20. Carin says:

Well, unlike many of the women on the Detroit City Council, Conyers is well within the one-seat range. But, there are some large women in chambers.

Maybe Rush didn’t cover Sarah’s creative accounting and editing of her expense reports. I’m shocked you’re shocked.

  25. happyfeet says:

The Democrats created the subprime loan fiasco legally. Their corruption is really penny ante stuff next to their actual policies I think. The entire global warming scam? Legal. I think that sort of explains the imbalance between how Democrat vs. Republican corruption gets covered. When our dirty socialist media actually deigns to discuss Democrat corruption, it’s usually at a time when doing so means there’s one less story where they have to artfully evade talking about the consequences of Harry and Nancy and Baracky’s policies. Sort of what passes for a win-win these days.

  26. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

I wonder if anyone is ever going to figure out who turned off CVS validation on Barky’s donation web site?

    HAHAHAHAHAHA! I kill myself sometimes.

  27. thor says:

If you could figure out how to do it right just one time we’d all have a party.

  28. Carin says:

You mean, there are other media outlets than Rush? I’m shocked. I mean, I certainly learned about Monica from Rush. He’s all over the Detroit beat.

And in yet another thread, thor just can’t help bringing up Sarah Palin.

Now, the Mayor of Portland, OR (Democrat) may have finally been in bed with a live boy.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/01/22/gay-mayors-teen-sex-affair-investigated/

Comments, thor? What’s with all these Democrat mayors these days? But don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll remind us that Larry Craig may or may not have had a wide stance at an airport stall.

  30. Dan Collins says:

At least he was a live boy.

  31. John Murtha Involved In Shady Dealings? Heavens No!…

A little behind the curve on this but I had to take the opportunity to let Nelson get a hearty “Ha Ha” out and point his mocking finger in the face of the fat old sack of dung named John Murtha.  Related question:  Whats wrong with PA vot…..

  32. Phil says:

Speaking of the latest Democratic scandal (fyi for thor: having sex with underage children is a crime)

PORTLAND, Oregon — A confession by Portland’s first openly gay mayor that he lied about having sex with a teenager is dividing this famously progressive city, as well as its gay community.
Just three weeks after Sam Adams was sworn in, many gays are questioning whether he is the man they want as their trailblazer.

“Sam has been our guy forever, which makes this even harder,” said Marty Davis, publisher of the newspaper Just Out, which has called for his resignation. “It’s completely dividing and tearing our community right down the middle.”

Portland’s progressive reputation is based on its dedication to eco-friendly buildings, its large network of bike paths, an expanding mass transit system and the city’s welcoming attitude toward gays and lesbians, which was reflected in Adams’ easy victory in last year’s election.

Adams took office on Jan. 1, making Portland the largest U.S. city with an openly gay mayor. But the community’s image is taking a beating over the sex scandal.

It started earlier this week when the 45-year-old Adams admitted to an alternative newspaper, Willamette Week, that he lied during his election campaign when he denied having sex in 2005 with a teenage male who was a legislative intern.

The newspaper said it had evidence showing otherwise, although it never reported details. After being confronted about the relationship, Adams insisted he did not have sex with the young man until after he turned 18.

At a Tuesday news conference, Adams apologized for lying — and for asking the young man to lie — and left open the possibility that he could resign if doing so would be in the city’s best interests.

Since then, pressure has mounted on the DEMOCRAT to do just that.

Glad they actually acknowledged he was a Dem in this article. Granted it was in paragraph 8 and in the passive voice, but I suppose that’s progress. Now if a Republican mayor of Portland had done this, I’m guessing the actual headline would go something along these lines:

“Republican Scumbag Mayor (R, Republican) Has Sex With Underage Boy. Sarah Palin (R, Republican) is Dumb and Can’t Read. Wo0t!”

  33. Mikey NTH says:

If they need a prison to put the Guantanamo Guys in, I would suggest locating that prison in Michigan’s UP. Say, near Copper Harbor. Very isolated, lovely weather.

That’ll teach them to complain about being in prison on a West Indian island.

  34. Mikey NTH says:

Or Wake Island. I hear that is available.

  35. mike191 says:

Murtha’s sordid history of pork and corruption is well known. He is currently under investigation for a defense contractor and the HUGE amount of money appropriated to Kuchera Industries. This has no relevance to Sara Palin and /or others- only Mr. Murtha. If the investigation leads to an indictment and a conviction-only then will I be happy that this corrupt man is out of Washington.Did I mention his Party,no. Only my disgust for his betrayal of his compact with the American People. However, I share the view of many when it comes to “Mainstream Media” when reporting on these events.

  36. Techie says:

Chris Dodd, Charlie Rangel, William “Cold Cash” Jefferson, and John “Haditha” Murtha.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the most Ethical Congress EVAR! (Pelosi said so, so STFU, haters!!! BTW: zOMG Sarah Palin!!!!111!!!)

  37. SDN says:

Yeah, build a Supermax in Murtha’s district. And when he’s convicted, stick his wrinkled ass in the general population. See how much tolerance he gets.

  38. Bob Reed says:

    Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy…

Good ol’ John “Haditha” Murtha, the dispicable disparager of our dutiful Devil Dogs…

Just karmaic justice for what he tried to pin on those Marines…

And hopefully this will expose his personal retirement program funded by the taxpayers earmarks…

Never let an opportunity pass to remind folks what letter is behind his name…

Is that too partisan? Naaaaah; it patriotic!

  39. B Moe says:

Then there’s a city council woman in West Palm awaiting her five-year sentencing. They know she’s getting five-years because two others just got five-years.

They key words there are “awaiting sentencing”. Republicans tend to get tossed out of office and/or into jail for their transgressions, Democrats not so much.

  40. Techie says:

Members of Congress = city council member of West Palm Beach, FL?

    That’s nuance.

  41. Slartibartfast says:

At least he was a live boy

A live, old-enough-to-enlist “boy”, according to the NPR story. Eighteen is still teenaged, but we tend to treat people that age as adults, except where alcohol is concerned.

  42. Techie says:

Oh, it was “legal” for sure, but I’m sure the good citizens of Portland appreciate his efforts to lie to the press and convince the other guy to do likewise.

It’s actually an interesting case. If a 45 year old straight male politician (especially one with an -R after their name) lied about an fling/trist he’d had with a barely legal teenage girl, we’d here a lot of chatter about gender power disparities and how men in power just can’t control their urges to bed/deflower/control young impressionable women from certain quarters. I’m interested to hear their take on this situation.

  43. Slartibartfast says:

Oh, sure, there’s always the inappropriate-relationship-with-a-superior thing. I was just adjusting for accuracy.

  44. Patrick Carroll says:

I lived in Pittsburgh for a while when I was in the USAF, working on technology transfer from CMU. You know, setting the MilitaryIndustrialComplex stuff in place to support the Bushitler years.

You know, efficiently dealing death to those who would do us harm. Not that this is any longer necessary, in the years of The Light Worker, The One Who Has Been Promised Us.

Anyway, I suggest locating the next gulag camp in southwest Pittsburgh. North of Mount St. Clair, west of Mt. Lebanon, east of the airport. Those people know Islam, let me tell you, and not from the accepting point of view.

Apopos nothing, other than that Murtha is a bit of an oddity. Mostly has what he has through extensive bribery. Not fully representative of the local scene, etc.
