Wherein I Agree with Josh Marshall [Dan Collins]

It wouldn’t make any sense for people to claim that Wes Clark was “swiftboating” McCain’s war record, as that would be telling the truth about it, technically.

It’s not surprising that Josh would write of “DC Press Lords Lay Down Fire for McCain,” though, when I’d be equally accurate in stating that MSM editors just lay down for Obama. Prone.

UPDATE: So much for absolute moral authority. If he were victimized by his skin color, that would be a completely different thing.

Reupdate from Obama’s Independence, Mo., speech on patriotism:

The young preacher from Georgia, Martin Luther King, Jr., who led a movement to help America confront our tragic history of racial injustice and live up to the meaning of our creed – he was a patriot. The young soldier who first spoke about the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib – he is a patriot. Recognizing a wrong being committed in this country’s name; insisting that we deliver on the promise of our Constitution – these are the acts of patriots, men and women who are defending that which is best in America. And we should never forget that – especially when we disagree with them; especially when they make us uncomfortable with their words.

Rereupdate:

“Sadly, Sen. McCain was not available during those times, and I say that with all due respect to him,” said Rand Beers. “I think that the notion that the members of the Senate who were in the ground forces or who were ashore in Vietnam have a very different view of Vietnam and the cost that you described than John McCain does because he was in isolation essentially for many of those years and did not experience the turmoil here or the challenges that were involved for those of us who served in Vietnam during the Vietnam war.

Thomas Lipscomb reviews Kerry’s war record and what the “Swiftboating” was all about at . . . The HuffPo? (h/t Tom Maguire, who has related thoughts)

Dan – When you say prone, do you mean “head down ass up”, or, “lying on back with legs spread wide” ?

Any agreement with JoshuaMicahMarshall is accidental.

  2. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    Prone is face-down-ass-up.

    The other way is “supine”.

(starts humming that old 2LiveCrew song…..)

  3. Darleen says:

I just thought the O! campaign was shipping complimentary Monica kneepads to reporters and editors by the pallet.

    Doggie style!

  5. gabriel says:

I for one am tired of acknowledging the term “swiftboating” as if its some new “truth to power” statement of fact. Its total bullshit because most of the points that group brought up were legitimate, and no amount of media history rewriting will change that. By allowing them to turn that word into a weapon against us, we empower them.

  6. gabriel says:

And one more thing, why does the media insist on using that guy who was fired from running NATO of all things as their go-to-guy for all things military? Wes Clark would probably be fragged if he was running anything in Iraq. His military career is one full of shitty decisions and half assed management that eventually got him shitcanned from possibly one of the cushiest assignments one can get. Funny how you don’t see those pics of him and Ratko Mladic anymore. Once he became a Team Lefty Fucktard, all those nice things he said about Bush, Cheney, Rummy and Rice went right down the memory hole.

  7. McGehee says:

why does the media insist on using that guy who was fired from running NATO of all things as their go-to-guy for all things military?

Two reasons: he supports Teh Narrative™, and he always somehow seems to show up in their green room.

Seriously. They don’t know how he gets in, but he does. The traps, they do nothing.

  8. ProggressiveHero says:

You do realize how fuckin awesome Obama is don’t you guys? I mean this speech on patriotism was not only amazing by itself, but now he switched the narrative. Any criticism of Ayers, or Wright, he will simply say “I denounce attacks on my patriotism, just as I denounced the attacks on McCain’s military service and patriotism, let us get back to the issues.” So basically he gets to claim his associations with Wright and Ayers, who normal people find disgusting, as equivalent to vague attacks on McCain’s POW status. Also he elevates the attacks on McCain’s service by mentioning them in the public debate, as then the press will be “forced” to report what those attacks are.

    Fuckin brilliant.

  9. Pablo says:

Honestly, aside from being regularly cornholed, what makes John Aravosis a political pundit? It isn’t nice to ask the question, but it’s really a very good question.

  10. […] Dem talking points: McCain doesn’t understand the Vietnam war because he was locked up at the Hanoi Hilton instead of out fighting it. On a pure “trying to give the election away to the other […]

  11. Howard says:

Of course Obama wants to put an end to Patriotism as an issue, because Obama is the one who’s patriotism is in question! He conveniently condems questioning patiotism, but where was he when his hatchet men came up with General Betray Us??? Also, why isn’t Iraq, or Afganistan on Obama’s upcoming itinery? Obama knows he can’t compete with McCain on the issue of patriotism, so he’s trying to make it a non issue. Obama has no experience, except to listen to God Damn America for 20 years!

ProggZero, what a great sense of humor you have! He may be awesome, but only in the fact that he is a Scirocco in a very expensive, fancy suit.

He is Jimmuh Cartuh with a tan, except maybe not as equipped to handle the job. I have trouble trusting anyone who’s only appeal is to ignorance, and who changes his positions like a Mexican jumping bean.

“Lightworker” my ass! He’s a hack who will make an incredible mess of what remains of this country.

Yeah. I know. I must denounce myself here. Obediently, I do so….

And again. That was just so bad, I must denounce myself for a second time…

  17. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Aside from being the dumbest political gaffe since the elitist comments in SF, this Clark/Obama tag team match takes the “stuck on stupid” cake. First he uses a idotarian ass kisser as a surrogote to attack McCain in the one area hes basically bullet proof, then he goes forward to reach out to the flyover “hicks” with a speech on ass covering patriotism, focusing the spotlight on his lack of any military background. Yeh, really fucking brilliant.

    – In the mean time Bush signed the Iraq war funding bill today, totally ass fucking the Lefts dreamed of failure and surrender in Iraq, thereby giving Bush a 100% win in the war. Yet another major defeat for the Dems and the asshat Left. Thats todays real story, not the latest royal fuckup by camp Obama.

  18. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – And ProgHorn, I am a relocated “mid-west voter” ex buckeye. And I can tell you if you think todays dumb ass stunt put on by Clark and Obama was “brilliant” then McCain has nothing to worry about.

  19. I Hate Obama says:

Barack Hussien Obama is not the right guy for the job. He has no credentials and is a baby senator, not qualified to run America. His ideas and plans sound good and everything, but are unattainable and are just lies, his plan to just get in. He is living in an imaginary world and needs to wake up to the world around him. Don’t believe him. Barack Hussie nObama = 6 6 6 . No matter what he says he is a muslim. His father and stepfather are muslims and in the eyes of all muslims that makes him one. He is unpatriotic, from his stupid excuses to why he doesn’t wear a flag pendent to his crazy, black, racist, damning America preacher and mentor. He is the charming, charismatic, mesmorizing, speaker that the devil is. He wants to talk and negotiate with America’s enemies, to pull troops out, to let them reorganize and stregthen, and then eventually side with them. Obama’s real name is Mabus. Nostradamus talks of Obama, the third antichrist of middle eastern background, ‘The Black One’. He is the devil. He will be the next President of the United States. America is blinded by Obama’s image and is persuded by the media’s portrayal. The media positivly portrays Obama, but is always negative against McCain. Its sick. McCain’s views are the truth and the correct way to handle things in this time of war. Which is a neccassary war. McCain is realistic on the way to deal with America’s enemies. McCain’s experience in the Senate and as an Air Force Officer/Pilot and POW gives him exceptional qualifications to run a country that is being attacked, on a Biblical scale. McCain knows how to get this country under control; the economy, fuel prices, illegal immigration. America is clearly divided into two, McCain Americans and Obama Americans. The Obama Americans want change but don’t want to make the sacrifices to do so. They want low gas prices but down want to drill causing harm to the environment. They want a border security but don’t want a wall that may disrupt natural mirgation of wildlife. They want lower taxes and don’t want to support a war they think they know so much about and don’t see a wider picture of our purpose and responsibility as Americans to respond to their attacks and their inhumanity to their people in their own region. America needs to be strong to be able to defend it’s enemies. We need to stand together as one country and unite on our way of thinking or we aren’t going to stand. The muslims are set in their plans to destroy the west and Israel and for Islam to be the world religion. They burn Bibles and flags, dancing and chanting ‘Death To America’ daily. They get upset and cry when a Quran is treated the same way and want an apology for it. They get upset and cry when someone draws a cartoon of Mohammed when I see cartoons of Jesus helping Santa and boxing Satan on South Park and can laugh about it, but yet they want an apology. We want our apology. They aren’t going to stop. The way they think is backwards. They are ignorant in their views and only see their own way. We have to check them. They are the enemies of Israel and that makes them the enemies of God. This is a holy war that must be fought in the name of God. Obama is just going to cause more problems and just weaken our nation. He is a muslim. The muslims around the world support him and praise his name. Obama’s views are completly unrealistic and are just lies to brainwash the American people to follow and believe in him. ‘Change We Can Believe In’, he is the anti-christ. Just lies to get the vote. He is the devil and will be America’s next President. In 2012, around election time, 3.5 years into his rule we will see his true self and intentions. He will declare himself a world leader to be worshipped and embraced as a god. 2012 is the Chinese year of the Dragon, in which divine and other worldly events occur on year. Dec 21 2012 the earth completes a precession on its axis which will cause shift of poles and magnetic fields. Also the day when the sun rises and aligns with the center of our Milky Way Galaxy and passes into the 13th zodiac which is a man wrestling a snake, symbolizing a time of struggle with evil. The Mayans predicted a beginning of a new cycle of change. The four horsemen are riding now. The natural disasters, climate change, world hunger, oil crisis, and a holy war. These are the end times and Obama is the devil.

  40. BJTexs says:

IOt appears that Barack is taking a small page from the John Kerry, albioet with far less pompous faux outrage.

I’m tired of this kerfuffle about patriotism. So many have lost the essential understanding of the word by promoting their own edgy intellectualism. Patriotism is not dissent, or a person or an act. It is an ideal, a concept that allows an individual to criticize one’s government, lob snark at those who run it or want to run it while maintaining a core consistancy of devotion and love of the ideals of A, the Nationmerica. The Constitution, Bill of Rights and that whole recognition that this radical idea that all men are created equal and possess inalienable rights from the Creator exists in the very fabric of the nation. Hate your government and the toadies that run it but don’t go hatin’ the ideal. We are a nation run by humans with human failings. It is unpatriotic to “God Damn America” or burn her flag even as the very ideals strenuously protect your right to do just that.

Enough already with the patriotic scorecard. Wear the pin or not, dissent is not the highest form of patriotism. Love of country and the ideals for which it stands in spite of the collection of boobs who run it reflect the highest form of the patriot.

Boy, it sure feels good to get that off of my chest.

Oh yeah, just because John McCain had most of the bones in his body broken by real live Viet Namese, does not mean he has any real understanding of how they might behave in normal circumstances.

Did McCain ever see them with their families, worrying about high gas prices and feeding the kiddies? Hell no, he was laying around in solitary confinement making propaganda films for the enemy.

These people just need to shut the eff the up. They really do.

How many Communities did John McCain organize? How many? How many people did McCain teach how to blame their life’s failures and the products of their vices upon “society” and “the man?” How many?

  44. Lisa says:

We have gotten so ridiculous as to be a constant parody-o-matic of an electorate. We criticize our politicians for being neurotic equivocators, but we (and the media that is a total reflection of the masses) caper around like morons twisting any frank and honest statements into some unrecognizable freakery as we “pretend” to be “snarky” but are really building the Next Big Meme.

Probably the ONLY person who has not been a dick in this whole thing is Wesley Clark. He said “Hey man, this guy is a hero, but getting shot down does not qualify you to be commander in chief”. Of course, the 101st Chairborne sprung immediately into action, said McCain’s war record was being attacked. The media slobbered happily and repeated that lie. Barack Obama, that craven bastard, legitimized the whole fucking circus sideshow by denouncing Clark. Oy.

Whatever dimwitted asshole we get in November, we will deserve him…no, we deserve worse. Because we are just that stupid.

  45. Probably the ONLY person who has not been a dick in this whole thing is Wesley Clark.

um, he didn’t earn the nickname Weasely Clark for nothin’. he’s always a dick. I’ll see if I can dig up the old Mark Davis interview where Weasely got all pissy because Davis asked him some tough questions. it was entertaining.

  46. Lisa says:

Well he might be a dick usually, but he was not the original dick nor did he contribute anything dickish to this latest melee.

You will have to ring the “dick bell” for the following people:

    Barack Obama
    John McCain
Bob Schiffer (however you spell his dickname)
Cable news anchors and talking heads

  47. except that McCain has never claimed that his service qualifies him to be CiC. sure it’s part of his background, but he has other qualifications as well. Clark was a jerk to act like McCain has done otherwise.

  48. B Moe says:

John McCain did alot more than just get shot down. And Wesley Clark is a sniveling little back stabbing bitch. Calling him a dick is a complement.

  49. Alec Leamas says:

McCain’s outstanding physical courage is a virtue and an analog of his outstanding moral courage, the latter of which gives many conservatives fits from time to time.

The perfidious Clark and the rest leave out the Forrestal incident, and McCain’s insistence upon returning to combat duty as soon as possible. It is part of McCain’s legend.

I’ll assign significant weight to McCain’s above virtues as qualifications for the office of President and Commander-in-Chief, thank you.

Oh yeah, Obama plays basketball, I’ll weigh that too.

  50. Dan Collins says:

Heh, B Moe. I’d say it was “compliment,” but it’s funnier your way.

  51. Ric Locke says:

Umm, Lisa, the problem there is that Wesley Clark isn’t a dick.

I am roughly his contemporary. In my life I have met a large number of people who have served under or with Wesley Clark. I have not yet heard a single word of approval. The man toadies to superiors, wages continual knife-in-the-back fights with peers, and treats subordinates like dirt. He has twice the ego of George S. Patton and something like a quarter the ability, and when irritated in any way he goes off like a rocket, making John McCain’s famous temper look like Mother Teresa’s public persona. The only thing he is good at is carrying grudges.

    Clark isn’t a dick. He’s a clit.

    Regards,
    Ric

  52. Dan Collins says:

Boy, you sure hate Patton, Ric.

  53. RTO Trainer says:

“The media slobbered happily and repeated that lie.”

    Well, no.

First, it’s not a lie. Clark either is woefully ignorant of McCain’s history or deliberately omited it (either of which I count as “dickish”).

The media, however, has been remiss in not correcting the record. I’ll give Bob Schiefer some credit–he did bring up that McCain was commander of the largest Squadron in the US Navy, but lets Clark dismiss it as not having been a wartime unit (another dickish move). What’s also interesting is that the various commentators who have ostensibly reposted the transcript, omit the initial comments of Schiefer laying out the case that McCain is not untried and untested contrary to the General’s HuffPo hitpiece (yet a fourth dickish move).

General Clark, thus, is shown to be soooooo dickish, in fact, were someone to slap him they could be accused of “cockslapping.”

  54. The Lost Dog says:

Have you heard the Obama Song Lisa?

“Was he born an asshole, or did he work at it his whole life?

Either way,it worked our good, ’cause he’s an asshole tonight.

(With apolodies to the writer of the “I-95 Asshole Song)

  55. Lisa says:

Calling someone a clit is not an insult. The clit is unassuming, bashful, humble, and is exists only to give its owner a good time. The dick, on the other hand, while it can be loads of fun for all, can be a pain in the ass (literally and figuratively), can inspire delusion, and can be stunningly disappointing.

I would say that dick is ever so much more appropriate.

  56. ProggressiveHero says:

Lisa wouldn’t the most proud member of 101 chairborne be the commander of 1000 planes on bombing runs thru civilian territory? I mean they couldn’t even shoot back. He makes McCains bombing runs on innocent civilians in Vietnam look like a kid with a microscope killing a couple ants on a sunny day.

  57. lee says:

OK, this statement from Obama is true:

Martin Luther King, Jr., who led a movement to help America confront our tragic history of racial injustice and live up to the meaning of our creed – he was a patriot. The young soldier who first spoke about the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib – he is a patriot. Recognizing a wrong being committed in this country’s name; insisting that we deliver on the promise of our Constitution – these are the acts of patriots, men and women who are defending that which is best in America.

Where the slight of hand occurs, the subtle shift of focus, is moving the mirrors so it seems that those mentioned were defending Americans from US federal government policy. In fact, those patriots were defending the US Constitution from the bad actions of men. (And Women.)

Martin Luther King, Jr., who led a movement to help America confront our tragic history of racial injustice and live up to the meaning of our creed – he was a patriot.

There were men at the founding of the country that hadn’t given up the ‘until recently’ accepted practice of slavery, a practice at that time used by all races in all hemispheres for all of history even until their present.

The Constitution of the US however, declared all men equal, laying the foundation and opportunity, nay, even encouraging, as was a movement by British religious men of the day, the era when the practice was abolished.

The young soldier who first spoke about the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib – he is a patriot.

    Absa-fuchin-lutly.

The story is though; the Army discovered the bad actors in their anti-American(policy) performance, started investigation, notified the press(muli-orgasms for a year), charged the miscreants from top to bottom, and showed the world the US doesn’t condone those actions.

    Recognizing a wrong being committed in this country’s name;

    Clever phrasing.

See, both sides have to agree with the words, it’s just the anti-American side reflects the mirror image, that the bad behavior was the USA, not the evil intentions of individual citizens acting against Constitutional principals.

An honest mistake if you think the USA as a racist, imperialistic, bigoted, evil, bullying nation run by teh patriarchy deeply corrupted by wicked capitalism and greed.

  58. The Lost Dog says:

    Oh, and Lisa –

    “Comment by Lisa on 6/30 @ 7:55 pm #

Well he might be a dick usually, but he was not the original dick nor did he contribute anything dickish to this latest melee.”

No. Clark became an obvious dick when, during his short lived presidential campaign, he turned to his advisor (Press Secretary?) and said, in front of reporters: “what DO I think about Iraq?”

Not just an everyday dick. A really STUPID dick.

  59. RTO Trainer says:

Proggie, you’ve got a smack in the mouth comming to you some day. That’s what happens to liars.

  60. Lisa says:

But Clarke never acted like McCain said that. He was responding to the dick that was interviewing. It was in the context of the conversation they were having about who was more qualified. Clark goes on about how McCain has never done this or that. Then Bob Dickhead says, that Obama hasn’t either, and he has never been shot down over Vietnam and held hostage for five years. Then Clark says that that getting shot down does not qualify you for president.

Now, I know you all watched that interview and you know what he said and in what context he said it. So why are you contributing to the brainless meme that Clark just suddenly got a bug up his ass to “attack McCain’s record”. I KNOW this site and the people on it are better than that.

  61. Dan Collins says:

I’m sorry, Lisa. Was what Bob Dickhead said untrue?

  62. RTO Trainer says:

So you give a Clark a pass, because, just as he’s failed to do for years, Schiefer didn’t hold Clark’s feet to the fire on his answer? That’s not Schiefer being a dick, just being a consistently mediocre journalist.

  63. Dan Collins says:

I haven’t bothered to whack at old Wes, Lisa, but you have to wonder why, if he wasn’t out of line, Obama threw him under the bus.

    Change &ct.

  64. Lisa says:

Progg Hero: I never heard that McCain bombed innocent civilians. Look, my dad was in Vietnam. In spite of how horrible the stories were, most people went over there and did their duty without becoming Joeseph Goebbles. Really. How outdated is calling a Vietnam vet a baby killer. McCain deserves criticism for being an ignorant ass about various matters from the economy to Shiites and Sunnis. But please don’t try to resuscitate that lame assed Abbie Hoffman 60s bullshit about Vietnam vets being evil baby bayonetters.

  65. RTO Trainer says:

I remember a certain brainless former Governor of Texas who raved once that “Poor George” (the Elder) wasn’t all that–that he’d only managed to get shot down during WWII. That was classless then too.

  66. RTO Trainer says:

Lisa, really. I’ll just bust him in the chops should I ever meet and identify him. More satisfying than scolding him thosugh probably just as futile.

  67. The Lost Dog says:

Some’s good, some’s not, but don’t go looking at your “stuff” as any more magical and more “pacific” than mine.

    That was really hilarious. Honest!

I can be pretty crude, but right now I am biting my tongue ’til it BLEEDS! I just can’t bring myself to go there, no matter how much I want to!

You’ve GOT to be kidding me!

  68. Ric Locke says:

[The clit] exists only to give its owner a good time…

Precisely. The dick can be, and occasionally is, used to give both parties. The clit has no such utility. Wesley Clark, to the life.

    Regards,
    Ric

  69. Lisa says:

I am not discussing whether it was true. I am giving Clarks statement context. Period. Clark was responding to Bob Dickweed.

Not that it matters. It has been officially deemed an “attack on McCains record” and that is what it will always be. The meme is victorious. I have to admire the masterful manipulation and pwning that went down in the last 24 hours. Put the lie out – get outraged about it – demand action – rinse, repeat until someone apologizes or distances himself from the lie that has now become true. Laugh as the left shrieks in outrage.

Then the Kossacks, Glennies, and Marcottes get hold of some dumb shit like this and use the same tactics grind someone into the ground with it. Then laugh as the right shrieks in outrage…

    Jeebus Hussein Christ.

  70. Dan Collins says:

Okay, but what did Clark mean to say, Lisa?

  71. Lisa says:

Oh go ahead Lost Dog. Do tell about your unfortunate experiences with the clit…I am breathless with anticipation.

  72. Lisa says:

He meant exactly what he said. Which was that McCain was a hero, but that did not necessarily qualify him to be president.

(In response to Bob Cockboy’s statement. Which may or may not have been true.)

  73. Lisa says:

Oh, and Lost Dog, you seem a bit bitter and clingy about women’s sexy bits. We really need to address that.

    Night all!!

  74. Neo says:

After all that tripe about poor relations with other nations, the Democratic Congress finds that they are the problem ..

.. the Qatari minister criticised a move by US politicians to sue the Organization of the Oil Exporting Countries if the oil club did not pump an amount of oil that Washington sees sufficient.
“The Congress should look to increase exploration inside the United States,” Minister said. “It is strange to ask what I should produce. It’s an issue of sovereignty.”

  75. lee says:

So, Lisa, we should just let conversations like that conclude on an erroneous note? Allow the perception that Clark is other than a partisan hack, and there is nothing in MccCains record that is an asset to the presidency?

No…, that’s why WE are here, to set the record straight! ;P

  76. McGehee says:

I’ve been known to cling to women’s sexy bits. The bitter usually occurred later.

  77. Neo says:

It appears that Wes Clark is stuck to the bottom of the bus ..

There are many important issues in this Presidential election, clearly one of the most important issues is national security and keeping the American people safe. In my opinion, protecting the American people is the most important duty of our next President. I have made comments in the past about John McCain’s service and I want to reiterate them in order be crystal clear. As I have said before I honor John McCain’s service as a prisoner of war and a Vietnam Veteran. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in Armed Forces as a prisoner of war. I would never dishonor the service of someone who chose to wear the uniform for our nation.
John McCain is running his campaign on his experience and how his experience would benefit him and our nation as President. That experience shows courage and commitment to our country – but it doesn’t include executive experience wrestling with national policy or go-to-war decisions. And in this area his judgment has been flawed – he not only supported going into a war we didn’t have to fight in Iraq, but has time and again undervalued other, non-military elements of national power that must be used effectively to protect America But as an American and former military officer I will not back down if I believe someone doesn’t have sound judgment when it comes to our nation’s most critical issues.

  78. Alec Leamas says:

We still haven’t heard about a damn thing Obama has done other than to be black and allegedly articulate, and to have banged his first boss.

    Sunnis, Shiites – Arabs, Afghanis

At least McCain knows that the Iraqi Sunnis and Iraqi Shiites both speak Arabic, but that the Afghanis don’t.

  79. ProggressiveHero says:

Hasn’t the US military killed 600,000 civilians in Iraq? All due to bush’s failed policies and lies? bush and Wesley Clark should have a baby killing contest.

  80. happyfeet says:

ProggressiveHero person doesn’t really bring it does he? Big yawn monster is about to pounce on my head I’m afraid.

  81. ProggressiveHero says:

RTOTrainer do they even have RTO on MTOE’s anymore? Seriously, with the advent of Satphones and wireless they do not even have to use SINGARS anymore so whats the point? Basically you are training a 42L to be a coffee maker.

  82. Dan Collins says:

‘Oh Proggie!’cried Toad.’I’ve done so many wonderful things since I last saw you!’

  83. Lisa says:

#76: No and I don’t think you should just let claims go unchallenged. I think you are doing a great job discussing both of the candidates here (I suspect that my hanging out here inoculated me from the Obamamania plague – I support him, but not with the wild, unquestioning abandon that many of my peers have…). My point is to just acknowledge that this is pure campaign press-gamesmanship. I am not (or trying not to) have faux fits of outrage over it. Shit, in less than 24 hours, someone from Camp Obama will be having their own spell of vapors and hysteria about some manufactured bullshit. I am just acknowledging that this IS bullshit. Not saying it isn’t extremely effective bullshit. It is what it is.

Now I really am going to bed, as I have to get up in a 4 1/2 hours.

  84. RTO Trainer says:

It was an attack on McCain’s record.

    Some quotes:
“But he hasn’t held executive responsibility.”
“He hasn’t been there and ordered the bombs to fall.”

Both untrue. And he deliberately excludes or elides the facts that would say otherwise.

  85. RTO Trainer says:

“Hasn’t the US military killed 600,000 civilians in Iraq?”

    No.

  86. Neo says:

This whole thing is just not going over well with the VFW crowd, who now have their political guns trained on Obama.

Wes Clark is showing once again that he doesn’t know when to stop, like Pristina, when he risked World War III.

Meanwhile, even those who thought that McCain wasn’t the best choice for Republican nominee have been galvanized into supporting McCain.

  87. RTO Trainer says:

There’s no such thing as a 42L. Or SINGARS.

  88. RTO Trainer says:

I’m not a fan of the politics of outrage either, Lisa, but it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if every former-POW in the country wasn’t a bit put out by this.

Then again, this is not a conversation that Obama wants to have. In fact it should be the last conversation he wants to have as he has nothing on his side of the ledger that remotely balances what McCain brings. Clark’s first allegiance may still be to Hillary.

  89. Neo says:

Obama’s biggest executive responsibility seems to have fallen off his resume.
It the time he spent running half of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a failed attempt at education reform in Chicago. The other half was run by his “neighbor” William Ayers.

  90. lee says:

Well, I don’t see it as BS Lisa. This particular American, and I believe I’m one of many, thinks patriotism is arguably the ONLY requirement for POTUS, beyond those specified in the Constitution. Obama does provoke a patriotism question, and this was a preemptive(since no one else has been working that from a campaign point of view) effort to contain collateral damage.

Some one needs to take away his shovel.

  91. geoffb says:

“Clark’s first allegiance may still be to Hillary.”

I think that there are more than a few Hillary moles in Obama’s organization. He is being setup for a fall. Hillary is going to be Lautenberg to Obama’s Torricelli.

  92. lee says:

Geoffb, I doubt it. They WILL be absorbed by the collective, or ejected to Leiberman Land.

Kind of like we conservative republicans.

  93. geoffb says:

    “I am not a number, I’m a free man” Number-6

  94. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Lisa – Clark is an unsufferable five-star ass-kisser. In this case he was picking fly-shit from the pepper, intentionally playing the “you can minimize anything if you just word it right”. He openly accused McCain of running on his war record, as well as using it to claim the presidency, neither one of which is true. Then CandyMan pops up with a disclaimer/denouncement aimed at shutting down the debate over “patriotism”. Since McCain has stuck scrupiosuly at NOT using said advantage, guess who was doing what, and up to what in this little stage play. I know you can do it.

    – Also you should weight Finkle-Clarks comments in view of the fact that two months ago when Hillery’s anus was his favorite place to park his nose he was arguing that her “First Lady” experiences gave her the executive edge over Obama. You can’t make that sort of perfidy up.

    A) A South Chicago bag man that gets put up against the wall from time to time because he delivered the “prize” to the wrong address and pissed off the precinct boss.

    B) A Navy Jet fighter pilot that got shot down over enemy territory and spent 5 years in the Hanoi Hilton being tortured and ended up commanding the largest squadron in the Navy.

    C) A likeness of Elvis on black velvet, in an artificial gold plastic frame.

    D) Black Helicopters.

    E) Clits that say “Nih”.

    – One of these things is not the same.

  95. lee says:

You know what I think BBH? I think Lisa is devoting entirely too much time to the real world, and not giving PW the due diligence that is her “reasonable” service.

    UNPATRIOTIC!!!

  96. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Lisa’s good people lee, and shes right that this is campaign boondogery, I was really just trying to put it all in clear plain English.

    – That and Clark the slub should be shunned by every right thinking American in the country. Hes done more for the enemy than sKerry, and that in itself is scary.

    – Also, when the backstage jackoffs in either camp play the Kings new clothes, they need to be called on it, swiftly and surely without mercy, otherwise it just encourages the twits.

    – I concure on the idea that Clark may have been sticking it to Obama on Hillery’s behalf. So the patriotic speech thing may have been his camp trying to snatch any sort of lemonade out of lemons.

I still don’t think shes let go of the idea of the big enchilada, and she won’t until they have to pry it from her cold dead political fingers.

  97. lee says:

Well, even if it is campaign boondoggery, I still think it is important to examine a Presidential candidate, especially one that is a virtual unknown, even now, like Obama is. McCain has a lifelong public record, and the American Public has formed their opinion of him long before now. Obama is a mystery, and all the clues are damning.

  98. lee says:

For fun, I’ve been imagining Hilliary showing up at the convention challenging the delegates to vote for the newly formed Hillary/Leiberman ticket.

  99. lee says:

    Think race riots, if confirmed.

  100. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – The plan for the Obama camp is clear. Try to get through the entire campaign cycle without actually having the candidate “defined” in any meaningful way, since Socialism is the absolute pits in the political free market. (hard to find places to hide 100 million bodies, even for the SecProggs). Obama’s job is “teh smooth”, bloviating vacuous long winded powerful speeches that essentially say nothing and commit him to so many different sides of every issue the electorate is left entertained and politically stupified.

    – Since he has a kindly old duffer as his opponent, one that sounds like hes reading bed time stories to his grandchildren in every speech, the Left thinks they stand a good chance of pulling it off.

    – We shall see.

  101. lee says:

without actually having the candidate “defined” in any meaningful way,

Which is why the fighter pilot should be taking tactical advantage of the opening Obama presented by bringing up Patriotism.

What you may call campaign dramatics, I call a target rich environment in the competition for the Office.

No one is expecting a tea party, are they?

  102. lee says:

Unfortunately, I think McCain is too afraid of enemy missiles to mount an effective attack.

  103. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Well, at the risk of “straining the metaphor”, McOldDuffer had better start unzipping his missile silo, or hes going to end up this January being congratulated for running a strong effective losing campaign.

  104. lee says:

Well, I think the metaphor was creaking at “unzipping”, but it held…

Just like Obama, McCain has a rep for throwing embarrassments under the bus(who was that guy, kept saying Obamas full name?). I think this is going to be a battle of the kittens.

Not even war kittens, just kittens.

  105. Matt, Esq. says:

has anyone denounced the clit. If not, they should do so. Confusing bugger, that clit.

  106. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Clits are pretty simple, and simply pretty. As alGore would say: “There are three kinds of clits in the world, those that like it hard, and those that like it tender. Figure out which way they roll, and they’ll iron your shirts for life.”

    – As far as this campaign is concerned, we seem to be bouncing back and forth between missiles and pussies, and with that we’ve probably exceeded our allocation of strained metaphors for the week.

  107. Lisa says:

I love you guys. But you seriously need an afternoon with Nina Hartley and her Giant Ladybits Diagram. Or if that doesn’t work, maybe this lady can help you.

  108. McGehee says:

Lisa, running the remote for the DVD player is why guys can text with one thumb but girls need to use both.

  109. […] and Dan at Protein Wisdom are covering the flap well, but I want to expand on a few […]
