The fact that Sen. Barack Obama has surfaced in the federal corrupton case against his longtime campaign fund-raiser, Tony Rezko, may turn out to be a small deal by itself.
Nevertheless, it may play into one of Sen. Hillary Clinton’s strategies for fending off Obama’s insurgent campaign:
On Friday night there was another attack, a radio ad from the Clinton campaign in which basketball star and Clinton friend Earvin “Magic” Johnson calls Obama a “rookie.”
She will likely seek to play on the notion that the fresh face may have a skeleton in the closet we may not know about yet. In contrast, Clinton may have more skeletons than the averge graveyard, but the remains have already been identified.
How many liberal media outlets cover Democrat corruption though? NPR sure doesn’t. I could see how you might could force them to in the general but in the primary I think they’re gonna stick with the all the Democratic candidates are so good it’s hard to choose meme.
I think HRC’s attack on Obama would be that you don’t want to have buyer’s remorse for the general election.
That would be some good irony there.
Your mind isn’t evil enough to understand Hillary, Karl.
Few on the D side are willing to switch horses, and those who are willing would only move from Hillary or Edwards to Obama. Hillary knows this. D voters will (almost) all roll over and obey when the general comes, but until then, the race has been purified — [ahem] — and made solely about who they are. You can accurately predict who any non-black Democrat’s voting for just by ticking off the top two or three lines on a demographic survey. Making sure that that’s so, and that nothing can interfere with it, was the campaign decision that made Hillary safe. And this is only more of the same.
And she is safe. The numbers are with her. She’ll cruise on only occasional reminders to her people, like this Magic quote — the point of which isn’t what he says, or even the ad’s contextualization of it, but the sound of Magic’s famously inarticulate voice, reminding her voters who Obama (sort of) is.
Shit’s dirty. It’s probably better you don’t get it.
It’s really not that you can’t see
The forest from the trees
You just never been out in the woods alone
The Clintons still scare a lot of people in the media. Their teflon coating may be getting thin, but their vindictiveness has not waned.
