Dems 2008: Scary Larry is an Agent of Rove [Karl]

The Left-on-Left attacks continue.

Author Jane Smiley reads Lawrence O’Donnell’s HuffPo post calling John Edwards a “loser” and is not pleased:

I am fairly sure in my own mind that Karl Rove paid him to write that post.

Indeed, she thought she would discover that O’Donnell was a Republican, which she does not even realize is hilarious, given his reputation as a shrieking moonbat.  Then again, Smiley is not known for nuance herself.

Update:  Welcome, Corner-ites, including Mark Steyn!  Feel free to poke around the place.  As Mr. Steyn also mentioned Erica Jong, I’ll note PW has a post on her, too.

“Hillary Clinton aroused incredible antagonism in the 1990s. The antagonism she aroused was not rational, but then, neither is voting.”

Pretty much says it all, huh?

  2. MarkJ says:

If O’Donnell was really smart he’d tell Smiley, “Yeah, that’s right baby. I’m Karl Rove’s Number One Bitch and I likes it, I tells ya, I LIKES IT!”

The mess resulting from Jane Smiley’s head would do undoubtedly do justice to a “Gallagher” show.

  3. Topsecretk9 says:

Oh harumph…Larry’s just another pink man!

  4. stace says:

O’Donnell is a racist, a sexist, and a religious bigot.

Smiley is a shrieking, paranoid hysteric.

This post on racism from their co-Huffpoer is literally beyond parody.

Rove’s race-baiting isn’t subtle, but here’s a translation for cloistered liberals who have “never met a racist”: When he says Obama is “lazy” (what he means to say is “shiftless”), he’s reinforcing a racist stereotype. When he claims that Obama “bluffs” and makes “misstatements” or “exaggerations,” he’s appealing to bigots who believe black people are inherently dishonest.

Here’s a classic code-talker sentence: “His trash talking was an unattractive carryover from his days playing pickup basketball at Harvard, and capped a mediocre night.” “Trash talking” is perceived by white racists as both a black slang phrase and a common form of minority behavior, while whites have seen African Americans play “pickup basketball” in a thousand ghetto movies. (And bonus points to Karl for “cap,” which is hip-hop slang for shooting people. Is he that smart? We report, you decide.)

When Rove says Obama offers “soaring” and “inspirational” rhetoric that isn’t “filling or “sustaining” or “substantive,” he’s playing on the white stereotype of blacks as superficial “jive talkers.” Rove adds (without “substantiation”) that “Clinton won the beer drinkers, Mr. Obama the white wine crowd.” The word that Rove is subliminally reinforcing here is “uppity.”

  5. BJTexs says:

There is so much partisan screaming moronity in both of those pieces:

    O’Donnell the “practical European Socialist.”

If John Edwards stays in the race, he might, in the end, become nothing other than the Southern white man who stood in the way of the black man.

Identity politics and internicene warfare at its finest.

Smiley trumps him on frothing idiocy:

O’Donnell attacks the only candidate in the race with explicitly progressive policy positions, and the only candidate in the race who hasn’t accepted corporate money,

Hedge fund managers were heard wailing. Aaaaaaannnnnd:

It was clear from the op-ed that Rove wrote a few weeks ago that the Republicans, whose own candidates run the gamut from the ridiculous (Fred Thompson) to the psychopathic (Rudolph Giuliani) and the theocratic (Huckabee) have already begun to see finagling the Democratic primary race as their only chance.

Proving once again that no matter how much she generalizes Democratic candidates she can dismiss an entire Republican field with a wave of her and and provacative, single word descriptions with no background.

Yet these people wish to be taken seriously. Right.

This is more amusing than a Springer episode.

  6. BJTexs says:

Wave of her hand you dirty minded people, you!

  7. Drider says:

I dont think Ms.Smiley has done her “spadework” if her conclusions lead her to believe tha crazy Larry is a Republican hnchman.

  8. Merovign says:

It constantly amazes me that people who can interpret “capped a mediocre night” as mocking, racist code words can not only tie their shoes, but actually function in a meaningful enough way to get around to publishing rambling screeds.

A hint for the confused: “capping the night” means putting an end to the festivities, in the manner of putting your cap on before you go outside on the way home.

If you go from “capping the night” to “popping a cap in that uppity swarthily-complected person,” you are in fact suffering from mental illness.

  9. Darleen says:

this stuff doesn’t surprise me … on another blog I’ve pointed out that the Hillary! vs Barry fight is basically a sexism v racism slurfest, *I* attacked as “YOU people” are at fault because I/we are the ones who talk about race/sex “all the time.”

Yep. It’s all us Bu$HitlerHaliburtonNeoConZionistRethuglicans who are forcing, FORCING I tell you, the saintly Dems to engage in identity politics.

    heh.

  10. Tony LaVanway says:

Time for the Second Civil War, yet?

Nah. War is politics by other means. So far, it’s staying politics.
