Dems 2008: Fear of Thinking [Karl]

Erica Jong weighs in on the Democratic presidential campaign — at least that seems to be the subject of her latest wallow in the trough of identity politics.  A representative sentence:

I am so sick of hearing that another pink man has dropped his children out a window, off a bridge or killed his pregnant wife or killed his unpregnant wife because he was infatuated with another pregnant woman…

It is a piece filled with keen insight, as is the latest analysis of the campaign by Roseanne Barr.

I got through three sentences of Jong’s piece. She should stick to soft-core porn.

  2. Scape-goat Trainee says:

Seems like the typical insightful comment we’ve come to expect from the Left to me.
I predict she’s looking for a position in Hillary’s cabinet, and just wanted to make sure there’s no doubt in Madame President’s mind she hates the Y Chromosome enough to thrive in it.

  3. alppuccino says:

A man, pink or yellow, throws his young children off of a bridge and this unkempt snatch sees fit to use that as a campaign slogan?

A couple of these young children were male. So he get points for that, doesn’t he?

I’d punch this Jong loss. For equality.

Ditto. Actually, all these old hags trying to be relevant again is getting kinda sad.

  5. kelly says:

Is Carrie Nation posting over there, too? Amelia Earhart?

  6. Pablo says:

    CHANGE!!!!

  7. Jeff aka Alcyoneus says:

I am so tired of seeing pink vaginas take the leading role in intellectual affairs and rationalizing it as “fighting patriarchy.” I tired of pink vaginas telling dicks (of all colors) what to do with their heads which connect with their brains if you didn’t notice. I am so tired of pink vaginas telling us we should either run from conflict or “just chat it out.” I am so tired of pink vaginas shirking their duty to protect the country while thwarting competition that would make schools better. I am so tired of pink vaginas with their emasculated husbands, nodding like so many flaccid dicks in time with the rhythmical contractions of gynocentric philosophy.

Vaginas have done enough damage. Lets get a real dick this time around.

I wonder how she feels about a black woman killing 4 of her kids. Or a brownish Muslim killing his two daughters?

  9. Techie says:

    Molly Hatchet?

  10. Alec Leamas says:

Y’all don’t get it. Mizz Jong’s wordvomit made me grin ear to ear.

You see, they’re overconfident. They think that they can’t lose – they think that the country really wants THEM. And so, hither and tither they scurry out from their caves and crevices and show themselves.

Remember, THIS WOMAN, and those like her, is the audience to whom the Democratic candidate must appeal. They will, because they must. And in so doing, it will scuttle their inevitability.

So please, please, amplify Mizz Jong. Say it sistah!

  11. Alec Leamas says:

Also, edit to add: has anyone ever noticed that women who most often complain of men interfering with the affairs of womb are those in whose womb men have the least interest?

  12. kelly says:

    Thin Lizzy?

  13. Tim P says:

“I am not stupid. [oh yes you are and you just proved it] I know all generalizations are false. [Here’s a true one, you’re a vapid irrelevant dried up old douch bag] I know there are bad mothers, bad women, bad sisters, bad aunts, and bad females of every stripe. Oh, and bad wirters too!] But I have seen enough men in high office to last a lifetime. [get used to it sister, it’s not going to change much in what’s left of your trivial existence] Let’s give women a chance! [Gee, ok!! Just not this woman.]

    Great title Karl!

  14. kelly says:

    Talk about your zipless fuck.

  15. Karl says:

    Clearly not Thin Lizzy:

And that time over at Johnny’s place
Well this chick got up and she slapped Johnny’s face
Man we just fell about the place
If that chick don’t want to know, forget her!

Molly “Flirtin’ with Disaster” Hatchet? Possibly.

  16. Pablo says:

I’m thinking Blackfoot. Or maybe .38 Special, though I don’t know why.

  17. Alec Leamas says:

Something tells me that we must refresh the PW lexicon:

crone – (krōn) n. An ugly, withered old woman; a hag.

[Middle English, from Old North French carogne, carrion, cantankerous woman, from Vulgar Latin *carōnia, carrion, from Latin carō, carn-, flesh; see sker-1 in Indo-European roots.]

  18. Andy says:

I liked the Fox News blurb on Halle Berry. Being a member of the oppressive patriarchy, I don’t think I’d mind helping her out with her goal of always being pregnant.

  19. JohnAnnArbor says:

Gad, how boring. Jong just wrote that to get a few more credits at the lefty “in”-crowd cafe.

  20. Squid says:

Thank you, kelly. You’ve put the perfect punctuation mark on my week.

  21. kelly says:

No prob, squid. Uh…how exactly did I accomplish this feat?

  22. McGehee says:

And so, hither and tither they scurry out from their caves and crevices and show themselves.

Drunken strip bar patron: “Put it back on! PUT IT BACK ON!!!”

  23. Mark V Wilson says:

Thin Lizzy – The Boys are Back (in Town).

  24. cynn says:

This is a really vile display. Yes, Jong’s “pink man” conceit is silly and her rhetorical style is as cloying as Camille Paglia’s is smug. But to attack someone as some uppity cackling crone, a dessicated and disembodied vagina that serves as the justification that women should be disenfranchised (’cause of the cooze) is just puky. Says more about the trembling machotariat than any backhanded slapdown of the Hillary weepfest. Pile on the walker-wieldin’ womyn! They don’t get up when you shove ’em down!

  25. Karl says:

    cynn,

I’m not a big fan of that type of comment either. I am not surprised, however, given the degree to which Erica Jong’s rep is based on sex.

Also, Jong’s post displays more than a silly conceit. It is drenched in a virulent reverse-sexism she cannot escape, even after she admits the point about individuals. Which might be another reason for the tone of a few of the responses.

  26. cynn says:

Karl: I had really hoped this election would not devolve into a gender or racial circus, but that the candidates might be judged on their merits. Bitterly disappointed, as usual.

  27. B Moe says:

“I had really hoped this election would not devolve into a gender or racial circus, but that the candidates might be judged on their merits.”

Obama really has no merits yet, only potential. That is a big selling point to the progressive mindset, but doesn’t leave the Clinton Machine much to attack, unfortunately. Hillary trying to portray herself as experienced only points out the deficiencies in that department of both of them. If the Clintons are going to attack, they pretty much have to make it racial. It is going to get a lot uglier, I believe.

  28. cynn says:

It can’t get uglier than this thread. Nowhere in your comment do you refer to positions, only attack strategies. Just like this malignant thread. It’s all about destruction, the hell with enlightenment.

  29. cynn says:

Karl, please rescue and elevate this thread since you guys pump out crap like a firehose and drive things off the main page.

  30. Rob Crawford says:

It can’t get uglier than this thread.

Really? What about the original article? Is there anything uglier than “I am so sick of hearing that another pink man has dropped his children out a window, off a bridge or killed his pregnant wife or killed his unpregnant wife because he was infatuated with another pregnant woman…”?

  31. cynn says:

you don’t get it; You’re conveniently reacting.

  32. RTO Trainer says:

Sometimes a genuinely enlightened view will ead you to a recognition that there are things which must be destroyed.

You’ll have a hard time understanding that. One key is that “enlightenment” means neither Liberal nor doormat. In addition, very little here means what you have interpreted it to mean. In particular your statements on “disenfranchising” and “dstruction” are examples of overreacting and probably wishful thinking–makes it easier for you to distinguish yourself from us and thus to maintian your disdain.

  33. cynn says:

That’s horrific. I’ll let it go.

  34. McGehee says:

    the trembling machotariat

That’s got “classic band name” written all over it.

  35. tachyonshuggy says:

I am not stupid. I know all generalizations are false..

I’ve read this several times and it gets better each time. I now think the whole piece is a windup.

    Gotta be.

  36. RTO Trainer says:

    I’ll let it go.

Easier than letting your assumptions be challenged, I guess.

  37. Alec Leamas says:

“I am not stupid. I know all generalizations are false..

I’ve read this several times and it gets better each time. I now think the whole piece is a windup.

    Gotta be.”

Yeah, that one leaps off the page and says to me: “I took introduction to feminist theory instead of Philosophy 101, and all I got was this lousy career where everyone pretends I have something of moment to say.”

My even more cynical (hehe) view is that the “all generalizations are false” escape hatch is there just in case she has to vote for a pink man named Edwards . . .

  38. daleyrocks says:

Hit the bottle harder Cynn, you’re nicer when you’re loaded.

  39. Jeff aka Alcyoneus says:

Was Cynn upset about my pink vaginas? Tell me why.

  40. B Moe says:

“Nowhere in your comment do you refer to positions, only attack strategies.”

Because that is all I see. Stop being a complete contrarian and magnify some positions, I would much prefer to attack those.

  41. alppuccino says:

    http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/e/erica_jong.html

You’re right cynn. Attacking Erica Jong after reading her Brainy Quotes is like attacking deep fried Twinkies for making people fat.

Or to put it more Jongy:

Everyone who has gotten ahead by giving head has to, in the dark corners of their tiny mind, know they suck.

  42. ushie says:

God DAMN it, cynn, Jong has proved, throughout YEARS of sputtering idiotic prose, that she had nothing to say after “Fear of Flying.” That stupid useless woman keeps trying to be relevant, but instead keeps proving that her 15 minutes were up 30 years ago. Why NOT bitch about her self-evident hubris???

  43. Alec Leamas says:

That “pink man” who threw his kids into the river? Yeah, his name is . . . Lam Long.

    But thanks anyway . . .

  44. […] Feel free to poke around the place.  As Mr. Steyn also mentioned Erica Jong, I’ll note PW has a post on her, too. Posted by Karl @ 7:57 pm | Trackback Share […]
