NYC, Rodeo Bar, New Year’s 2008
So, Mary and I found people willing to take Brendan hereabouts, dropped Aidan with Ed and Meredith in Berkeley Heights, NJ, whose son Parker also suffers from COS, dropped Mairead at old friends in Easton, PA and drove to Wayne, NJ, where Mike had found us lodging with old friends.  Joe and Cheryl have a great place with vintage . . . well, just about everything.  Vintage range, vintage fridge, Danish modern furniture, Sputnik chandeliers, etc, etc.  Beautiful place, nice people, house preserving with loving calculation as if in amber the ambience of avant-garde ‘58.
Mike and his band showed up shortly thereafter, and he shortly went to crash before the show.  I got to meet some of the band and their wives, Mark & Chips and his wife, Sherry.  Had a few beers, they all got on their rockabilly rags and we headed into NYC.
There was a little bit of a delay, due to a sound guy not showing up on time.  Another band, from Pittsburgh (home of Liz Stephans and . . . Mark whatever), Highway 13, opened, played for about an hour.  Good stuff. I got a bunch of video, but I’m having trouble getting it posted on YouTube.  Probably a lot of folks trying to dump a lot of video there, right now.  But for the moment you can go to http://youtube.com/watch?v=B0WWnA3su_U and have a taste.  Great show.  Really pretty intense the way that it’s (potentially and in some cases actually) a complete aesthetic/ethos/lifestyle.  Mike got to reconnect with some folks that he had known from NYC for a long time, and his mom-in-law showed up, which was very cool.  I’ll let you know when I manage to get a bit more up. I’ve also got some hot dog-on-cat action to put up, between Joe & Cheryl’s dog, Desi, and cat, Savannah. So, something to look forward to.
I think it’s really important, once in a while, to meet internet friends in meatspace.  Maybe Jeff and JD can connect and get us some plans.   Anyway, hope you all had a great New Year’s Eve and here’s to a great New Year.  I see Karl and others have been doing a bang-up job.  What did I miss?ÂÂ

Happy New Year! I wanna say Happy New Year! to Jeff, too. I can’t think of anything you missed really. It’s been kind of quiet except for JHoward coming out of the closet. That was kind of a shock.

Where does one get a snub-nosed frickin’ laser beam?

Oh. Also you missed how Serr8d posted this in the Pub yesterday and it was totally validated by events today and that’s kind of cool when that happens.

You missed an ointment that makes women CRAZY HOT!
Comment by serr8d on 1/3 @ 6:14 am #
That ointment won’t work in Pittsburgh, Dan.
Because of the rust/i>!
