Joy! Because if anything should be clear to us it is how keenly concerned with our interests, rather than their own, are, say, Belgium or Iran. From the WSJ: President-elect Barack Obama’s foreign policy will focus on wooing longstanding U.S. adversaries while rebuilding alliances in Europe strained during the nearly eight years of George W. Bush’s presidency. Mr. Obama and his advisers are studying ways to engage Iran and Syria,
“Unity is overrated”
David Harsanyi, Denver Post: Winning elections is one thing; governing is quite another. It is impossible to deny that Obama ran one of sharpest, most diligent and exhilarating campaigns in modern American history or, for that matter, that the liberal wing of the Democratic Party has won a resounding mandate to run the country. That only means we need a robust and principled opposition. My children are continually lectured by
Update on YouTube issue: with associated questions
I heard back from the youtube people, by way of Ronald Coleman, and the problem, as youtube describes it, is thus: they concluded that I was somehow “gaming the system” — that massive traffic to videos was coming from relatively few IP addresses. Does anyone know how this might be done? Would a link to a video from this site produce such an effect. Because as any of you who
On nobility
Patterico: Good men do bad things, and in the pursuit of ambition, they almost always do. Barack Obama is not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination. What’s more, I think he will damage this country with bad policies. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. Inevitably, he is going to take actions that I think are disastrous, and somebody will come back and say: “Hey, Patterico! I thought you said
“America can change. Our union can be perfected.â€Â
Is it just me, or is that like the perfect opening line for the movie version of Liberal Fascism?
The morning after pill
From alppuccino, presented without commentary: At 10:40, President Bush will keep his streak alive by telling everyone how much he loves America. Just as he always has. And he’ll show everyone how much he loves America by preparing Obama as best he can for the next 4 years. He’ll do everything in his power to impart to President-elect Obama the seriousness of national security. He’ll do it with dignity and
Kondracke Calls it for Obama! [updated]
On Hume’s show. Early, sure. But how can anybody doubt Mort? Socialism is on the move, people. Embrace the volk! **** update: The end is near. Americans have chosen socialism. Or, more precisely, Americans have been carefully trained, over a number of years, to chose a candidate based on the most superficial of features (age, appearance), and for the most contrived of reasons (the campaign is “historic”; the candidate represents
Youth vote?
What youth vote? For what it’s worth, in the Hispanic neighborhood where I voted this morning, I didn’t see anyone under 35-40. Maybe Obama, by re-embracing late-60s New Leftism, underestimated how seriously his would-be supporters might internalize the Rubinesque rallying cry, “never trust anyone over thirty.” Oops.
Orlando Bloom wants you to vote for Change
And by “you,” presumably he means either geeky twenty-somethings who like to dress in pirate garb, or gay boys. Didn’t we once fight a Revolution so that we didn’t have to listen to assholes like this? Somebody needs to push past his security entourage and dump Mr Bloom’s tea into his giant swimming pool. h/t MKH
