Intarwebs Never Forget [Dan Collins]

Rick Herrick at the TPM Cafe (not to be confused with Ric Caric):

We love the troops… until they start saying things we don’t like. Summary: the Army claims Beauchamp’s article was false and he’s admitted that to them. But the Army won’t provide any proof that his article was false and the Army won’t provide Beauchamp: he’s been held incommunicado since the Army’s “investigation” began.

What is really going on here? I mean, the article that Beauchamp wrote was probably mildly embarrassing to the Army, but not that bad. It certainly pales in comparison to the shame of Abu Ghraib and Haditha. So why risk so much more bad publicity by essentially imprisoning an active duty Iraq War veteran? This is what really puzzles me about this situation.

So does anyone have any theories as to why the Army is being so hard-case about this? Because I got nothing. I do think that people who are concerned about this should do as much as possible to raise the visibility of this situation. If the Army thinks that the way to avoid embarrassment is to put people on lockdown, let’s have putting people on lockdown become a source of embarrassment for them!

Malkin:

Contrary to The New Republic’s claim that fabulist Scott Thomas Beauchamp is forbidden by the military from contacting the magazine or any other media or anyone else in the outside world, Blackfive blogger Laughing Wolf, embedded in Iraq, met face-to-face with him. LW writes that “he is not being held incommunicado in an undisclosed location with Dick Cheney.”

I’m sure his apology will be as articulate and heartfelt as Marcotte’s was over the Duke non-Rape Case.

Yeah, it’s a real mystery why he’s available to a select few for discussions. Kinda’ like when the WingNut Nation Bloggers were invited for a chat at the WH. Truly ‘friendly fire’ for those within the circle of trust.

  2. Jeffersonian says:

Cleo’s a trifle bitter this fine morning. Has Comrade Fidel taken a turn for the worse?

  3. Rob Crawford says:

Yeah, it’s a real mystery why he’s available to a select few for discussions.

Wow, that’s quite an assertion you’ve made there. Care to provide any evidence?

What’s your position on square cartridges?

  4. Dan Collins says:

I don’t know. But since Scott’s been online at Facebook and all, I wonder why he hasn’t taken the opportunity to email his buds at TNR.

  5. Semanticleo says:

“Wow, that’s quite an assertion you’ve made there.”

    And……………your counterpoint?

  6. These people are so freakin’ clueless about how the military works, it’s sad. “We CARE about you! but not enough to learn about your organization” I like how Herrick calls Beauchamp an “Iraq War veteran” uh, “soldier” didn’t have enough pathos?

  7. Ted Nugent's Soul Patch says:

    “And……………your counterpoint?”

Why bother making a counterpoint to such an intellectually lazy comment?

  8. Jeffersonian says:

But since Scott’s been online at Facebook and all, I wonder why he hasn’t taken the opportunity to email his buds at TNR.

You’d think his blushing bride’d be able to relay a coded message, at minimum. To busy pounding out her résumé, maybe?

    From Blackfive:

Daily Kos just hating openly on soldiers now
    Posted By Uncle Jimbo
WOW! I just read one of the sorriest, and I mean that both in the low character and poor execution meanings, hit pieces I have ever read (h/t LGF) . Some pissant has decided that Pete Hegseth of Vets for Freedom is the anti-christ and has cobbled together a classic conspiracist take on Pete and his evil handlers. This clown even decides it’s worth playing the phony soldiers card, I mean now this has progressed from a lie about what Rush said, to an accepted fake but accurate urban myth, to just a smear against a vet who has honorably served.

Remember back when the bastards at least lied about supporting the troops. We knew it was horse shite, but at least they had the decency to know they were wrong for hating the military. Now the facade has been abandoned and the hate that was there all along is out front for everyone to see. The left is working itself into a frenzy as the true believers are not being satisfied. They are not getting the defeat they voted for; they are not getting any impeachments; they are not getting a cut and run; they are having to listen to that lying traitor Betrayus; and they have had enough of having to talk nice about those baby-killing bastards.

They actually caught a clue in shifting fire to Blackwater and were scoring some points, but really what is the difference between a contractor and a PFC slaughtering Iraqis for sport in the end right? A jack-booted Nazi thug is a jack-booted Nazi thug and they are naming names now. I applaud the honesty. I mean Katie Couric has pointed out how she is uncomfortable with this whole being an American thing. It’s icky to associate yourself with the kind of people that actually live in it and believe it’s a good place. Ewww.”

And stolen from the last line of the above cited piece:

“I hereby nominate semanticleo for President of Douchebagistan”

  11. B Moe says:

Rather telling that cleo can’t imagine someone may go into self imposed hiding after being found to be a liar and a fraud, isn’t it. I don’t think the poor dear has any concept of shame.

  12. commander0 says:

Not for nothing but that TPM thing is two months old. STB had also been in contact with his wife (no longer a NR staffer) the whole time. Confederate Yankee is the place to go for the full “Scott Thomas” beatdown. A serious case of turtlehead going on, both by Beauchamp and NR.

  13. Merovign says:

Maybe nobody ever told Cleo that accusations require some sort of evidence.

That would explain an awful lot.

  14. Rob Crawford says:

    And……………your counterpoint?

You made an assertion, you back it up. Once you provide your evidence, we’ll provide a “counterpoint”. You might want to educate yourself on the meaning of assertion:

a positive statement or declaration, often without support or reason

Support your statement. If you don’t, then we’ll assume you’re just slandering the military.

  15. Big Bang (Pumping you up) says:

“….we’ll assume you’re just slandering the military.”

    – Assumptions of same are no longer necessary. The very fact that cleo-dorkus, and his merry gang of asshats, are willing to go on record defending a self-admitted liar is just one of a growing mountain of feckless acts that prove their distain and hate for our troops. Done deal.

    – Any sort of stability in Iraq is a dagger through the heart of the Secular Progressives anti-war movement, (and their al Qaeda brutha’s), keeping them in the zero chance of a change in administration position during an ongoing war. As we get nearer to the Presidential election cycle, the lies, manufactured outrages, and just general acting out in frenetic angst, and faux outrage of yet more “Anything.you.can.trump.up- Gates” will only intensify. Good luck with that moonies.

  16. Ric Locke says:

BB, what’s interesting to me is not that the mask is slipping; it was never more than a domino. What’s interesting is the pure, simple egotism being revealed. Semanticleo and her cohorts [ilk! ilk! — ed] simply cannot imagine being anything other than the single most important aspect of Beauchamp’s life, and their sincere puzzlement at the fact that the guy simply doesn’t want to talk to them any more would be touching if it weren’t quite so f*ing arrogant.

    Regards,
    Ric

If the Wehrmacht/Waffen SS delusion about The Bush administration isn’t strong enough among Sullivan, Yglesias

    effrontery of Brad Blakeman’s Freedom
Watch putting out a pamphlet* because Haditha is Lidice, never mind My .Lai.
Andrew Myers is Herschel Grynspan, and
    Naomi Wolf is Pastor Niemoller?

  18. Semanticleo says:

    Cobb and Tic Toc;

Why are you so threatened? Just state your case. Carry on.

    Bless your cheatin’ lil’ hearts.

  19. Squid says:

“Just state your case. Carry on.”

    Cleo,

If you “stated your case” with evidence and links, we’d appreciate your participation a whole lot more. But by and large you don’t so much “state your case” as make unfounded accusations or simply throw insults. That you then have the temerity to complain that we won’t rebut your non-arguments is further proof that you expect more of your rhetorical opponents than you do of yourself.

  20. Semanticleo can’t support her case with any evidence, she’s too busy fumigating the kitchen against the joos.
