Like my Grandfather always used to say…

“If we can’t count on the hyper-partisan bravery of bitchy male fashion designers to make blunt, socio-political statements about (potentially) closeted gay Republicans (BECAUSE OF THE HYPOCRISY!), who can we count on?”

And for those wags who answer “John Cole,” sorry, but no sale. Cole’s musings on the subject are, of necessity, sporadic — given that he remains committed to making certain we keep our collective sights fixed on the mess that is Iraq.

Still, my grandfather raised a good point: without the big, rivet-studded balls of the Marc Jacobs of the world, would this country really be worth defending?

Probably not — particularly if it insists on wearing “mommy” jeans and bad perms, or those awful spangled running suits it squeezes itself into to do laps around the mall.

Gah. Sometimes Marc wonders why he even bothers!

He’s as clever, avante garde, and daring in his statements as the average seventh grader.

  2. Jeff G. says:

Full disclosure: Gramps had, by contemporary standards, a wide stance.

Meh, the image on the shirt has the character’s shirt pocket on the wrong (right hand) side.

I hate when cutting edge avante garde T shirt art fucks up the basics.

  4. JD says:

I would not pay money for his overpriced faddish crap, so why would I give a flying fuck what he thinks?

  5. Major John says:

I encourage such fashion statements. Afterall, money spent on crappy T-shirts like those won’t end up in bundled contributions made by the likes of Mr. Hsu.

Jacobs has sometimes bucked prevailing fashion trends. In Spring 2004/2005, when designers were following the “safari theme”, he made his collection completely lady-like and the catwalk which the models walked on had an archway of 450,000 roses. Jacobs’ Fall 2005 collection received sharply mixed reviews. In 2006, he is set to bring out a watch collection this year under the brand of Marc Jacobs. These watches will feature classic and timeless aesthetics with a slightly vintage feel. His clothes are available in a few boutiques around the world including Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Paris, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, and Savannah, Georgia. In 2007, he was ranked as 8th on Out magazine list of “50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America”.[1]

On March 12, 2007, Jacobs checked into rehab for treatment of drug and alcohol abuse.[2]

In 2007 he chose Michael Stipe from the American band REM to model in his ads.

I like how Ted Haggard is trotted around as a HYPOCRISY!!LOL trophy by the left. Who the fuck knew who Haggard was before the media threw his face around the nightly newscasts like he was an abducted, 18-year old, blonde cheerleader from Iowa?

  8. cranky-d says:

Wow, he is really speaking truth to power. Yah, you betcha. I wonder what the horrible repercussions of his brave (and wide) stance will be?

Oh, right. None whatsoever. Carry on, Marc, you brave warrior.

  9. Who now? Is he the guy who designed my comfort-fit Wranglers?

    No?

“In 2007 he chose Michael Stipe from the American band REM to model in his ads”

Hey, that’s kinda hip. In a 1987 kinda way.

Maybe I should listen to what he has to sa…

    Nah.

Well of course it’s because the hivemind© that is Republican and conservative is WOUNDED, WOUNDED I SEZ whenever an evangelical preacher from a large church falls from grace.

We are all alike, walk in lockstep and weep tears of blood whenever anyone conservative is caught being teh hypocrite. Our vulnurability is only exceeded by our cancerous nature. And patriarchy. And institutional racism. And…

I founds the messages to be a little harsh but that could have been the heroin and Kristal talking. You know, nuance.

I must have missed that Haggard dust-up. Is he some coke snorting bi-sexual or something like that? Who is Haggard. Wasn’t he JR on Dallas?

I think we should just hold Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Louis Farrakhan out as examples of typical Leftists, and see how they react.

  12. Ed Gruberman says:

Anyone wearing those would be looked at not as a fashion forward looking individual but a Kool-Aid drinking commercialized sucker.

As conformist as a junior high school student, worried about what the cool kids say about them.

“In the high school halls, in the shopping malls, conform or be cast out.”
