Shocka in Caracas

Via American Thinker:

Al Jazeera is reporting that Venezuelan strong man Hugo Chavez is threatening to expropriate oil and gas assets of Exxon Mobil, ConocoPhillips, Chevron Corp, Norway’s Statoil, Britain’s BP Plc and France’s Total. According to Al Jazeera these assets produce 600,000 barrels of crude oil a day.

Well, who’da thunkit?

This threat has been looming for some time. Highlighting how negligent lawmakers have been is the embarrassing fact that Chavez’s actions were never mentioned during the debate the last two weeks in Senate on the so-called energy bill.

Oh.

That’s it for me today. Have to take Aidan and his buddy Desmond out to the movies, but I’ll leave you with a video that demonstrates why, even though I deplore their politics, I love XTC.

600,000 barrels of crude oil a day … think of how many LifeGems you could make.

Highlighting how negligent lawmakers have been…

That’s a bit harsh. Alleva’s smart enough to know that sometimes Congress just has bigger fish to fry. I mean, something’s gotta be done about wingnut talk radio and Jason Giambi ain’t gonna interview himself for Christ’s sake.

Goddamit, if they hadn’t had to protect us from the dangers of online gambling, Congress woulda been all over this, you betcha!

I’m here hoping that Exxon, Conoco, etc. take the "Courtland" approach to asset transfer.

This will be a good opportunity to watch the left display it complete economic  ignorance, as they pratter and rail about not feeling sorry for Exxon and all those big corporations.  It amuses me to no end to watch the same people who mock godbags and fundies for believing God is some old dude with a beard sitting on a throne in the sky seem to have the same kind of cartoon anthropomorphic view of corporations.  It is impossible for them to realize that Chavez is ripping off millions of Americans when he pulls this shit.

Now, B Moe. I’m sure they all made their state employee pension funds divest when Chavez came into power, just on principle.

Are e sure "Caracas" doesn’t rhyme with "crackers," as in "’E’s gone right crackers, ‘e ‘as!"…?

I was a little depressed as I read the list of oil companies at first. You know that no US company can do anything about it, imagine the hate columns directed at the evil, imperialist, American warmongering companies (since Exxon is in there, expect tons of allusions to the Valdez), and then I got to Norway’s Statoil. Hmmmm, they might do something if they had the balls.
And then, ahhhhhh, the money shot, as they say.  Total.
France might be a pussy when their sovereignty is threatened, but they can get downright bellicose when their profits are threatened.

Waja expect? He’s a freakin’ dictator fer chrisakes!

How many oil tankers does Venezuela have?  If I was running Exxon, Conoco and Chevron, I’d be buying up old diesel subs and sinking Huge-o’s assets at sea. Corporate warfare, anyone?

  12. mojo says:

On second thought, that might get you in a war with Liberia, and nobody sane would go there!…

Cardenas did the same in Mexico. We did,–what?– then? We’ll do –what?–now? And why aren’t the Mexicans as rich as the Middle East shahs? (some are, but it’s from drug money, not oil).  Or at least the U.S.? They have incredible natural resources. What’s the difference? Oh yeah. Socialism, socialism and um… socialism.
