During his school break from his studies in Germany, my son Brendan flew to Oman to visit his uncle in Muscat. He was there for the cyclone that struck, but flew out tonight. Some of the photos in his album are of the mountains, but others depict the devastation visited by the cyclone, which was the first in the Persian Gulf in living memory. Just lucky, I guess.
Here’s one:
Brendan’s caption said it used to be a highway.
uh Dan? I’m getting a “currently unavailable” message when I click the link.
It works for me, Darleen.

Wow, a desert country with bad drainage. What are the odds?
You’d think that sand would be ideal for the purpose. It’s gotta be Bush’s fault–somehow.
My teenager is at the Tony Awards tonight, on a high school trip. I was a little worried about him being swayed by all the fabulousness.
I think you and your son had some rather more critical worries.
Thanks for the info on this unusual storm. There’s a bad one down in New South Wales, too. Any bets on how long before these events are blamed on Republicans?
Global warming spikes storms in unusual places or in places that haven’t seen such storms in decades. Global warming is caused by nations that do not conform to Kyoto. The United States (even though it has reduced its carbon footprint by 8% since, what, 1991?) encourges use of SUVs and coal for electricity utilities. The U.S. president is George Bush. It’s George Bush’s fault that storms are wreaking havoc in Oman and NSW. He’s a Republican. It’s all the Republicans’ fault, too.
See how easy?
