Shitty in Pink [Dan Collins]

Not that I’m a big Gonzo fan, but Pillage Idiot has a post up about the latest lame-ass she-nanny-gans of Code Pink.

Stoo Pid sends me this:

Noted SquishyCon Hugh Hewitt is reading the Amnesty Bill, and even he is unhappy with it.

Of course, his problem isn’t with the amnesty, he claims to be troubled by the security aspects of it.

Toss in this little tidbit, and it appears that there’s something in this bill for everyone to despise.

Happy Trails.

    I have a comment.

This “back taxes” business – this is demagoguery on the part of the Boston Globe. The vast majority of illegal immigrants, if they *were* to pay “back taxes”, would qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit and *receive* money from the treasury, not pay in. This is because they are poor, and poor people do not pay income taxes. They *have* been paying Social Security/Medicare taxes, however.

To the extent that “tens of billions of dollars” are implicated, assuming this is an analysis of the minority of immigrants who *would* have a tax liability, it makes as much sense to look at that number in terms of the money the Treasury would *not* receive going forward under the status quo.

I am not in favor of this immigration bill thing, mostly because I hate seeing so many people unhappy, but this misinformation and propaganda is published by the Boston Globe for the sole purpose of maligning Bush, not to inform a debate.

Senate immigration bill that would enable 12 million undocumented residents to avoid paying back taxes

An independent analyst estimated the decision could cost the IRS tens of billions of dollars.

A little bit of simple math shows that for 12 million people forgiving 10 billion dollars is only about $833 each.  This isn’t enough money to be a deal breaker in my book.  At these amounts I think Happyfeet is right and we would probably be paying back EIC.  A tax bill of $833 dollars would be a taxable income income of $8330.

Maximum income to recieve the EIC with no children is ~$12,000 and with multiple children can be as high as ~$38,000.
