Medium-Sized Eichmanns Oust “Academic” [Dan Collins]

This morning on NPR, I heard another Colorado academic defending Churchill on grounds that the guy’s academic fraud had been brought to light as a result of his political views.  Because, you know, discovery of academic fraud is tainted by “profiliing.” But here’s the news:

“This is not about dissent on campus,” ACTA’s Neal concluded. “Academics have a right to say whatever they want in the public forum. But academic freedom—which governs classroom speech and research—brings with it responsibility. And when professors fail to be responsible, they abuse the sacred trust we place in them, and sanctions are in order. President Brown’s decision is a victory for CU’s scholarly reputation and for all its faculty who do adhere to professional standards, perform rigorous research, and engage in sound scholarship.”

I heard that too. It was basically a “I question the timing” frame that asserted that Churchill was being persecuted for his “criticism and dissent.” Why was this NPR-worthy at all?

    a. They must think that their audience is inclined to buy the idea that Churchill is a truth-to-power hero, being all stifled and all.

    b. They wanted to get out front of the story and get the truth-to-power framing out there because they realize that the Democrats are by no means inoculated from association with Churchill’s brand of crazy, and they are truly concerned about that.

Also, that video was creepy. Dudes, Barbie wants her legs back.

Dude, was that Kenny Rogers hosting that show!?

another radlib charlatan bites the dust. given the glaring fraudulence of Herr Churchill, amazing his ouster took as long as it did.

Bitchin’…I set stage and ran the lights for Paul Revere and the Raiders (post-Mark Lindsay) for three days in 1976.  Great buncha guys, drummer even let me play his set.

I don’t know, McGehee.  Do you think so?

Song holds up really well.  Churchill’s scholarhip?  Well…

Here’s the exact framing NPR used on its story about the “Sept. 11 Commentator”:

The university has said it will not fire Churchill simply for exercising his free speech rights. But soon after making that statement, officials began an inquiry into Churchill’s research methods.

NPR underscores the free speech angle throughout the piece, setting up a bizarre dichotomy between protection of free speech and plagiarism/fabrication.

Comments like that prompted politicians, talk show hosts and conservative activists to call for Churchill’s firing. But the university refused, citing free-speech grounds.

The allegations for which Churchill is being dismissed? Here’s all NPR is willing to reveal…

As Churchill became national news, several complaints about his past research methods surfaced. An investigation was launched.

    […]

Investigative committees concluded that Churchill plagiarized others’ work and fabricated facts to back up his arguments.

So there’s your tax dollars at work. A meticulous report on the reasons for which Ward Churchill is allegedly NOT being fired.

Seems like the idea of being fired for fabricating stuff strikes a nerve at NPR.

I am pretty sure it was, he used to have a TV show way back in the days of the First Edition.

Dan, your good buddies in the McGee family have hit the news again.

Junior’s been arrested on extortion charges.

While Churchill’s plagiarism/fabrication certainly appear to warrant dismissal, what I find scary about this situation is that, if he hadn’t brought the national spotlight on himself, he’d be sittin’ fat, dumb, and happy, safely in the mainstream of Bouldah’s social science faculty politics, and not too far off center in their academic standards. Thus, I don’t find it at all surprising that it took this long to can his ass.

‘Course I could be a bit biased, me and a couple of the Bouldah faculty don’t get on too well.

Yeah, I saw that, Pesch.  Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Why is it that every time you see the phrase “sacred trust”, it’s buried in several feet of horse manure?

    That’s our one great advantage.

The solution is obvious: let’s investigated ALL tenured professors for plagiarism and other academic fraud and misconduct!

I think First Edition performed “Something’s Burning” on the episode I saw. I’d forgotten he ever didn’t look old.

The left resents getting fired for fabricating stuff.  It has to.  I mean, there’s communism, single-pay health care plans, high taxes, HIV as a result, primarily, of liberal sexual mores, the lies of the New Yawk Times that embraced Uncle Joe Stalin while he murdered millions of Ukranians, and the list goes on and on.  If it weren’t for mendacity, the left could not continue to exist…

The best part of this story is Churchill’s own surpassing arrogance. It is specifically stated several times in the faculty review committee’s report that Churchill was combative, unresponsive and uncooperative during the interviews. Apparently he didn’t even bother to explain the away the evidence, opting instead for hyperbole and accusations of political oppression.

Even with all of that the board couldn’t bring themselves to fire him. I predict that being the preening media whore that he is, he’ll milk the lawsuit for a while and then drop it, staking his claim to shining martyrdom for the cause of truthiness.

Kudos to the president of CU for doing the right thing.

What strikes me as most ironic is that if a student had done the exact same thing as Churchill, the student would have been expelled, post haste.

    Nothing ironc about that ..at…all…….

Wait, you mean that you think that college is all about the STUDENTS?
