Over the resignation of Ambassador Randall L. Tobias, Former United States Global AIDS Coordinator and Deputy Secretary of State, according to Michelle Malkin, who apparently doesn’t dig the hip lingo for this, as a result of disclosures in the DC Madam scandal.
From Michelle, we learn that “[h]e is returning to private life for personal reasons.” It is likely that he has practiced safe sex, though abstinence might have been better. Ambassador Tobias spent much of his career working for AT&T, whose motto was once, “reach out and touch someone.” He also was CEO of Eli Lilly, which produces contraceptives. “His book on leadership lessons learned, Put The Moose On The Table, written with his son, Todd Tobias, was published in early 2003.”
“Tobias has been awarded honorary Doctor of Laws degrees by . . . Ball State University.”
ABC is grappling with the question of whether to air a report or identify some of those on the list. “We can’t comment on ongoing reporting,” ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider said.
Just as soon as they can determine the political affiliations of those on the list. So, let the savaging begin.

BTW, Feisty’s no longer posting. You should have been able to find that out where she visits, but if you hadn’t before, it will have to be here.

You know, this is why more more social liberal leanings come to the fore.
I believe prostitution should be legalized and regulated rather than have this kind of thing keep cropping up over and over and over again.
Every decade or so a high powered “madame” gets busted and her little black [note]book and who is on it becomes the Sex Scandal du jour.
BFD.
But the question, in my mind anyway, is whether or not the legality of it would affect Tobias’ position. Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean he wouldn’t suffer repercussions when word of his activites got out. And I feel that that is the larger issue. He put himself in a position to be blackmailed, and he has access to clasified material.
Now please tell me that someone other than ABC News is going to see this list. When they release these names and, coincidentally, they’re all Republicans, I’m going to lose it.
Due as much as him engaging in an illegal activity as in just a merely socially immoral or amoral one. What if he just had a mistress on the side? Would he have felt the need to immediately resign?
Heck, I guess he would be celebrated by left if only he had a live-in boyfriend with a gay prostitution business in the basement.
“let the savaging begin.”
The list of greedheads, hypocrites and scofflaws
is already too long for the average reader’s attention span. I propose Wiktionary make “Bush Official” a metaphor for ‘corruption’.
My mistake. Wik says ‘corrupt’ was good, then went bad.
Shouldn’t they be printing ALL the johns’ names?
This stuff is as old as Washington…. George.
but here is a blast from the past

tw: “she appeared26 officer, but all I saw was her hair…. and anyway it was a combined study of condom research and whether abstinence and hundred dollar bills are mutually exclusive.
The condom worked, and it does seem that waving hundreds trumps abstinence.
I demand a Medal of Freedom”
From the title of the book “Put the Moose on the Table” we can deduce he likes the plus sized gals?
Or …. is it “the moose is loose” baby….
Payaso
tw: “I used71 condoms in the course of my research and I don’t have AIDS. Why is this a scandal? I’m just doing my job.”
Now, if I recall (and, as we’ve seen, a lot of folks lately have trouble doing that) Conservatives tend to go just a bit insane over so-called ‘sex scandals,’ demanding resignations, impeachments, and, if all else fails, the wrath of God.
Is there a Classical Liberal in the house who can articulate that party’s position on these matters ?
It’s good when a dude who is holds government’s top anti-AIDs position, who resorts to a call-girl service, resigns, though it’s not as though he abused a position of power with respect to an employee.
How’s that?
Yes, indeed, a Venial, but not a Mortal sin.
Thank you. I was sure that Clinton had to be involved in this somehow.
Yes, it’s so tendentious to point out the hypocrisy of the other side.
Well….I think that would depend on how hyprocritical his actions were to the morality he espouses
He sure left in a hurry with these circumstances though. It makes me think he was really embarassed by it. Perhaps as an Ambassador he felt like he embarassed his country in addition to himself. If it’s a case of embarassment, do you think a mistress is less so?
I can’t wait to see how much opportunism is displayed in the next coming weeks. I can already hear the cries of hypocrisy; “You impeached Clinton over sex, everyone on this list(except Democrats) should resign”.
“How’s that?”
Fair but measured. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
When it comes to hypocrisy among the ruling class, every side’s “the other side.”
So, if I understand you (and I will be amazed if I do) … since Clinton got a few blow-jobs, no Democrat may ever again object to immoral/illegal behavior ?
(Don’t get me wrong though: I believe that if our elected officials got laid more often they’d do a hell of a lot less damage.)
No, R.L., but you fail to take into account the subject position of the intern, the power disparity, yadda-yadda. You also fail to take into account the political leanings of many, including many who are “classical liberals” on this topic, who wouldn’t mind seeing a legal sex-worker industry in the US, just as it exists elsewhere–particularly in many European countries.
Seeing as it’s not legal (just as it’s not legal to lie to a Grand Jury), I’m glad the guy’s gone.
Well, I won’t miss the fellow. And if a silly scandal like this can take down a few dozen more of these political animals, I won’t lose a night’s sleep.
Seeing as he was spearheading Bush’s anti-AIDs efforts in trebling finance to Africa, and all.
Yes, a nice touch, helping out “our darker brothers;” but, remember, not one dime of that money went for condoms. So, we can thank Jesus for that.
Condom manufacturers are in the pocket of Big Oil.
That’s weird. Most guys keep them in their wallets.
But there was a guy in my old neighborhood they called Big Earl. (Well, that’s what the girls called him.)
As Frankie Valle said, “Big Earl’s, they don’t cry-y-y.”
US government distributes more condoms globally than any other country
http://africa.reuters.com/top/news/usnBAN523957.html
But believe whatever you want…
Critics hate any mutation of “abstinence”.
They seem to think the government should only be involved at the level of free condoms and free abortions… oh and maybe free health care for AIDS patients.
Emphasizing that leaving the nasty hookers at the trans African truck stops alone virtually eliminates the chances of getting AIDS from them… isn’t moralizing. It simply reminds everyone of the obvious and easiest AIDS prevention solution. Be faithful is another nod to the obvious. Use a condom. They are for sale….. cheap all over the world. Dirt cheap. But no, the US is supposed to make sure free condoms are in surplus at every brothel from Uganda to Pattaya.
Well, perhaps that is the point here: —don’t we all wish Mr. Tobias will hereafter remain faithful to his marriage vows, and avoid coming down with that nasty AIDS thing?
Loose lips sink ships.
Too much collagen, perhaps.
I’ll never hear that expression the same way again.
I was working at my friend’s dad’s printing shop over break, and we were trying to grind out 50,000 FunJet travel brochures overnight. One of the press guys, Lou, decided to try and ink a whole bunch of rollers at the same time. He slipped, and got ink all over his pelvis.
So the joke was . . .
Lou slips, inks hips.
Sheesh.
Proving once again: Truth IS stranger than fiction.
To coin a phrase: “Way.”
ABC News is owned by the Walt Disney Co. Some people may be planning to go to Walt Disney World for a happy family vacation this summer. Republicans love dicking whores.
I know this is a review, but your Mammy post reminded me how much these guys hate it when they lose control of their branding.
A friend of mine back in the day was a social worker in appalachia. She told the story of a welfare family with about six kids or so living in a tiny shack up the holler that she was giving condoms to as part of a new program. The mother got pregnant again and my friend asked if they were using the condoms, the woman said her husband wouldn’t do it because the kids made fun of him.
Just sayin’.
Hey, leo, what was Webb Hubbell’s position in the Bush Administration?
He was Assistant Atty. General, as I recall. As an
Atty with the Rose Law Firm, he had contacts with
the mysterious firm of Stephens & Co, whose principal figure, Jackson Stephens, was the middle
man for the BCCI front group back in the mid to late 70s; the Saudi ,Emirati, and Pakistani bank
which laundered terrorist and drug proceeds.
And where did he go after he left his AG position?
Club Fed.
I have never really considered it before, but is it possible to blackmail a person who knows no shame?
Only out of a threat that revelation would get them in some sort of legal/fiscal/political trouble…
“””But the question, in my mind anyway, is whether or not the legality of it would affect Tobias’ position. “””
How ? How is that a question in your mind ?
Whether the future of the AIDS co-cordinator who required those receiving AIDS program funding to undertake anti-prostitution loyalty oaths will rest on the question of the legality of his own escort/massuesse usage.
What question have you ever resolved in your mind if not this one ?
I think we definitely should hold hearings.
Darleen said:
I interpreted that to mean that if it were legal it wouldn’t be a scandal. I was simply questioning how the situation would be different if prostitution were legal.
As you implied, Your Frogness, the situation may not be different. The social scandal and/or the personal scandal may be sufficient that someone would succumb to blackmail to cover it up.
Major John did note that balckmail covers more than threatening someone that a crime will come out if a consideration is not given. A social failing can be great fodder for blackmail – IIRC some of Sherlock Holmes’cases involved hushing up such scandals. (I know it is fiction, but the example is still good.)
TW: girl67. How does it do that?
I demand Waxman call him before a committee at once. That’ll get to the….to the….*snicker* bottome of this.
Yes, I am sure that I would enjoy learning the names of every high-level person in Washington D.C. that had used an escort service. And imagining all of them doing so. *gag* And I am sure that a bomber hanger could not hold the printout of names.
Forget it. We’d have to give Hillary! two terms just to read out the list… ain’t worth it…
Thanks B Moe, I haven’t laughed that hard since mom tried to get daddy to use a condom..
Any article featuring someone named Tobias automatically brings to mind Dr. Tobias Funke of Arrested Development, which, in turn, reduces me to hysterical giggling, and the article never gets read.
Anyone else that way?
