Andrea Mitchell says the Darnedest Things [Karl]

The Sorosphere is trying to make a story out of Andrea Mitchel’’s comment on Sunday’s Chris Matthews Show that that Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, met “very recently” with the Senate Republican caucus to discuss their strategy on Iraq legislation.

I suspect this story will fizzle.  Folks in the mass media do not want to discuss whether Mitchell’s offhand TV comments can be trusted.  And if the Democrats declined to meet Gen. Petraeus in favor of union leaders and anti-war activists, you can be sure their pals in the mass media will avoid it.

——-

Update: Mitchell now says that Petraeus recently held a “closed circuit briefing” for senators of both parties, “Democrats as well as Republicans.”

dkos is disappointed in his fresh face, well spoken candidate. I guess he’ll throw his support to pony boy.

    Hey, man.  Priorities.

If President Bush vetoes an Iraq war spending bill as promised, Congress quickly will provide the money without the withdrawal timeline the White House objects to because no lawmaker “wants to play chicken with our troops,” Sen. Barack Obama said Sunday.

    To which Kos responded:

What a ridiculous thing to say. Not only is it bad policy, not only is it bad politics, it’s also a terrible negotiating approach.

Instead of threatening Bush with even more restrictions and daring him to veto funding for the troops out of pique, Barack just surrendered to him.

Let me repeat that—Obama just surrendered to Bush.

How can anybody have that much of a lack of self-awareness?

Mr. Kos is so enamoured of his own voice that he doesn’t realize what the Senator realizes – the presidency is the bully-pulpit, and even a tongue-tied stumble-word like George Bush is going to win the argument over funding for the military.

As Rep. Obey said “Do you see a magic wand in my pocket?  We ain’t got the votes!”

This presupooses that the Media will be fair-minded and recognize it when they are full of beans.  The MSM has been amazingly adept at ignoring inconvenietn truths.

Wait a minute – are you telling me that the Republicans let political considerations enter into their political activities?  It’s politics, dangit!  Scandal!  Throw these scallywag politicos, who would insert their politics into politics, out of politics…

    Sigh.

The Senate Republican caucus consulted with Petraeus on Iraq legislation. Seems reasonable to understand the positions of the people you’re going to bat for.  You want to know if they have reservations about being able to succeed with the level of support you can give them.

Pelosi is consulting with Assad for the same reason.

  8. Mikey NTH says:

    Ouch.

I felt that one over here, JPT.
