In an article pondering the youthful Barack Obama’s dual non-religiosity in Indonesia, the LA Times messes up its hagiograph with a variety of contending voices, then compounds the muddle with this:
The sensitivity of Islam as a political issue was on display earlier this year with the false report that Obama had attended a radical madrasa here. The report, which appeared initially on a conservative-oriented online magazine and then on a Fox News program, attributed the news to opposition researchers for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.). Both campaigns denied the story and accused conservative media outlets of trying to use the rumor to smear two Democratic hopefuls simultaneously.
Other highlights:
- Bugs have eaten Obama’s file in the school’s archive
- Effendi. . ., like many Indonesians, uses only one name
- Obama’s stepfather “was breeding crocodiles in his house,” he added.
- The family’s pets included a turtle as big as a cookie tin and an ape named Tata, which Obama’s stepfather brought from New Guinea. Soetoro worked for Mobil Oil and was a “chubby, and relaxed kind of guy,” Adi said.
- Obama was taller and better dressed than most kids in classes where shoes and socks were still luxuries
What does it say about the fall from greatness of the Democratic party when its leading Presidential contenders are an empty suit, an ambulance chasing head of hair and the leftover, Senator Inevetable?
TW: are the serious64?
“The United Church of Christ”? And I thought they were trying to make us believe Obama is a Christian who believes in Christian sexual morality!
getting…..nauseous….
He may have been tall, but hurling projectiles at his head would tend to negate the reach advantage.
For what its worth, at least some are saying the report of this school being a Madrassah is accurate.
I don’t know whether to trust this source or not, but it is out there.
Personally I’m more concerned about Obama’s present day black supremacist religious activities.
Whatever school he attended as a child isn’t relevant in my opinion, because that was a choice his parents made. You could argue that what happens as a child shapes you later, but that means that anyone who went to public school in the last 20 years is a suspected liberal.
Choices he made and continues to make as an adult are fair game.
It doesn’t really matter to me, either, but it seems extremely likely most Muslems are going to view him as an apostate, and I find that pretty freekin’ funny given he is being touted as the future of diplomacy.
I’m hoping this will be a most entertaining primary season.
TW: big14—Yeah, and that’s Hillary.
