A box of rotini and 2 jars of alfredo sauce costs only a little bit more and tastes ten times better than mac-n-cheese, Jeff, and fills the whole family up. Cooks quicker than mac, too.
Add a bottle of chianti and a bit of garlic bread to soak up the alfredo sauce remaining in the pan and you have a cheap italian-american meal.
Me, I grilled cheeseburgers for lunch. Nearly 70 degrees here in NC right now.
I remember the good ole days, when the cheese came in a seperate little can. NOW that was mac n cheese!!!! My mom used to add bacon pieces. That was living…..
Kraft still makes that, Todd. It’s called Kraft Deluxe, and the cans have been replaced by foil pouches now. Tastes the same, though. Pretty good for Mac-n-cheese.
Kraft Mac & Cheese with the can cheese and cut up hot dogs was the best meal EVER! when I was growing up (and was a dirt cheap way to fill up before a big night of drinking in college).
Might be why I’m 20 pounds overweight and cringe at the sight of the Kraft logo, but still…
I gotta couple of servings of Weight Watcher’s recipe mac and cheese in the fridge. I dunno about anyone else, but mac and cheese with tomatoes just don’t seem right.
Last time I had Kraft Deluxe Mac & Cheese I stroked out. I think it’s 800+ mg of sodium per serving. I ate at least half the box. Felt like I had been hitting an MSG lick all day. If congress wants to nanny us why don’t they lean on packaged food manufacturers to reduce the sodium content of products by 90%?
Think of the children!
They should also include a week’s worth of Lipitor for each ‘serving’ in a Mac & Cheese box.
If that mac & cheese came from a blue box you’d be better off checking out good eats at the food tv site, that geek Alton makes tasty do it yourself mac & cheese so easy an armadillo could make it. Now off to rehab for a diversity refersher for myself.
TW:students23….by the time they’re 23 they’re used up like a tube of tooth paste.
Actually, today’s mac and cheese was Kraft, in a Scooby-Doo box.
Youngsters sometimes don’t appreciate the good stuff.
You are so right. When my kids were little, I used to try to be a great mom by making delicious mac and cheese from scratch. Then one day my kindergartner told another mom that he had to eat homemade because we couldn’t afford the Kraft stuff.
The Kraft stuff (with a can of tuna stirred in) will always hold a soft spot in my heart, but Mrs. Wilson’s mac and cheese at Wilson’s Soul Food, 351 N. Hull St., Athens Ga is the best mac and cheese I have ever put in my mouth. Especially with some turnip greens and cornbread.
Ask Mary K Hamm, I’ll bet she has had some. And no, I did not get compensated for this endorsement.
They got a Noodles near you, Jeff? Their Wisconsin Mac & Cheddar is pretty solid.
Or are you talking about those DIY mac & cheese kits from Safeway?
If it isn’t bright orange, it isn’t macaroni & cheese.
I don’t care what Cracker Barrel says.

Kind of like yin and single malt…
Some things are better left unsaid.
Did you see where Lassie got killed in a fire while saving her human family, Jeff?

First Captain America, now Lassie. All our childhood icons are perishing.
These things come in 3’s, remember. I’m waiting for the next shoe to drop. Morris the Cat? Bozo? Who?
THE CARBS!! MY GOD, THINK OF THE CARBS MAN!!
Or at least the glycemic index, TallDave.
Whatever that is.

Thanks, but I don’t think my arteries can withstand that cheesy sludge any longer.
Whatever it is, it’s been hiding under my bed for the past month or so.

Gotta cancel out that fatty cheese with some antioxidants, don’t you know?
but mac and cheese with tomatoes just don’t seem right.
I haven’t seen a bowl of mac and cheese yet that couldn’t be improved by the addition of a pound of ground beef and some tomato sauce.

Because the manufacturers couldn’t turn around and sell the low-salt varieties at a 20-30% markup!

Not making “do it yourself” mac & cheese is the whole point, I believe.
And like I said—if it ain’t bright orange…
