Ken Larsen on the VA [Dan Collins]

Please see Ken’s comments here.

Money quote: “I do not say the VA system is perfect but it is certainly being run better on a $39B budget than the Pentagon is running on $494B.”

If you’re interested in the real inside view of issues affecting the military, his blog is a good resource.  There’s a link there to his SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) website as well.

Breaking Story, Treacher:

LINDSAY BEYERSTEIN EXPLAINS WHY SHE TURNED DOWN THE EDWARDS-BLOGGING JOB THAT BROUGHT DOWN THE WRATH OF THE PATRIARCHY ON AMANDA MARCOTTE

But how was the baklava?

Wonder what victim of “right-wing smear machine” Marcotte thinks about this?

Here we heap scorn, and there, it seems, they pour it, but is there enough?

  1. BumperStickerist says:

Lindsey’s description of Marcotte being the best writer of a feminist blog was like saying that Amanda’s the finest opera singer in Finland.

    Noteworthy.

    In Finland.

  2. B Moe says:

Unlike the liberal netroots, the right-wing blogosphere is capable of exactly one kind of collective political action. They call it “scalping”—they pick a target and harass that person and his or her employer until the person either jumps or is pushed out of the public eye. Whoever blogged for Edwards was signing up for a lot of bad hair days, and it wasn’t going to be me.

“Scalping”?  You guys have been playing a game called “scalping” and nobody told me?  This really pisses me off, I thought we were friends.

  3. Dan Collins says:

    Ask scalpuccino, B Moe

  4. They says:

    It’s true.

    I call it ‘scalping’.

Notice, though, that Lindsay says that the Netroots Left is capable of more kinds of collective political action than the right.

Lindssay does not claim that the Netroots does not use ‘scalping’ too.  As Messers Domenech and Guckert can attest.

  5. Dan Collins says:

    They,

That’s kind of the least of her special pleading in that piece, though it did make me raise an eyebrow the first time through.

  6. wow, so that’s what reality looks like. huh. I think I’ll pass, thanks.

  7. B Moe says:

It is a pretty amazing article, you could spend a week studying it.  The thing that amuses me about the whole deal, is the idea that a Democrat campaign knuckled under to someone considered extreme even by most Republicans.  Why the hell do they care whether they have Donahue’s support?  Given what little bit I know of him, I would wear his disdain as a badge of honor.

I also think it is hilarious that after years of ridiculing Michelle, they scurry back home like frightened little girls after getting just a taste of the vitriol she has been dealing with her entire careet.  Speak truth to power my ass.

  8. B Moe says:

A careet is almost exactly like a career, by the way.

  9. B Moe, my favorite/most amusing aspect to it is that the “left side of the blogosphere” isn’t as well organized or financed.  for some reason the name George Soros kept popping into my head.  also, we need to come up with a name as snazzy as Drink Liberally.

  10. Dan Collins says:

    Snort Conservatively?

  11. Pablo says:

maggie, the terms Eschacon and Yearly Kos just popped into my head. Coinkydink?

  12. I almost made another comment to mention those Pablo. so, um, I guess if we find a third, then no, no coinkydink.  is there a righty parallel?

  13. cjd says:

How about the PW Pie Fest?  On second thought, that sounds kinda gross.

  14. B Moe says:

… also, we need to come up with a name as snazzy as Drink Liberally.

    Drink Responsibly?

  15. Rusty says:

    Shit faced?

  16. I’m thinking something with “imbibe”.  righteously?

  17. Dan Collins says:

    The Obliterighties.

  18. McGehee says:

    “Imbibe Impeccably.”

Or, at the end of the evening, “Impeck Imbibeably.”

  19. The Lost Dog says:

I’m sorry, but Amanda is old news to me.

What I want to know is, how does the poster boy for Downe’s Syndrome win an Academy Award? (If that’s what he won).

The major award there should be for having long enough arms to pat yourself on the back. I did enough Hollywood in the 70’s to know that there is nothing but horrifically fucked up children drowning in major pain there.

That said, Michelle Trachtenberg(?) has been known to get the ancient juices flowing…

  20. Darleen says:

    Uh Dan?

I’ve been a little late to the party, and in deference to JeffG I didn’t post ‘em here (I know he wants the issues with the two characters to die)

but I created a couple of photoshops here … one being the second in the Please Drink Irresponsibly series.

    :-D

    Drink (hic) Period.

    Quaff Righteously!

Not to be confused with queef, NTTAWWT.

Wasn’t there something about a “townhouse”?
