Former teen idol Leif Garrett comments on efforts by a Florida Democratic legislator to ban the term “alien” to refer to “undocumented immigrants”

Garrett:  “I am so down with that.  In fact, I’ve been trying to get some friends of mine in Van Nuys to put together a grassroots campaign calling for a ban on the totally un-nice term ‘felony drug offender.’ I’m thinking something like, ‘dudes who are so into living life that they’re willing to defy the Fascist State’—though I’m not married to it.

“Plus, I’m having a hard time getting my friends to come down long enough to stop playing Tetris and eating all my Snowballs.  So it’s, like, definitely a work in progress.”*

I understand they are trying to ban the N-word in New York too (Black leaders on this.)

Schopenhauer noted a long time ago that getting rid of a derogatory name is pointless because you don’t get rid of the thing or concept that earned the derogation in the first place.

They’ll just come up with some other name for illegal aliens.

  2. Jeff Goldstein says:

Or “undocumented immigrants” will become a “code word” for alien.

I say we start calling undocumented workers ETs, just to drive this would-be Florida lexicographer BATTY.

  3. Steve says:

    Persons of Dorsal Moisture

Aztecs (already a term of opprobium)

    Apocalypto Here

Fruito Bandutos (reserved for GG’s cabana boys)

Paperless Office – business that only employs illegal aliens

    … and so on …

  4. B Moe says:

…said Sen. Frederica Wilson, D-Miami. “An alien to me is someone from out of space.”

Has anyone seen witheld lately?  Seriously.

  5. BJTexs says:

    Salsa Mounties

    Misdirected by the Northern Star

    Turnpike Touristas

    Reconnondocumentas

    stopping now…

  6. I like “lawbreaker”.  It’s more to the point.

  7. JohnAnnArbor says:

“I personally find the word ‘alien’ offensive when applied to individuals, especially to children,” said Sen. Frederica Wilson, D-Miami. “An alien to me is someone from out of space.”

Ms. Wilson’s vocabulary limitations are not our problem.

  8. Jeff Goldstein says:

I can just see the poor illegal children being brutalized in school by the children of citizens, whose racist parents will almost assuredly arm them with Tasers.

  9. Bill D. Cat says:

Taser Tots , sounds like a cartoon …. or something to throw in the oven ….

  10. proudvastrightwingconspirator says:

Why don’t we just call them what they really are:

    “Soon-to-be Democrat Voters”?

  11. FabioC. says:

Boys, forget about new diseases, culture shock, superweapons and all that.

When we’ll make contact with an alien race the main concern will be how not to offend them and how to accomodate their sensitivities.

The “Alien” franchise movies will be the first to go down. So long, Ripley.

  12. Steve says:

Is this the Frederica Wilson we are talking about?

    Okay.

Do I have this right.  The problem is not with the word “illegal” the problem is the word “alien”, which reminds Ms Wilson of someone from “out of space.”

    Right.

  13. Steve says:

“They are immigrants, through no fault of their own, not aliens.”

Wilson said the first word isn’t as bad as the second.

“‘Illegal,’ I can live with, but I like ‘undocumented’ better,” she said.

Asked if her bill (SB 2154) might run afoul of Gov. Charlie Crist’s “plain speaking” mandate for government agencies, Wilson said, “I think getting rid of ‘alien’ would be plain speaking.”

You just have to read it to get the golden glow.

Just saw that pic, Steve.  Did Huggy Bear have a little sister that nobody knew about?  Or, maybe she considers herself the darker version of Bella Abzug.

  15. JFH says:

Bill would mandate nicer term for illegals

Who is this “Bill” and why is he trying to restrict my 1st Amendment rights?

“They are immigrants, through no fault of their own…”

Right. They were minding their own business back home in Mexico when all of a sudden this UFO swooped down, beamed them up, and then set them down in the U.S.

    Got it.

    Fellow travelers ???? ….nah , been taken .

  20. grouch says:

We used to just call ‘em Messkins.

And I believe they cause global warming. Didn’t used to be this hot, and there didn’t used to be this many Messkins. Coincidence? I think not.

They got all that hot chili and shit too.

  21. Robb Allen says:

    Bwah hah hah!

I knew you’d do better with that than I could. Of course, my rebuttal would have including quite possibly every foul word known in the English language mixed in with several Spanish ones and a few I would have made up on the spot.

Maybe I should cut down on the coffee.

  22. MCPO Airdale says:

How about “Members of an invasion force”?

  23. MayBee says:

    Gov. Crist

While she’s at it, she should try to force the governor to change his last name. There are people that might, through no fault of their own, think he’s the messiah.

  24. Jess says:

Speaking of immigration, anyone notice that an undocumented armadillo appeared here:

    http://www dot powerlineblog dot com

….  I mean, after some mescaline & tequila, God only knows where he’ll likely wind up.
