Mexico Angered by Alleged Border Violation [Dan Collins]

American illegals flooding 10 meters into Mexico.

Father Ted Festival

At Power Line’s new AOL site, more comparison and contrast between Sandy Berger and Scooter Libby–including just how close Berger came to having his theft and destruction of property belonging to the American people swept under the rug completely.

Only 13% of Sarasota voters too stupid to read a ballot.

Kiss of death.

Gates orders review of Walter Reed.  I think that the blogosphere can help.

In a statement, the US Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza said: “The US is sensitive to Mexican concerns… [and] has the deepest respect for the integrity of the sovereignty of Mexican soil”.

Where’s the Mexican regard for US sovereignty? It certainly doesn’t come up when their government publishes comic books telling people how to illegally enter the US, or when their military escorts coyotes and drug runners across the border.

Many Mexicans see the fence as offensive and say it will be ineffective and potentially cause more deaths in border crossings.

That’s not a bug, it’s a feature. If they don’t want to die in the desert, don’t go into it.

An estimated 1.2 million illegal immigrants were arrested in 2005 trying to cross into the US via the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

About 11 million Mexicans are thought to live in the US, more than six million of them illegally.

And yet they bitch about a few dozen construction workers and pieces of equipment.

Why the hell are English-speaking countries the only ones in the world that aren’t allowed to control their borders?

  2. Dan Collins says:

    Rob–

To say nothing of the Mexican social services bigwigs who went to LA to show solidarity with the demonstrations on behalf of “immigrant rights.”

  3. B Moe says:

Carter told Stephanopoulos that he had not called Gore “lately” adding, “He almost told me, the last time I talked, ‘Don’t call me anymore.’”

Almost.  What Gore actually told him was: ”STOP CALLING ME YOU ARE CREEPING ME COMPLETELY THE FUCK OUT YOU SENILE OLD FOOL!”

  4. Rob Crawford says:

The Berger story’s also maddening. When a leftist breaks the law and damages national security, nothing’s done about it—NYT on the overseas wiretaps, LA Times on covert identities, what’s-her-name phoning a terrorist money channel to ask them what they thought about the FBI raid scheduled for the next day. Meanwhile, Libby’s on trial not because he revealed Plame’s identity—Armitage has admitted it was him—but because his recollection of events years ago is different from that of reporters attempting to keep themselves out of legal jeopardy.

The double standard isn’t just striking, it’s dangerous. We’re damned close to making political differences illegal.

Sure, isn’t it killing me not to be on Craggy Island right now.

“There’s always time for a nice cup of tea. Sure, didn’t the Lord himself pause for a nice cup of tea before giving himself up for the world.”

“Well Ted, as I said last time, it won’t happen again.”

    Dermot Morgan, RIP.

That would be an ecumenical matter, Meg.

  7. B Moe says:

Needless to say, voters in the district seem a little unhappy with the conclusion that thirteen percent of them are so incompetent that they could not properly cast their votes. However, the independent panel ran the machines and their software through the wringer and could not find any malfunctions. Further, they said that any such problem would have affected more than one race, and no evidence of severe undervoting arose from the other races on the ballot.

The positioning of the Jennings-Buchanan contest appears to have caused the problem. The two-person race got stuck between multiple-candidate lists, making it difficult to pick them out. The electronic ballot, which used pictures and touch screens, did not highlight the race in the same way as it did others, making it easier to miss.

We should take the contract for voting machines away from Diebold and give it to Fisher-Price.

The CTO where I work keeps calling for our systems to be as easy to use as an ATM. Whenever I hear that, I can’t help but think of how many people have problems with ATMs.

Maybe Mexico should build a fence or something.

Seriously, am I the only one who sees what really will become of illegal immigration, aside from Americans becoming significantly shorter on average?  By sending us half of their population, Mexico is essentially giving us the rest of their country. Having a large portion of their population deeply dependent upon a larger and more powerful neighbor is a far greater threat to Mexico’s sovereignity than it is to ours. We’ll take their people today, and their country tomorrow.

The short-sightedness of the Mexican oligarchy never fails to impress me, CM.

You know the “you took the half with all the paved roads, señor” joke? Not so funny when we absorb the other half simply because it can no longer function and has lost its sovereignty.

Actually, I think I’m going to go out and rent at least one series of Fr. Ted now. (The shame is that I don’t own any of it.)

Ever seen people who simply cannot figure out the self serve grocery checkout machines?

THEY STILL HAVE LANES WITH CASHIERS IN THEM, PEOPLE!! THAT’S FOR YOU!

  14. Boss429 says:

Mexico’s Congress has condemned what it says is a border violation by US workers building a controversial barrier between the two countries.

What does it take for our congress to react similarly to this

Consider that all of the American money leaving this country is going to families of the underclass- ostracized and disenfranchised minorities- who are suddenly gaining serious economic power.

And if we play our cards right, a love and respect for the free market and free people.

Oh, yeah. That’s always fascinating to watch. God forbid they’ve got something that needs weighing.

~ The NYT has a round up of Pres candidates and Iraq, worth reviewing.

~ NYT also has an Op Ed about how the fence with Mexico is preventing the free movement of wildlife, with (I’m sure) devastating ecological whatever ….

~ GOP failure to contend with illegals will cost them next year.  Basically, 3 things will cost any GOP candidate next year: #1 – the GOP is the “war” party this time around, #2 – All the leading GOP people are either pro or unconvincingly against gay marriage and abortion,

#3 – ditto on controlling illegal immigration.

~ I am amazed that Sandy Berger got away with his theft of docs, but, that doesn’t change Libby’s guilt (if he’s guilty) nor does it change the fact that he’s a symbolic victim for generalized anger about the war.

  19. B Moe says:

Generalized?  Seems pretty focused to me.

  20. TomB says:

I am amazed that Sandy Berger got away with his theft of docs, but,

You know, I’m amazed OJ got away with decapitating his wife and killing her friend, but that guy should NOT have run that red light.

    Steve, get some perspective, STAT.

  21. steve says:

TomB: From the perspective of the prosecution, the red light run was the red light run by the murderer of Ron and Nicole.  That’s all I am saying. Read Frank Rich for the whole conspiracy.

You’re talking to a guy who thought Watergate was overblown.

  22. Pablo says:

So Libby is responsible for the war because of fussy revelations about discussions of Valerie Plame? And Fitzgerald is supposed to be avenging the war?

    Well, that’s interesting.

If you’ve ever lived in Sarasota Florida, you would know that there are a host of things 13% of the population can’t figure out.  Among them- Burger King menus and stop signs.

  25. Hello, sweetie, can you tell me what time the 5 p.m. all-you-can-eat pancake dinner begins?

  26. Another Sarasota Voter says:

A 5 pm dinner? You kids and your late night carousing!

  27. MayBee says:

I used to live there, Dan Collins!

    Are you serious?

Has it occurred to any of these Mexicans to wonder why their citizenry seem so bent on escape? And do they plan to do anything about that?
