Soul Brother [Meg Q]

The Isaiah Washington apology tour continues:

“I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I’ve asked for help.

“I know the power of words, especially those that demean,” the statement continued. “I realize that by using one filled with disrespect I have hurt more than T. R. and my colleagues. With one word, I’ve hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted.” [my emphasis]

Washington also said that “I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I’ve opened.” Well, he’ll get his chance: According to the article, Neil Giuliano, the president of GLAAD, will be going to LA later this week to meet with Washington and with ABC execs.

Which brings me to the question in the back of my mind: When you sin against the gay community, who is the Jesse Jackson figure to whom you must do obeisance and seek forgiveness from? I would have thought Ellen. But maybe whoever the current president of GLAAD is, is the right person. Ideas?

St. Andrew.  Only Andrew can shrive you.

If we’re speaking from a religious standpoint, I’d have to say Judy Garland.

  4. Neil says:

Rosie’s gotta be in the lineup somewhere.  Perhaps reserved for those who are extra naughty.

Somebody pour Isaiah a bowl of this here.

There is no God but Judy, and Liza is her prophetess.

    And Cher. Don’t forget Cher.

  7. Just about any Anglican bishop, would be my suggestion.

I can think of a few:

    Richard Simmons

    Andy Dick

    The Queer-Eye dudes

And of course, Joan Rivers.  C’mon, don’t pretend like you think she’s actually a woman.

  9. Burt TC says:

Not that I really care, but why is it nobody is quoting the guy?  I suppose there is only one word he could have used that would have everyone so upset, the “f” word.  I mean, I’m assuming he didn’t call the little fairy a “fudgepacker” or anything similar, so I’m referring to the three-letter “f” word.

Is it really worth this much uproar?

  10. Pablo says:

Burt, you’re not supposed to use the word “faggot” unless you’re gay.

    Oops.

    Putney Swope? Is that right?

Eleanor Roosevelt?  Janet Reno?  Catherine MacKibbon?  That onetime culture-hero(ine) who said that heterosexual groping always is rape?  (Does anyone remember her name?) Anybody at theNew York Times?

Now you know who runs Hollywood.

    Aaaahahahahahaha!!!

  15. Sticky B says:

Your observation is similar to the point I was fenda make Mr. Schwartz. This may be a watershed moment in the victim-based political clout of the African-American community. To paraphrase Mr. Orwell, All victims are equal but some victims are more equal than others. From this point forward quite possibly GLBTs outvictim Af-Ams in the left’s hierarchy and are thus exempt from any criticism even from a fellow victim.

I think Boys in the Hall ought to do it.  No need for the heavyweights like Rosie.

This reminds me of a funny story.  Walking downtown with a friend of mine, we overheard these two black guys arguing.  The one guy called the other guy, “a lying gay faggot nigger”.  My friend and I both looked at each other and wondered what the racial and gender pimps could say about that one if they had heard it.  Would it be gay on black crime or black on gay crime or gay black on black gay crime?  The double usage of the sexual orientation slur was nice, but to back that up with the mac daddy of racial slurs showed some great “chutzpah” on guy number two’s part.  We didn’t really care what the hell guy number one was lying about, but man was he in for it from guy number two.

  18. me says:

    a lying gay faggot nigger

Is a gay faggot actually straight? Or just doubly gay?

Redundancy would be what I’d call it.  Just don’t call the statement a “double negative” unless you want the PC police after you.

  20. Austin Mike says:

To what god does one pray for forgiveness for transgressions against gayness?  Not an earthly one, because they are all false gods.  I’d suggest one go with the elephant-headed Ganesh of Hinduism.  Why him? Why not? His statues are cool looking.  Also, because Allah the merciful would decree that his followers stone your gas ass if you begged forgiveness from him, that’s why!

  21. Mikey NTH says:

He didn’t rank high enough up on the victim scale to say that and get away with it.

If they can make mint-flavored Hot Tamales, anything is possible.

Nah, Ellen seems too level-headed for this nonsense.

  24. Bill D. Cat says:

    Meg ,

Scott Thompson probably needs the work , and he likely isn’t bothered by this levelheaded crap .
