Senator Tim Johnson from South Dakota has, as you’re certainly aware, suffered a stroke and is in critical condition following brain surgery. The Captain commits an act of gross class by being one of the first bloggers to say what ought to be said:
But just as important as what the Captain says is what he doesn’t say, such as, “We can make him better than he was before.” “Better?” “Smarter, more conservative.” Or, “His first words when he came out of anaesthesia were, “I’m still not as dumb as Robert Byrd.”
However, there are idiots everywhere, including Pam Spaulding at Pandagon, whose first thought is:
Senate in the balance? Dem senator reportedly has stroke
or Kangaroo Brisbane at ReBelle Nation:
Ohhhhhhhh Shit Shit Shit, This cant be happening, can it?
Who adds, to news that a spokesperson said yesterday that it wasn’t a stroke:
Good Man, don’t you scare the shit out of me like that again, we just finally got rid of the wankers.
Conspiracy theorists are already on the case, and soon we’ll be hearing whispers about Polonium-210.
John at Wuzzadem had the story before I did, and thought pretty much the same. In fact, I probably stole it from him.

This is from the crowd that still believe that 9-11 was a set-up, so it’s really not even worth noting…….but I do find it sad that the far left can’t seem to approach this as human beings. I hate seeing something like this turned into a political circus. As far as this neo-con goes I wish Tim Johnson a quick and speedy recovery.
my bad
From the sounds of things, he’ll probably be OK. You can expect anyone coming out of brain surgery to be listed as critical for at least a couple of days until everything settles down in a peaceful, complication free fashion.
Apparently he had an AVM which, if it doesn’t kill you right up front, is highly survivable and probably didn’t do too much damage. That he had a top notch team get to him in a hurry is also a very favorable predictor.
These conspiracy theorists give new meaning to the term “moronblogger”. I’d hope they’d be ashamed of themselves, but you really can’t expect that from people who have no shame.
Didn’t we kill Paul Wellstone too?
I can’t keep track of the wheels-within-wheels plots anymore…..
If Republicans were going to kill a Dem senator, he’s at the bottom of the list. His voting record’s not all that bad for a Dem. So it’s clearly the Mossad.
Rove missed and killed Peter Boyle and Lamar Hunt. At least, that’s the way I hear it.
I heard Cheney pulled the trigger, Jeff.
NPR made the point this morning that there’s PLENTY of precedent for just propping the stroke victims up in a cozy corning of the Senate chamber. NPR is a truly creepy invention.
The stupid prats! They were supposed to make Ted Kennedy have a heart attack!
Several years ago here in Georgia, there was a similar scenario. Republican senator Paul Coverdale died, and Democratic governor Roy Barnes appointed a Democrat to take his place. The replacement was former Georgia governor Zell Miller, the last hawk in the Democratic Party, so there wasn’t any real harm done.
Turing = ill
I don’t think that’s possible.
Truedat. You cannot attack what does not exist.
TW: At least not directly24
Pete Wilson was wheeled in on a gurney (not a stroke, IIRC, but something that had him laid up for some time) for some vote or other. Bob Dole made a joke about it that got used in a campaign by whoever Wilson was running against—for governor, I think.
