That wacky Angel Gabriel must be at it again.

    – So her door swings both ways….Whats the big deal….Bi’s are a hot comodity. BTW is “rank tail” a note from Edwards VPres. debate script?

  2. Pablo says:

Oooooooohhh! She’ll feel all warm and fuzzy now, like her life is totally complete! This is even better than getting a puppy!

But for the kid? Not so much.

Well-educated, professional Mary Cheney is flying in the face of the accumulated wisdom of the top experts who agree that the very best family structure for a child’s well-being is a married mom and dad family. Her child will have all the material advantages it will need, but it will still encounter the emotional devastation common to children without fathers.

One Georgia high school principal reported, “We have too many young men and women from single-mother families that don’t have the role models at home to teach them how to deal with adversity and handle responsibility. They’ve seen their mom work 60 hours a week just to put food on the table; they end up fending for themselves.”

When fatherless children get to be teens, the girls tend to start looking for love in all the wrong places and the boys tend to find as their role model the bad-boy celebrities of MTV, NFL and NBA.

As they grow older, fatherless children tend to have trouble dealing with male authority figures. Too often children in single-mother households end up angry at their absent fathers and resentful of the mother who has had to be a father figure, too. Typically, the boys who have a love-hate relationship with their mother end up hating all women. Numerous of them look for vulnerable women where they can act out their anger and be in control.

If it’s a boy, which Mommy will teach it to be a man? And if it’s a girl, which lesbian is going to teach it how to relate with men?

    BBh–

No big deal.  I just thought the headline was funny.  This poster seems to think that it’s a big enough deal to write that it shouldn’t be a big deal, though.

  4. Dan Collins says:

Pablo disagrees, and I have some sympathy for his POV, but still, a stable couple is, to my mind, a much better situation than a single mom.

  5. Pablo says:

Dan, on the continuum, sure it is. And getting one leg chewed off by an alligator off is better than getting two legs chewed off by an alligator, which is still better than getting two legs and an arm chewed off. But remaining intact is best, and why even have kids if you’re not planning from the start to put them in the best situation possible? One word: Selfishness.

And speaking of which, what if the “partner” begins to feel herself being squeezed out of Mary’s attentions in favor of a kid that she’s got no biological imperative to care for? Then where is the kid? Single mom, no male role model, etc…

Everyone’s choice is not just as good as everyone else’s. For The Children™, that is.

  6. Gray says:

Awwwww…..  What a cute little turkey baster!

He’s got his dad’s rubbery bulb.

  7. Robert Schwartz says:

    Nah, she is not Jewish.

  8. Big Bang hunter says:

    – Hmmmmm… “Religious Conservatives Hate Dick Cheney’s Daughter”…See what you mean Dan. SecProggs certainly have a rich imagination. Hopeful almost.

    – Wonder how long it would take Kerry or Edwards to have a nervous breakdown if it turns out their daughters are Gay. All that tolorance has a heavy down side when it’s you “bunny” that’s getting “Gored”.

I definately celebrate the birth of any child and two people of the same-sex loving one another dearly but when I hear announcements like this I wonder where is the Sperm.

Words have meaning and on a semantic level, even with all of the technology available there is no such thing as gay parents.  Love doesn’t make a baby, sperm and egg do.

  10. Percy Dovetonsils says:

I was amused by the news crawl on our local 24 hour newschannel (CLTV in Chicago):

    “Cheney’s lesbian daughter pregnant”

I’m guessing this is the media’s “IT ABOUT THE HYPOCRISY!” spin on this: “evil Repubs against gay adoption and ‘non-traditional’ families, and here’s Cheney’s rugmunchin’ offspring reproducing.”

Which makes me wonder:  if/when Chelsea gets pregnant, are we then allowed to shout about the hypocrisy if she doesn’t get an abortion?

No?  Huh, funny how that works.

  11. Carin says:

Funny, I don’t ever remember ever seeing “Cheney’s Hetrosexual (except-that-one-time-in-college) daughter pregnant” on the news scroll.

For that matter, should we start announcing positions used during the conception?

Do you know what you’re having?

I think it’s a puppy, because we did it doggie style.

(I did use that joke once – but in my defense, being pregnant 5 times in 6 years, you do get a bit bored of the question.)

  12. Captain Holly says:

Does this have anything to do with that ”Paris Hilton wants a baby” story from yesterday?

Hmmm.  Paris Hilton…Mary Cheney.  The mind boggles.

    And reels.

  13. Lucille Bluth says:

They made her in a cup! Like soup!

  14. Scape-Goat Trainee says:

I love how some news reports say the “couple is expecting”.

No. Mary Cheney is expecting. Her Partner is just hanging out since she had absolutely nothing to do with it.

  15. Pablo says:

Come on, SGT! Squeezing the baster is exactly like being a father!

    SEXIST!!!

  16. Pablo says:

It just occurred to me that I could make a killing if I invented a strap on baster. Don’t nobody steal my idea!

  17. Themistocles says:

Pablo, hope you’ve got a drink going, ‘cause this’ll give you the perfect spit take.

Seriously, it’s an unusually happy day in what must be a pretty tough go of things for Mary and her pal.

    Wish ‘em the best, man.

  18. kate q says:

Jeez. I think the kid will have a pretty good male role model, no? A father is best, but a grandpa like that might make up for a bit.

And hey, she’s doing her part in the Demography Wars.

  19. Pablo says:

    Wish ‘em the best, man.

Of course, being that it is what it is, and what’s done is done. Now the kid in the video, has a different deal. Odds are, he got an upgrade from his previous situation. The sing along is what really frightens me.

kate, do you think old Dead Eye Dick is going to be child rearing?

  20. Rusty says:

Kids are pretty malleable things. I know it’s cliche, but as long as they get a lot of attention and love they usually turn out OK.

The truly hateful thing is that the MSM, because Dick Cheney is conservative, somehow think this is newsworthy.
