There are a lot of hysterical e-mails going around about a company called Zabasearch that supposedly has all your personal info in one place. If you get one, ignore it. Zabasearch does exist, but they don’t compile or store the info. It’s a search engine that gets the info from public sources, and a lot of it is outdated or incorrect or irrelevant. And it costs $20 to see it! Also, Jeff tells me that you get an e-mail notification if someone does a Zaba search on you. They do not have your SS#, but so what? Everyone else does.
Here’s the Snopes link.

Yeah. If you run a site like this, you’d be astounded at the amount of people who are interested in more than what’s on your bio page.
I got tons of notifications during my dustup with “Thersites” (Dr Andrew Haggerty, writing instructor at some community college who practices literary theory about as well as Murtha practices foreign policy).
Presumably somebody was looking to send me flowers. For the healing.
Oops, sorry, that was me. My bad.
It’s not stalking unless, you know, I leave the house to do it.
Strange, I’ve used Zaba to dig up my own old addresses for credit apps, background checks and such, I’ve never been notified by them – or is that only when you select a fee based option?
Dunno.
I think it only happens when you do a search on somebody else.
I’ve never used Zaba. But the alerts told me somebody was doing a Zaba search on me.
Here’s a sample email:
You can set up a Zaba Alert on any name. It will email you when that name gets searched for.
