And Now, for Something that Doesn’t Suck [Dan Collins]

Check out the new PowerLine News.  Clean lines.  Beauty.  My friend Joe Malchow, when he wasn’t being instrumental in getting the proposed anti-democratic revisions to the Dartmouth Constitution shot down, played a major role in getting this together.  In my view, it’s best in show.  Probably save you guys some time in the morning, as well.

The revision to the Dartmouth Constitution is an interesting study in the use of language.

    From the Dartmouth News

The Dartmouth College Board of Trustees has voted to endorse the proposed new Alumni Association constitution. The trustees approved a motion supporting the new constitution’s approach to “a more representative alumni governance structure, better communication channels with the trustees and College administration, a fair trustee nomination process, and modernized voting methods for election of (Alumni) Association officers and representatives.”

The false perception projected by the Dartmouth power structure stands in stark contrast to the reality of what was really afoot.

Item: Mr. Daukas carefully plucked several provisions out of context to create the impression that the proposed constitution would enlarge, not diminish, the role of the alumni in college governance. I invite readers to peruse the document for themselves, noting in particular that instead of mandating two-person trustee races — a provision that appears nowhere — it would allow a nominating committee to set the field of candidates just as it wished. Q.E.D.

Up is down in the perceptual reality of the reality based community.

Couldn’t agree with you more, Terry.  I’ve still got some hate mail to wade through in my alumni email account, for not realizing how wonderful that would have been for us all.
