Ground Control to Major John [Dan Collins]

Ground control to Major John,

Wash your cheese fries down with Chimay if you want.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Please take a moment to send an e-card to a paralyzed vet from your home state.

And don’t forget to respond, if you can, to this worthwhile bleg, which has scandalously reaped not even one comment.

There’s also Operation Gratitude.  Your donation can help for Thanksgiving, when grateful people express gratitude for what they have, rather than whine about what they haven’t.

Project Valour-IT. Chuck Zeigenfuss is leaving the House of Murtha.

h/t Holly at MVRWC.

Major John–your suggestions on how to help?

I sent a donation, Dan.  I just didn’t see the need to advertise it, is all.

Folks may have noticed the Canadian uniforms.

The artist is Terry Kelly. Here’s the story behind the song.

On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly was in a Shoppers Drug Mart store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the store’s PA asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.

Terry was impressed with the store’s leadership role in adopting the Legion’s “two minutes of silence” initiative. He felt that the store’s contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable.

When eleven o’clock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the “two minutes of silence” to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect.

Terry’s anger towards the father for trying to engage the store’s clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, “A Pittance of Time”.

Somebody sent me a copy of the video at work in honor of Veteran’s Day… just felt like sharing it.  smile

In honor of all of our vets….

We are forever in your debt.

My answer in two words…. “Fisher House”.  Please help them if you are able.

If not, find a vet and thank ‘em.  THe WWII guys shan’t be with us too much longer, the Korean War guys really got the first short shrift, and the Viet Nam guys got it worse.  Just give ‘em a rhetorical pat on the back, please.
