Sure, our enemies are laughing at us—but hell, at least we had the moral highground.
Until that asshole Bush came along and muddied the waters with all his neocon warmongering. Now, not only will Iran get nukes (and likely use them), but we don’t even get to claim we stood astride history yelling “peace, my Muslim brothers” right up until the moment the immense flash and the glorious, purifying fire of Allah provides us with a moment of frozen clarity.
And if we don’t live to see Iran go nuclear while we refused to act to prevent it, well, then the terrorists will have already won—something I know to be a fact because Maureen Dowd whispered it in my ear while she was drunk on Bud drafts and trying to slip a dollar bill down my pants at a Mets exhibition game.

update: …As if on cue, here’s John Kerry, reiterating the global test he denied advocating for. Which, if I have this correct, means he was for it before he was against it before he was for it. And that, mathematically speaking, makes him…what, a transnational progressivist? An ass…?
Math was never really my strong suit. (h/t Allah)

What is is about the fruits of appeasement that is so hard for pacifist/liberals to understand? Is there a gene that prevents a fairly thick slice of any given population from understanding the lessons of history? Is one of the unfortuneate handicapps of living in a prosperous, free society that significant numbers of people will become detached from reality?
Well, that’s highly disconcerting yet cynically quite useful–the man’s bluntness, I mean.
Nukes? What nukes?
While I realize Tel Aviv is the most likely target for The Bomb of Islam, I think New York City is the most fair-minded choice. I mean, it’s got lots of Jews and Liberals, so everybody wins!
Sticky B,
As Penn and Teller say, “Everybody got a gris gris.” For a lot of people, the gris gris is the idea that peace, love and understanding will win out in the end.
Iran is sitting on more than 120 billion barrels of oil reserves and yet it insists that it needs to develop a nuclear energy program for “peaceful purposes”.
Gee, why am I not convinced?
Great, now that tune will be in my head all afternoon.
Kerry cites Kennedy as a president who understood that success requires a community of nations working together, drawing strength from shared sacrifice and steadfast commitment to our shared ideals…
Let’s see, during Kennedy’s short tenure, he invaded Cuba, blockaded Cuba and escalated our military advisor/special forces involvement in Vietnam. And he did those things, let’s say it together, unilaterally. Good example, Senator.
For a lot of people, the gris gris is the idea that peace, love and understanding will win out in the end.
I think that as well, but with a lot of strife and bloodshed on the way to that end. They seem to think that mere wishing will make it so.
Hmmm.
And don’t forget that Kennedy got cold feet and let the Cuban expatriates die on the beaches at the Bay of Pigs.
I always enjoy bringing that up when Democrats wax euphoric about Kennedy. Well that and the fact that Kennedy lost his navy command in a rather stupid way.
Aw geez, I swear Kerry has a pullstring on his back and he’s still repeating his campaign stump speeches
Ya think Kerry will take any notice that even “moderate” moslems are blaming the Danes for the cartoon riots and that what moslems consider “tolerance” consists of checking with them FIRST so one can be assured of not publishing anything blasphemous?
