People who voiced support for the war or Bush or Cheney or anything else the left opposed, did not live in fear that they’d lose their jobs to an online lynching. “Cancel culture” had not yet developed. The Tumblr contingent didn’t have the powah to do in real life what they’d only done online.

All we had back then were blog wars, but they rarely spilled into real life (she-who-must-not-be-named notwithstanding). It would be a case of an isolated creeper taking it into the meatworld. But it was not a mob.

The leftist template has changed considerably in 15 years, I’m afraid. (Holy crap 15 years!) They now have the ability to reach out and hurt their enemies. Their words aren’t blah blah blah but “Now YOU’RE toast,” leaving a smoking crater in their wake.

I don’t know how this ends. Do companies and organizations learn to ignore the mob? Does the public begin to reject the SJW aggression? Or do we get to the point where a permanent underclass of “cancelees” forms, people who’ve been written out of polite society and who must live their lives in the shadows?

This article I just read offers hope (https://www.thestranger.com/slog/2019/06/11/40452193/repent-resent-or-reinvent-how-to-survive-a-pile-on), but it also serves as a warning: the vulnerable cannot survive the lynchings.

This should not happen in America. The digital Brownshirts should be rendered powerless. But how?

  4. JHoward says:

You could update the names and places but the left wouldn’t feel any (more) shame about it.

Dystopia must happen and it shall!

Half the rightosphere pulls earnestly on leftist tropes these days, generally of an identity-projecting demeanor. Pick one of many alternatives.

Recently the right had to drop MLK like a hot potato.

  7. happyfeet says:

yes yes Mr. Howard and they used to seem genuinely skeptical of fake news

but now they lick lick lick it up

  8. JHoward says:

The left could propose a balanced budget and half the right would immediately holler that debt is the way to prosperity you communists. By now Bill Mitchell is is such a big fan of Keynes even Keynes shudders to think of it.

The right needs a serious inventory spot check.

  9. happyfeet says:

Mitt Romney has some fun ideas about a brand new obamacare plan we could do all up in it

    does that help?

Have to replace it to repeal it is the new strategy. Can’t let Nancy own any memes by herself. That wouldn’t be how this is done.

  11. Well first off, you assumed Sadam’s gender.

  12. guinspen says:

You need to update it, JG, not only for intersectionality, but because you forgot to include the LGBTQTG community.

Plus, not to forget those of us who fancy ourselves as penguins.

So, please add a TS to the end of our community monicker.

    C’mon…

    Can’t we all sing along?

What do you get when you cross intersectionality with liberal fascism? A hard-hitting and effective, powerful, social media weapon vs. conservatives that we’re just not equipped to face and counter, because we’ve ceded social media platforms to a handful of powerful LW radicals performing deplatformings: it’s truly #SanFranciscoCollusion.

They’v a new term for us: “Hate Agents”. How do we qualify for this honorific? That’s all up to their interpretation of our signals, of course.

    We are so damn doomed.

Facebook are rank amateurs. There’s Google, head and shoulders above them, data-collection-wise.

Then, if you really want to seriously collect data and “interpret signals”, so as to classify Americans into various “Hate Agent” categories?

Still, visual aids are always helpful, because there are more than I’ve ever visualized.

  24. guinspen says:

Still, for folks that claim to be artsy/creative, visually or elsewise, all their flags are ham-fisted derivatives.

  25. guinspen says:

    “Still,”

    Hat Trick!

  26. Squid says:

One hopes that some wag has already redesigned the myriad flags to show the colors with area proportionate to their representation in the general population. So, basically 99% pink or blue, with some vanishingly narrow band of other colors in the middle.

Purely from a design efficiency perspective, this would be a big improvement, since the various combinations of colors would be so condensed as to be indistinguishable, obviating the need to produce so many variants.

As such, we could market the new flags by saying they represent just how outnumbered our queer friends are, and how important it is that they stick together instead of splintering into a dozen ever-more-marginal groups.
