Wishing you a Merry Christmas! [Darleen Click]

Turkey is in the brine, the last package wrapped and under the tree (took longer than expected, what with the cats wanting to help). #2 is in the kitchen baking, the boys have helped get the house straightened up for family tomorrow (with minimal grumbling – expected from 13 year olds).

Still more food prep to do when I get the kitchen back, then looking forward to some quiet time, a Christmas movie and a glass of wine.

No Friday fiction tomorrow — indeed, I doubt much computer time at all as four generations gather under our roof to celebrate the day.

May your Christmas be one filled with joy and laughter, family and friends.

And hope. Christ’s mass is about all the hope that comes with new beginnings and we can mark His birthday with hope for the future.

I’ll leave you with this video. Yes, from last year, but still one of the best for the season.

Orson Scott Card dips into his Alvin Maker series to criticize a certain inconvenient movement.

Alvin Maker takes place in an alt-universe of early America where hexes and folk magic are real, and Alvin is a man with a gift for manipulating matter with his mind.

“This is hard on the folks downstream,” said Arthur Stuart.

“If they want water, they can build a mill and call for it to come,” said Alvin.

“It’s not their fault that they believed in a fool who called himself a scientist.”

“It’s their fault when they believe in anybody whose predictions always fail, and whose ideas violate common sense and experience. It’s their fault when they punish folks for a difference of opinion. And the lesson of not falling for every hoax that calls itself science will be worth more than what they’ll lose on their property value.”
