Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, OR, is a ‘gun-free’ campus [Darleen Click]

That worked out well now, didn’t it?

When was the last time a ‘mass-shooting’ took place at a gun show?

Prayers for the survivors, their families and the families of the victims.

  1. And before the bodies were cool, Obama was in front of a microphone hollering about gun control. Occupy Democrats posted on Facebook claiming that the shooter was a Republican–not because they have any evidence of that, but because they desperately want it to be true, and they’ll stop at nothing to get that meme out there.

    Leftists are scum.

  2. Why do you hate Scum?!?

Yeah. The targeting of Christians sure puts a kink in teh narratif.

  4. Darleen says:

the dead-burning-in-hell murderer self-identified on some board as “republican” but also hated religion, mixed-race, had no & wanted no kids.

He was also involved in the theater department of the college

“Evil” is the narrative — not really anything else.

  5. I don’t hate scum. I pity scum.

  6. LBascom says:

I have a common sense gun control law for our asshole in chief. Every HS senior must have a semester in gun handling and be able to put six rounds through a three inch target at twenty paces to graduate. Carry is mandatory for all adult legal citizens until the age of forty. Exceptions only for the mentally ill and/or those convicted of a felony gun crime. Gun free zones outlawed including around the president.

How about them apples president A-Hole?

  7. That’s President SCUM, if you please!

Makes a handy-dandy deflection from the ongoing on-set of world war in the Middle East. ClownDeceptor knows from deflections: he’s been practicing for over seven years now.

  9. Ernst Schreiber says:

IF this CNN report cited by Jim Geraghty this morning turns out to be accurate, UCC would also seem to be a virtus-free zone as well.

I guess the NYT is going to have to add a 28th way to their list of ways to be a modern (Times)man.

  10. Ernst Schreiber says:

    Lee, that’s just not reasonable!

There should be a concientious objector exemption for sitzpinklers.

I’m also willing to tolerate gun free zones if the entity demanding their zone be gun free is strictly liable for any and all harm.

48-hour rule, which I violated on Twitter.

I was arguing with some chick whose initial volley was to snark about “where were all these ‘good guys’ with guns to stop this?”

    “It was a gun-free zone” I replied.

One of her allies responded that Oregon law prohibits a campus from being an actual, official gun-free zone. I don’t know whether that’s true.

Then out came an interview with a retired vet who had been there but was not allowed to confront the shooter.

“The good guys were there but weren’t allowed to engage the shooter because the administrators were in their usual CYA mode,” I tried next.

Now this morning there’s word that another vet actually had engaged the shooter and took seven bullets (broke both legs but no vital organs hit).

But if they’re busy getting their memes out, we can’t sit and wait three news cycles before refuting them.

    Geez, I hate people.

Speaking of commenting out your ass, Rush Limbaugh can be a real jerk sometimes.

Responding to this article in the NY Post about a woman with body integrity identity disorder (BIID) who made herself blind, he said, “I’ve never heard of that before,” then proceeded to berate the NYP for glorifying this woman’s path to happiness, ASSerting that it will encourage other unstable, unhappy folks to maim themselves in an attempt to make themselves happy.

    (a) If you have no previous experience with something, Rush, why the hell are you opining on it? Are you determined to

    (b) BIID isn’t psychological in the least: it’s 100% in the brain. (I’d never heard of someone with BIID wanting to lose a sense: usually they want to chop off a limb.)

The condition is the result of a tiny part of the brain not functioning properly: it’s the part that recognizes body parts (and I guess senses) as “self” or “belonging to me.” The people with this condition know intellectually (with their frontal lobes) that their limb is theirs but the lower part of the brain insists that it’s alien.

There is no way to override that part of the brain using the frontal lobes, for the same reason you can’t fix broken hardware by running good software on it. The only cure for someone with BIID would be to pinpoint that tiny little portion of the brain and fix it.

We don’t have that technology, so BIID sufferers find ways to hack off that limb or, in the case of this woman, destroy the offending sense.

And they feel better! They finally get peace!

It’s creepy as hell, but what else are you gonna do if your brain won’t stop yelling at you about the alien limb? Lapse into a coma?

WHICH MEANS, also, that only people with that specific bit of brain damage will find peace in cutting off the limb: emos and disordered personalities will not, and furthermore, people with psychological problems aren’t going to be tempted to cut off an arm or drop lye into their eyes.

So thanks for propagating Yet Another Misleading Tidbit on mental illness, Rush. We all needed that.

  14. dicentra says:

OK, I got distracted and failed to complete the sentence “Are you determined to…”

    “…prove this chart right?”

  15. LBascom says:

A tomatoe is a fruit. That is knowledge.

Not putting a tomatoe in a fruit salad is wisdom.

  16. Darleen says:

people with psychological problems aren’t going to be tempted to cut off an arm or drop lye into their eyes –

and yet we see overlap with the people who profess to want to radically modify, or remove, their primary and secondary sex organs, while maintaining biological sex is a “social construct.”

  17. Darleen says:

leave it to Mandy Marcotte to take the “Constitution was written over 200 years ago by SLAVEHOLDERS” argumentative style to justify MORE GUN confiscation CONTROL

  18. bgbear says:

Rush may deserve some criticism here but, the NYP didn’t exactly describe the nature nature of BIID either. Seems to me the NYP is inviting this kind of (misguided) criticism if they do not even link to a description of the disorder.

  19. McGehee says:

Premise: the media get things wrong all the time on matters on which we know enough to catch them getting it wrong.

Premise: the media do this at one point or another to everyone’s field of expertise, not just your own.

Conclusion: the media get everything wrong.

Looked at that way, it’s kind of difficult to sustain the outrage over any one thing they get wrong.

  20. bgbear says:

A “friend” who was a photojournalist assured me that all you have to do is write to the journalist your concern and they will be happy to take your “corrections” into consideration. It is our duty to help them tell the truth.

  21. Ernst Schreiber says:

    Interesting take by Milo Yiannopoulos:

Denying essential human nature — that men can be powerful and dangerous and this should be harnessed for good — is a recipe for tragedy. This is why some of us rail against feminism so much. We don’t hate women. We don’t care about “manspreading.” We care about this.

Underemployed, disrespected and frustrated men drive terrorism, mass shootings, gang warfare, you name it. But railing against guys for “toxic masculinity” clearly hasn’t worked. So why not try something new? Why not celebrate what makes men unique instead of trying to turn boys into girls? Why not harness that power and set men back to work? To make America great again, we need to rescue our lost generation of young males.

Ignore the gender warriors. To me, what shootings like this should tell us is that men need to be celebrated more, not less. Men should be honoured. [Right now, this man, in particular –E.S.] There is no progress, no civilisation without the healthy application of masculinity. Let’s get started.

  22. LBascom says:

Ernst, the trouble is in identifying ” masculinity”. I contend the “modern man” you linked in another thread is the result of a determined effort to [re]define men so as to lead them to a desire to be feminized. The illusion is equating the feminine with civilized, the masculine being [re]defined as uncivilized.

That of course is BS, but it is so ingrained now the course, crude, and aggressive is actually marketed
to us in media as a guide to manhood.

Honor, duty, and loyalty are the masculine qualities missing from our generation of men.

I blame the first weenie that wanted to ban dueling.

I know it seems that way with the Musselmen, NR, but they never have been truly Masculine which requires, as Lee states, ‘Honor, duty, and loyalty’ – Virtue.

One of many examples is the way they view Women. Reading the Koran and associated works shows that they fear women and that is why their cult places so many restrictions on women and seeks to enslave them.

A Muslim is not a Man in the spiritual sense, can never be one.

That was kind of Yiannopoulos’s point. If you insist on “problematizing” masculinity & the masculine, don’t be surprised when you see a rise in problem males.

It’s the second smartest thing I’ve seen anybody say thus far.

  26. Darleen says:

If you insist on “problematizing” masculinity & the masculine,

    Yep, we covered this before

  27. Ernst Schreiber says:

Oh this is too good! Old & Lame: white-hispanic

    New Hawtness: white-black

To be fair Ernst, Obama has a white momma and I’m pretty sure he’s a black suppremacist…

  35. McGehee says:

Thing is, they have so much about themselves to exhaust their hate on, yet they have so much left over for the innocent.

Can it be that we have not yet reached Peak Hate?

  36. sdferr says:

Hadn’t really reckoned on finding a need to say this, but Hillary Clinton does conservatives longing for a non-Boehner crony for the next House Speaker a solid. Good on ya, Hills. Hit him again while you’re at it, why don’tcha?

  37. The anger against the GOP Leadership is so high, SD, that I’m not sure this will help McCarthy with TEA Party conservatives.

SIDENOTE: What really upsets me is that the conservative opposition to the Leadership in the House is so damned disorganized. They did not have replacement candidates lined-up and ready to run for the Leadership Posts. The GOP, it seems, is The Stupid Party all the way ’round.

  38. sdferr says:

That it wouldn‘t help him (on account of exposing his hideous stupidity) was the point Bob. We see headlines which (gist at) ** McCarthy hands Hillary a “gift” **, and I say she turns right around (if unintentionally) and hands that gift right back to conservatives who want nothing to do with McCarthy, simply by making a prominent display of his ineptitude.

  39. I stand corrected!
