Two things:
1) I’m looking for a script that will allow me to display a personalized RSS feed on my sidebar (viewable in regular web browsers; I’ve seen a few of these but I have no idea how they work or how to implement them). Some examples include Bill Quick’s feed at Daily Pundit, or Ace’s feed at Ace of Spades Headquarters.
Ideas?
2) The new oversized Cafe Press “BECAUSE OF THE HYPOCRISY!” mugs are ready. I make virutally nothing off these cups, but I kinda like the slogan. So if you feel like you need a gigantic coffee mug with an obscure slogan created by a blogging nobody, have at it.
BINGO!!!!!
The hypocrisy mug sounds good, but when is the “Gay Porn Cock of Lies!” mug coming out, so to speak?…you know, to use at the office.
I was able to do the RSS thing pretty quickly using FeedDigest; I don’t know what those other sites are using, but I assume the implementation is very similar (probably using a PHP or server-side include, but you could also use a javascript call)
Let me know if and when you want to start selling the “House Negro” shirts.
his is what Daily Pundit uses: http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/carp/
Incidentally, when Maggie Katzen read about the mugs, she sat on the couch, giggled and clapped her hands with glee, very much in the manner of a 4 year old.
I’d say it’s a hit.
FeedDigest is fun–you can steal so many people’s content this way… the thing is, even writing your own RSS parser/doing an RSS -> HTML transformation for inclusion on your site is relatively simple; so long as you allow public RSS feeds, there’s little stopping some creep from snagging your content and republishing it as their own…
BECUASE OF THE CAFFEINE!
Someone had to say it.
Maybe that someone could’ve spelled it better, though.
OK, nobody laugh at me:
What in the world are those RSS feed thingies for, anyway? What does that little button that says RSS mean? What am I supposed to do when I see it???
I love the mugs. They are the perfect size for that first cup of coffee in the morning.

This should tell you what you want to know.
Thank you Farmer Joe.
Alas, I am an idiot. I used to know computery stuff, but that was back in the days of COBOL, Lotus, and the Hayes Smart Modem.
BECAUSE IT COSTS $14.99 + S/H!!!
TW: “thats” a lotta dough for something I normally just steal from my coworkers.
The latest version of Expression Engine, v1.4.1, has the Magpie RSS Parser plug-in included. That may be what you want.
I second the need for the GAY PORN COCK OF LIES!! mug.
tw: “there’s” no way than can fire me now. Oh. Damn.
I’ve used Magpie before – it does require a bit of custom coding, but it’s really not much harder than slapping together a weblog template. It takes about 10-20 lines of code to implement, but it’s pretty easy code.
I thought Ace just waited for Allah to send him the headline in an e-mail.
How about small plastic wind-up Dancing Armadillos? We’re talkin’ GOLDMINE here!
I’m just sayin’…
SB: points
wear a hat
Oh, sure. You gonna pay up front for that? ‘Cause I’m sure as hell not.
TW: “Position”. As in “Assume the.”
I looked at CARP, the Daily Pundit feed roll, but I didn’t want the hassle with it since I use Typepad. Now I’m testing FEED DIGEST, which seems to work very well. It allows five digests with 5 feeds per digest, although right now I’m only using one per each. There are several prebuilt templates or you can used advanced features to customize. The cost to upgrade is next to nothing, but they do say that paying customers get faster feed updates. I’m using the free version during my test, but will probably upgrade one or two levels if the test goes okay. I’ll probably play around with colors and layout some more, but you can check it out under “Expanded Blog Watch” in the left sidebar of http://www.squiggler.com
What “gigantic coffee mugs? I’m a shopkeeper there and the biggest I have are but 1/3 the size of the stein. I’ve only seen 2 mug sizes in CP. Help me here, I’d sell a bunch of ‘em! Are you in associate program? Conservative program? I am at my shop:
“Frankly Opinionated”
