Charlie Hebdo says it has “done enough” for free speech [Darleen Click]

… and will no longer draw Mohammed (PissBeUponHim)

Six months after armed Islamists stormed Charlie Hebdo’s offices in downtown Paris, killing 12, editor Laurent Sourisseau said the publication would no longer draw Islam’s prophet in an interview with German magazine Stern.

“We have drawn Muhammad to defend the principle that one can draw whatever they want. It is a bit strange though we are expected to exercise a freedom of expression that no one dares to,” Sourisseau told Stern, as reported by Deutsche Welle. “We’ve done our job. We have defended the right to caricature.”

Does this mean Charlie Hebdo will also cease their mocking of Jews and Christians?

Well, no …

In the interview with Stern, Sourisseau said Charlie Hebdo employees still believe they “have the right to criticize all religions,” Deutsche Welle reported.

Ah! Well, now, nothing like rewarding the Assassin’s Veto.

  2. cranky-d says:

So, is Islam no longer a religion? Or is it the official state religion, and as such, beyond mockery?

  3. dicentra says:

Given that nobody’s got their backs, I can’t say I blame them.

They’ve earned the right to fall silent.

    Nobody else has.

  7. dicentra says:

Seriously, they’ve done their part for free speech: paid in blood.

    They get to opt out.

But only they. The rest are effing cowards.

  8. No one gets to opt-out, except on a temporary basis in order to regain strength and to regroup.

You cannot win a War any other way.

  9. I understand your view, di, but I think Bob is right. The enemy in this case won’t allow someone to opt out.

War to the knife, knife to the hilt.

  10. sdferr says:

There is another potential way to look at the Charlie thing: the people who died in the jihadist murders were Charlie Hebdo, the people who pretend to be Charlie Hebdo now are imposters.

  11. Mind, I’m in no position to bitch about their choice. I can’t comprehend what they have gone through.

The enemy’s implacable hatred for the west is reality, though. We will always be at war with barbarians such as they.

  12. bgbear says:

They won’t draw Mohammed but, will they mock Islamic individuals or groups?

  13. dicentra says:

in order to regain strength and to regroup

    Where will they get that?

    Nobody has their back.

  14. Ernst Schreiber says:

I don’t blame Charlie Hebdo one bit. This is Akin to Mel Gibson’s William Wallace shreiking, they may take our lives, but they’ll never take OUR FREEDOM!

Only to turn around and find that the rest of the Scots decided to go home.
