Happy Father’s Day [Darleen Click]

To all men who embrace the role of Dad — the obligations, sacrifices, and joys — please know that we are grateful more than just one day a year. Some day you may get to be an honored Grandpa, a role tilted more towards the fun side of children.

Dad taught me how to throw a punch, hammer a nail and read a newspaper. He was an advertising exec during the 60s & 70s and taught me how to analyze ads. He encouraged my reading, writing and artwork. It was difficult to get him to fire his last clients and retire, but he’s now glad he has because it has given him more time to enjoy those things he loves without feeling rushed.

Earlier, Ernst reminded me of a book of my childhood, one I used to beg my grandpa to read to me whenever my sister and I stayed with my grandparents. When we were little – and my parents’ entertainment budget was thin – we got to spend a weekend every month or so with my maternal grandparents so my parents would have the house for just the two of them.

Grandpa was a great storyteller and read books to us with a lot of animation and emotion. The Biography of a Grizzly had been read to him as a boy and it became of of my treasured favorites. I’ve scanned a few pics of the book.

Please share your favorite memories. And if you’re a Dad, thank you! For all the memories you have made and for all the ones you will make.
