Yesterday was the 40th anniversary of the fall of Saigon.
What is either forgotten, or deliberately lied about is that Nixon actually won the war with the signing of the Paris Peace Accords … only to have Democrats hand South Vietnam over to the communists.
Betrayal? Surely not! Just ask America’s greatest ally the Islamic Republic of Iran how pleased they are with the steadfastness of America’s trust in them. Everything they ask, they receive. A better ally they’ll never find.

Greetings:
Having taken one of those all expense paid tours of somewhat sunny Southeast Asia back in the very late ’60s, I had to watch the “Last Days in Vietnam” documentary on the local Progressive (née Public) Broadcasting System affiliate with a tight control of my emotometer. Surprisingly, while I certainly can’t say I enjoyed it, the obvious infamy precluded that, I did find it interesting and worthwhile.
It was nice to see a bit of those Americans who refused to be overwhelmed either by circumstances or their fellow government employees. Any film that teaches the importance of the folk wisdom of “It’s easier to apologize than it is to get permission.” deserves both promulgation and preservation.
Unfortunately, and most likely for geographical reasons, the “Montanyards” didn’t get any mention. Our company had two “Kit Carson Scouts” who didn’t like the “yellow” Vietnamese on either side very much and expected much the same in return so when the day was done and the sun was gone, I fetched a cup of kindness for two good men who deserved so much better.
