Another moment of unabashed pragmatism

Sure, I could write a post on Bahraini feminists, or the destructive sense of entitlement we’ve instilled in our moronic kids—but then, I could head to Best Buy and burn the cash I have left on my gift card, instead.

And be honest now.  What would you do?

update:  spent way too much on noir DVDs.  If any of you were planning on hitting my tip jar anytime soon, now might be a good time…

Or else just say a prayer for me or some such.

Man, that Barhraini chick has some BALLS.  American feminists think they are being brave when they bare their (hideous) breasts at a war protest.  I tell ya, the brave ones are those who have to see it. But anyway …

Best Buy?  I could use the new Serenity DVD so you know what I’d do.

  2. Boss429 says:

If you go ahead and blow all your cash at Best Buy all your kids will be entitled to is a job at the Bahia marina in O.C., Md chopping bait, thus earning wages and paying for what they feel their entitled to….chopping bait builds character!

  3. APF says:

I can’t believe this!  Are you really asking your readers if they would “do” a brainy feminist?  Of course you’d *never* ask if we’d do a brainy meninist… I mean… menonite… manitoba… manowar… uh…

    SEXIST!!!

  4. “Let’s not go into details,” said the interviewer.

    Indeed.

  5. Salt Lick says:

I went along with the Star of David thing when they did it at my school, but I drew the line at the plastic noses.

    I’m just saying…

  6. GM R0per says:

Now, where did I put my Best Buy Gift Card, the one that still has a C note on it?

    smile

  7. wishbone says:

In the first story:  This is what happens when all that peaceful, great tradition part of Islam is discussed.  Am I missing something?  Apart from the pedophilia, I mean.

In the second:  This is what happens when 13 year olds engage in deep thinking and thereby miss the point entirely.  Yeah, that “privileged” Jewish position worked out so well in the camps, you little idiot.  We should make exceptions under the child labor laws in cases like this.

As for Best Buy:  Sid Meier’s Cevlization IV is just as addictive as the first three installments.

  8. Wind Rider says:

    Oh, man –

link 1 – tell it ALL sister!

link 2 – gotta love the resolute, firm, ‘well, everybody is right’ principled principal.

BB card – speaking of resolute, firm…well, it’s BB, but you can probably find SOMETHING to take your mind off of ‘Pleasure from sexual contact with her thighs.’ Where everybody wins.

  9. Tom M says:

The girls from NH don’t get it. The Woman from Bahrain does.

Best buy? get whatever the heck you can afford (and maybe just a wee bit more).

    Carin,

The Serenity DVD kicks a**. Don’t have the wee ones around during the outtakes, though.

  10. Lew Clark says:

Which Best Buy’s are the feminist terrorists from Bahrain trying to blow up?

  11. Carin says:

Tom, your KILLING me. I’m trying to save “Serenity” for when I have some down-time in January.  If you egg me on, I won’t be able to wait.

  12. Boner of Zion says:

    Re: Samantha in the story—

You can’t expect a contrary-minded kid to think much differently, given how hard the idea of sanctity-via-victimhood has been pounded into her re: every other political and historical event ever.

Even when I was in school, our official Holocaust narrative was 90% Anne Frank, 10% the Hitler’s missing ball song from A Separate Peace, 0% Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Wrong message.

The kid’s not “missing the point.” She’s blowback.

    Not good.

  13. Tom M says:

    Carin,

no, really, it sucks out loud. That’s actually what I meant when I typed that. Also when I type this: for the life of me I can’t understand Firefly and John Doe both disappearing so fast from the Fox lineup.

You should wait. It sucks that good.

  14. rws says:

ya want feminists, I’ll give ya feminists.

    feminists

  15. me says:

Or else just say a prayer for me or some such.

Any particular prayer? Any particular result you’re hoping for?

Anyway. How about a prayer asking for a cure for your DVD habit?

  16. angler says:

Well, one thing’s for sure: that Bahrain chick doesn’t placate.

Jeff, it’s probably wrong to condition one’s prayer on another’s, but I’ll pray for your DVD-induced-financial condition if you’ll pray for the Broncos to beat the Chargers, and (which may require a more fervent prayer) for the Lions to beat the Steelers.

  17. rls says:

    angler,

I’ll take my chances on the Broncos doing the Chargers straight up, no prayer.  Ummmm…however, the Lions over the Steelers is gonna take more prayers than I fear can be mustered from these humble digs.  Thoug stranger things have happened.

Then, of course, the Chiefs must beat the Bengals.

  18. angler says:

    rls,

I fear you are right.  But never misunderestimate the power of irrational hope.  Then again, were such prayers to be answered, I dread the Chief’s “one-and-out” finale.

    Happy New Year to all.

  19. Carin says:

Tom- Well whew. I only have two more Firefly episodes left, and I’m doling them out as slow as I can.

I think I’m going to need some support in a few days.

  20. Tom M says:

    rws 6:42:

“I made a dream come true, and I am not a pervert,” she stressed.

The absolute necessity of combining those two sentences together is telling.

Wonder how the Marina PR Dept. is gonna top that?

Intentional oxymoron here: It may ressurect a whole new kind of Reality show.

  21. Tom M says:

Okay, one sentence two thoughts. I’m off to hell now.

    Carin,

I haven’t seen the whole series (hence answering my previous question), but the movie explains the Reavers.

  22. TD says:

Empathy can’t be taught by wearing a symbol when you’ve got nothing at risk.  The history is brutal enough.  If there is no empapthy felt just from the factual history of the whole sordid time, it ain’t gonna get learned from some pointed yellow construction paper…

  23. Stephen_M says:

for the life of me I can’t understand Firefly and John Doe both disappearing so fast from the Fox lineup.

Probably get tsk-tsked for this but why in hell did Fox kill Keen Eddie so quickly? Mmmm – Sienna Miller. And I’m convinced David E. Kelley gave Mark Valley a job on Boston Legal just to de-nut the Det. Eddie Arlette character, head off the chance Mark Valley might be cast in similar roles, and to take a swipe at FOX. Jeez, Brad Chase on BL is Eddie Arlette with a nut-ectomy and partial lobotomy. And yes, David E. Kelley is television’s Nurse Mildred Ratched.

  24. Muslihoon says:

In case anyone would like a visual response to the second issue, I highly recommend this video at YouTube. Very moving. A short (5 minutes, 47 second) silent video.

I think it should be mandatory viewing in all schools.

TW: amount. No amount of t’shuva can erase the sin of complicity for those who could have done something; and none can erase the sin of genocide. May G-d have mercy on us; may He steer us away from lethal hatred and abuse of power.

  25. Jonathan Dick says:

Jeff, A short stint with with netflix or GreenCine rental program might help you shake the dvd purchase monkey on your back.

Here’s a short primer on film noir from GreenCine that I found helpful as it pointed me to films and directors I hadn’t heard of before that you might enjoy.

  26. Lauren says:

Sorry, RWS, but real feminists don’t get married, not even to dolphins.  We also hate men, aim for bi-monthly abortions, and think children are disgusting.  On the other hand, we all own lots of cats.

    Get it straight, dude.
