Breaking the 4th wall (momentarily) [Last Day!]

Hi, all. Last day for this, then I’ll leave you be!

****
fundraising update: Thanks to all of you we’ve reached our initial goal! But don’t fret! There are other titles I’d pared off the initial list that I’d like to secure for Satch, so any new donations will go toward that purpose. These additional titles include instructional videos from Mark Azevedo, Joe LeBlanc, Tim Flynn and Cliff Moore, Rob Koll, and Jordan Leen, and concentrate on hip heist changeovers, safe leg riding, pinning and turning, leg sweeps, and some coaching tips for creating a successful routine.

Amount raised: Yay! see above

Amount remaining: See above – roughly $55

Some vids to whet your patronage whistles!

Satch puts on a riding clinic, tiring out his opponent until he turns him for the fall:

Here, he uses his Twister to dominate a highly-ranked Brighton wrestler:

Satch at 49lbs vs a 67lb kid in an exhibition match:

This week at practice, Satchel pinned our team’s “Grappler of the Year” Award Winner (Satch won the inaugural “Iron Man” Award), who at 88 lbs. is a good 30 lbs heavier than he. He just has to take the intensity he shows in practice and bring it to the tournament mat. This will happen as he becomes more confident in his skills and spends less time thinking and more time simply reacting and chaining, having trained his body to recognize where his opponent’s openings will be. Against practice opponents whom he knows, he goes full blast.

17-0 Tech Fall in last year’s regionals. He was first trying out his tilt, to limited success. He’s since improved on it.

Once again, thanks to all of you who have contributed. I’m going to pick up this piece of equipment sometime in the next few months (I should have my Mom’s funeral and burial all paid off by then), which — along with a customized Iowa Snap Down Machine and a Takedown Defender — will be all he needs physically to be able to drill on his own or with me. Sadly, because of our size differences, I can’t really show him much by practicing with him on the mat.

    Jeff,

It’s not much of a donation but I fully support your efforts to train your son. I RARELY post here but I have been an avid lurker since 2004 or so. I hope you get back to posting because there are a lot of us out there that have been educated by your words.

Your writing has meant much to me and has helped me get through some personal struggles. I doubt you realize the impact you have had on so many people.

Anyway, I will continue to visit your site and could you let the “possum on the half shell” out one Friday?

    It would make my day.

Thanks for all you have done and will continue to do.

    Alex

Thanks for the kind words, Alex!

And who knows: maybe the little armored rat will show up again one day. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take over the site if he learns I’m not using it very much any more.

My money’s on the ghost of Corey Haim, when it comes to PW-takeovers.

I saw the armadillo drinking a piña colada at Trader Vic’s.

    Thanks, nr!

Jeff, I gave what I could. It wasn’t much, but every bit helps. In any event, it’ll be put to good use.

  8. Jeff G. says:

    Thanks!

Getting really close! Thanks to everyone for your contributions! Satchel passes along his thanks, as well.

His first practice for Colorado Top Team is Tuesday of next week. We won’t be doing any tournament tomorrow because he has rehearsal for the school play, Midsummer Night’s Dream, in which he plays Lysander.

He wanted Puck, but they gave him the lead, instead. Kid has no luck, amiright?

  10. Mueller says:

I didn’t even know you wanted that stuff.

Along with the rest of the menagerie hopefully. Like a fever dream.

I would laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.

  12. Jeff G. says:

    I’d probably like doing it.

I have some other stuff I need to get in order now first, though. But hell: it’d be a nice outlet for me.

    I mean, for them.

prob missed the deadline, but I gave what i could. keep up the good work.
