Since February 1st is Superbowl Sunday — as well as my birthday (I’ll pass on the cake, thanks. It’s broccoli and carrots in a light ranch dip all the way down for me from here on out) — I figured I’d go ahead and get this posted now before most people, myself included, disappear for the winter version of spring break.
Not only is my birthday on Superbowl Sunday this year, but my wife’s is two days later. And Satch’s championship tournament at the University of Northern Colorado comes at the end of the week, meaning I’ll be spending time outside of my normal team coaching sessions prepping him most days. Hopefully Obama doesn’t take my absence to mean he can do any goddamn thing he pleases to my country. Fucker’s sneaky like that.
So, to sum up: as always, if you feel inclined to donate, I greatly appreciate it. If not? Well, I won’t starve or anything like that. But then I won’t be eating steak this month, either. And that’s on you.
update: speaking of birthdays, I was just going through some of my Mom’s things and found an old college portrait photo. Thought you might all get a kick out of it, so I snapped a pic of it with my phone, creating a kind of weird photo palimpsest. Behold, the 80s! And yes, that’s an earring. Like I said: the 80s.
Suddenly I feel like humming a Smith’s tune, then killing myself.
update 2: pub decor additions!
I’m joking, of course. My not having steak is directly tied to my own career choices. Which probably could have been more prudent, had frequent steak been the primary goal.
Compare and contrast: Jeff in the 80’s, above, and Bob, see avatar.
No earring, yet way cooler [and a musician, to boot (in boots)].
The cheap steak days aren’t coming back until the drought ends. And not even then if the cap and trade wackos get their way. Or the healthy(this week) diet at gun point crowd.
I buy roasts and use the crock pot or the dutch oven a lot now. If I wasn’t lazy I’d use the smoker. And I eat more pork and chicken.
What I really miss is the days of cheap Cod and middle priced sword fish and batter fried giant-ass shrimp.
I had to look it up, steak is what ground beef sort of looks like before it falls apart. Interesting.
Hmmm… me in the 1980’s …. SAH mom to four young daughters (I was a gender traitor even then!)
#3 turns 32 on Feb 5.

Happy Birthday Jeff. I hear there’s gonna be some kind of big football game in your honor this weekend.
I don’t post much, but I check in daily, so thanks for all your efforts, especially thru all the really awful stuff that happened to you last year. Hope 2015 will be better and some of this stuff gets resolved. Thanks to you too, Darleen!
Thanks for the kind words, Bob!
Thanks, Lee P!
My wife has gone “gluten free’ which means… There’s nothing in this house to fucking eat! So I figure I will lose weight despite my crazy ass travel schedule and shoulder impingement and massive, debilitating dependence on non-prescription allergy medicine.
Also, all she talks about is gluten. I mean ALL she talks about. Better than the months where all she talked about was crossfit, but still…
Bacardi 151 is gluten free
If your cookies are still missing Cookies (which, that’s just cruel, I say) you can remedy the situation by simply making yourself some churros (may 20 mins. effort — and which by all means necessary hog to yourself), and then put the 151 to use in a Harbor Light, a good winter-time warmer-upper. There are lots of Harbor Light variants, but I’d recommend one with Amaretto on the bottom, Tequila in the middle and the 151 floated on top.

Thanks, cranky-D!
you have very good picture-hanging skills
i just re-used sadness’s holes
Pass on cake? That’s…well….communist.
Photo of a photo with a cell phone?..use HDR mode, if your phone has an HDR setting.
In fact, go HDR mode for all your photos. You don’t need a ton of light, your flash won’t ever trouble you again; just assume a steady rest for a few seconds. It’s like holding a bead on target a couple hundred yards downrange…steady, squeeze gently and hold.
