Frey:

I point out that my words were altered, not to revive or continue a fight, but simply because it’s true, and I want that fact to be part of the record here.

I’m just going to reiterate for the record, legal or otherwise, that the text of Frey’s comments was never altered. Ever. All those posts I detailed are his; all the language in those posts is his; all the structure of those responses is his.

The only thing I did was change the links within a particular comment — one he saw fit to post 38 times (often in dead threads, or under posts I hadn’t written) — in order to shortcircuit what was a clear attempt to Google Bomb me. When he first posted the comment, I left it perfectly intact.

I point this out again not to revive or continue a fight, but because it’s true; and like Frey, I want that fact to be part of the record. It is my sincerest hope that this will be my last word on the subject.

In my opinion, Frey needs to concern himself with the ethics of what he attempted, not with how the site owner saw fit to prevent the damage after the fact.

Which, incidentally, was genius.

update: In addition to leaving the first instance of Frey’s comment spam intact, I likewise allowed links back to his own post on the subject that some of the writers from his site came by to leave in various threads. I’d point out once again that I — and many of my commenters — have been banned from Frey’s site, and so have not been accorded the same courtesy of immediate rebuttal.

– For the good of honest and trustworthy discourse, naturally, which can’t be honest and trustworthy without the proper filtering…
