Queen Hillary: Businesses need to collaborate with colleges and universities to make education “more affordable” [Darleen Click]

Do ignore the $225,000 speaking fee she collected for her turn as Marie Antoinette

Hillary Clinton called for businesses to collaborate with universities to make higher education more affordable in a $225,000 speech Monday night at the annual University of Nevada Las Vegas Foundation dinner.

“Higher education shouldn’t be a privilege for those able to afford it,” Clinton told a crowd of approximately 900 people. “It should be an opportunity widely available for anybody with the talent, determination and ambition.”

The former secretary of State said that many students are affected by student loan debt “that can feel like an anchor dragging them down,” and praised President Obama for increasing federal Pell grants by $1,000.

Her speech fee itself, though, was controversial. Clinton first made headlines in June for the address when it was revealed UNLV was paying Clinton the steep rate to speak at the foundation’s ritzy dinner at the Bellagio hotel and casino.

UNLV students protested her visit, insisting the university instead spend the money on scholarships — as tuition at the school will increase by 17 percent over the next four years.

The students most certainly have a legitimate gripe here.

Or, we could stop driving the price of education ever higher by subsidizing it with tax dollars.

Or is relying on market forces an idea too crazy to work?

  3. Ernst Schreiber says:

Although the businesses Hillary has in mind will probably be happy to put up a little coin for scholarships, etc.

They’ll more than make it back in unpaid “internships” That’ll rarely if ever actually lead to genuine employement for the internees.

We could also stop driving the price of a college degree ever higher by hyping it as the key to future riches.

At its best it was only ever a key to being able to eat on a more or less predictable basis — but if you let that get out, it leads people to go to the local commuter school instead of mortgaging a speculative future to set up fulltime housekeeping in a faraway town in exchange for a designer label on your diploma.

does hilarity charge extra to get a glimpse of her cankles?

We just hired a new system administrator a few weeks ago. Young guy, went to tech school instead of college and is now doing a great job. He is contract to hire and I’ll bet he gets an offer very soon.

College is a good way to go for some people, but not for nearly as many as go now.

If I won’t pay extra for a designer label on my ass, I won’t for one on my wall either.

Since I possess a designer label, though it isn’t on my wall, I’m not sure how to respond.

Gamergate is in a tizzy again because someone claimed to be threatened on twitter on MSNBC, HUffpo, and now CNN. It’s sad watching leftists who just want to play video games come to realize how easily “their” press will lie about them. They whined about Fox News and made excuses for MSNBC and CNN. Now they can’t maintain that illusion anymore with their heroes calling them woman hating terrorists with essentially not real evidence and not letting them so much as object to it.

    Mugged by reality.

    Ouch.

I wonder if this will cause any of them to question their elaborate narratives about the supposed evils of the right?
