Obama to bloviate during prime time — Open Drinking Thread [Darleen Click]

Allegedly, IWonPenPhone will attempt to make us “understand the nature of the threat and how we’re going to deal with it and to have confidence that we’ll be able to deal with it.”

You know, because we might have gotten the wrong impression about the Religion of Peace what with the beheadings, ethnic cleansing of Christians in Iraq and Syria, and all those rockets into Israel.

We just don’t have the heightened sense of The Other’s culture … (Rotherham offers no comment)

How long will it take, if at all, for the word “Islam” or “Muslim” to cross his lips? And will it be only in the context of admonishing us not to connect the “militant problem” with the Peaceful Religion of Billions?

Please offer your predictions and suggestions. I plan on drinking prior to the start of the speech.

*******************************************************

Jaysus, I was right …

Now let’s make two things clear: ISIL is not “Islamic.” No religion condones the killing of innocents, and the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim.

A game proposal — and if cued to drinking nearly certain to end in a clear-eyed sobriety: take a drink at every mention of the term “Iran” and open reference to the relationship of the United States to “Iran” by, not just the ClownUnderwearGnome, but the working press as well. See, darkness on this issue is all.

This counter-terrorism campaign will be waged through a steady, relentless effort to take out ISIL wherever they exist using our air power and our support for partner forces on the ground. This strategy of taking out terrorists who threaten us, while supporting partners on the front lines, is one that we have successfully pursued in Yemen and Somalia for years.”

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule. Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding. Muslims who do not join the fight are called ‘hypocrites’ and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.

Unlike nearly all of the Old Testament verses of violence, the verses of violence in the Quran are mostly open-ended, meaning that they are not restrained by the historical context of the surrounding text. They are part of the eternal, unchanging word of Allah, and just as relevant or subjective as anything else in the Quran.

The lie that ISIL is made up of extremists must continue, lest everyone realize that the radical Muslims are the ones who don’t want to kill you.

  49. sdferr says:

    ClownUnderwearGnome says ISIS isn’t Islamic?

Hmmm, he just might have a point, if to the same extent he himself isn’t American.

  50. Blake says:

We had an incident at work last year where a Muslim threatened to go “jihad” on a Christian from the Middle East. (Imagine that, a Christian from the ME left the ME. The mind boggles) The Christian was scared out of his wits, and I don’t blame him. The cops were all over the Muslim. Not that that’s much comfort to the Christian, due to the fact it was “just a threat” and the cops couldn’t do much more than warn the Muslim. (pc rules and all)

I’m moving toward a place I don’t like. I suspect if a Muslim threatened Jihad to my face, it would very well be the last threat he ever made.

Anyway, the only reason more Muslims have been killed by ISIS than Christians is due to the lack of Christians for ISIS to kill. Not that President BarelyThere really cares about Christians or much of anything else. Other than speechifying, flying around in AF 1 and being treated like royalty.

  51. sdferr says:

Other than speechifying, flying around in AF 1 and being treated like royalty.

To enlarge on that just a bit, it currently seems as though the ClownCatastrophe’s greatest pleasure is in giving those speeches, in which he does nothing by lie to the faces of every American, and for which he is congratulated and clapped on the back. No challenge ever seems to come directly to his own face (save for during that one conference with members of both parties wrangling over ObaZmaCare, when, recall?, Paul Ryan stood on his hind feet and made ClownDisaster into a puddle of incoherent, self-contradictory and ignorant — if glowering — goo). And so ClownUnderwearGnome congratulates himself, for the Americans are his dupes — and he loves this so.

  52. Mueller says:

In other words, president douchebag halfassed is going to continue doing his halfassed douchebaggy kind of schtick.
    We’re in deep hummis.

  53. Blake says:

sdferr, I remember that, but what I most remember is McCain laughing when President Present kept reminding McCain that “he won.”

Effing jackasses, the both of them.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams were all men who had much reason to be arrogant and prideful, due to past accomplishments, yet, were not. Meanwhile, President Present is arrogant with absolutely no accomplishments to back up his arrogance. Meanwhile, the Founders are derided while the current occupant of the White House is lauded.

  54. sdferr says:

Remember that the ClownDisaster claimed Turkish Premier Recip Tayyip Edorgan as his bestest buddy of all the world’s leaders?

Here’s what he got for that from his bestest bud: *** Turkey will refuse to allow a US-led coalition to attack jihadists in neighboring Iraq and Syria from its air bases, nor will it take part in combat operations against militants, a government official told AFP Thursday.

“Turkey will not be involved in any armed operation but will entirely concentrate on humanitarian operations,” the official said on condition of anonymity. ***

Dr. Krauthammer, by the way, is probably prescient when he warns to expect a Tet type Offensive to be launched by ISIS throughout Baghdad and other major Iraqi cities. Most of all remember the American Saigon Embassy. We can be fairly certain Bakr Al-Baghdadi does.

  55. sdferr says:

About that, about Baghdad that is, we have only to recall how quickly Mosul fell. But here’s the thing: it wasn’t actually all that quick, since ISIS had been in Mosul for a couple of years, patiently laying the ground for it’s planned assault, buying insiders in the Iraqi Army and Mosul police, obtaining intelligence for purposes of planning and prioritizing it’s attack points, carefully undermining the Iraqi ranks, so that when the time came the ranks would split apart and run. The conquering of that city was no spontaneous event, but a masterfully planned and executed assault. So with Baghdad. The infiltration has been underway for a couple of years now, and the attack will come when the time is propitious.

  56. sdferr says:

Morrissey (blindly) says: *** But if he’s hoping for boots on the ground in Iraq and Syria to fight against ISIS, Kerry’s likely to come away disappointed, and boots on the ground is what will be needed to “roll back” the gains made by ISIS, another pledge in Obama’s speech last night. ***

Someone, peering through ClownDisaster’s gobbledy-gook, sees clearly and knows better: *** “sure, US partners have boots on the ground and speak Farsi” ***

  57. Car in says:

Anyway, the only reason more Muslims have been killed by ISIS than Christians is due to the lack of Christians for ISIS to kill.

That is one of those conclusions which require the ability to think rationally – a talent for which an ever-diminishing number of Americans have.

It is also the main reason why blacks mostly kill other blacks. They are simply those in which they have the easiest access to.

  58. geoffb says:

“Turkey will not be involved in any armed operation but will entirely concentrate on humanitarian operations,”

ISIS is getting munitions from somewhere. Ammo gets used up and must be replaced by means other than counting on capturing what you need. What exactly is in that “humanitarian” aid that Turkey is supplying?

Is it similar to the aid which flowed from Libya through Turkey to the “rebels” back in 2012 around the time of the Benghazi debacle? Remember, the last person to meet with our Ambassador was the Turkish official [who later was said to be the Turkish Ambassador IIRC].

  59. -Sdferr wrote: …So with Baghdad. The infiltration has been underway for a couple of years now, and the attack will come when the time is propitious.

There’s a decent chance that’s what’s happening here, as well.

-It’s interesting: more and more people I know – not a large number, by any means – are talking about the virtues of a well-placed bullet to a certain Traitor’s head.

  60. geoffb says:

Insty linked to Althouse where she is talking about the Walker/John Doe probes which I paraphrase as, lawyers do not lie but do make sure that the truth told will leave an impression that may be contrary to the whole truth.

That describes this paragraph in Obama’s address last night.

In a region that has known so much bloodshed, these terrorists are unique in their brutality. They execute captured prisoners. They kill children. They enslave, rape, and force women into marriage. They threatened a religious minority with genocide. And in acts of barbarism, they took the lives of two American journalists — Jim Foley and Steven Sotloff.

    Which reduces to:

“[T]hese terrorists are unique … they took the lives of two American journalists — Jim Foley and Steven Sotloff.”

All the rest cited is not unique to ISIS but is common to all Islamic warrior groups since the beginning of Islamic conquests. But the impression left is that all the cited horrors are unique to ISIS and that was what this paragraph, and the whole of the speech, was there for. To leave an impression that is quite contrary to truth.

  61. sdferr says:

Actually, winnowing the 535 would be more effective than making a martyr.
    I keed, I keed!

  63. cranky-d says:

The damage is already done. The bullets will be saved for our “fellow Americans” when they come to kill us.
