– We broke Russia the last time around in the arms race, so the Marxist bastard Progressives decided the best way to beat down America was to spend the entire treasury on the inner city handout whores.
You know BBH? never thought of it that way before. If you go back to 75 though, it makes sense. They cut off funds to aur allies, causing the loss of Vietnam. Was that step 1? Or did it start in the early 1900s? Not entirely sure, need more beer….Ummm, I mean thought…And then, almost immediately after, welfare exploded. food stamps, gubmint cheese ( and pork, yummy) and rice, etc…
I know this post isn’t exactly worded correctly, but I have faith in y’all!!
– OT….Don’t know what the hells going on with the Padres. Can’t be the water, we have a deep drought in progress, but they have been going absolutely nutso since the all-star break, and benefiting huge from the last minute trades. This kid Medica, a walk-on tri-out rookie, is playing insane (0.750 for the last 12 games), and so is cabrera, and all the rest are doing well. If they play anything like this for the rest of the season we make the play-offs. After suffering with this team through the first half its hard to believe the way they’re playing.
The Peace Dividend was just a ratcheting-up of what had been occurring since at least the 1960’s.
Tax monies were diverted from the Armed Forces and infrastructure maintenance / new construction [unless some pol wanted to have a new bridge or something named after himself or wanted to reward some cronies…or both] into Social Welfare Programs.
As a consequence, our Military has been decimated several times and roads, bridges, the grid, etc. are all very old and vulnerable to attack. Yet, when driving through most towns and especially cities you see an abundance of ‘community centers’ and dependency distribution offices.
BBH, take a look at FanGraphs’ projected season(s) numbers (with of course, a large dose of NaCl alongside): my favored team currently has a .564 wp, yet is projected to finish the remaining 52 games at 26-26 (you can imagine my guffaws). Maybe you can reckon the Paaads will do better than .487 in their remaing 51 (25-26).
– I see it sdferr. That chart projects a slight rise in avg for all teams in both leagues, keeping everyone in the same position through the end of the year. The Pads are playing way over 0.468 since the all-star break, over 0.788, and both the Cardinals and Atlanta are struggling. The Pads just finished another sweep against the braves this weekend.
– So yeah, per my comment, if they keep this up they’re in the playoffs. Probably not, but its fun to dream.
a slight rise in avg for all teams in both leagues
That can’t possibly work (not to mention it is not what the chart reveals) in a zero-sum numeration. Each team which wins a game defeats a team which loses a game, so some may go up but others must go down.
– You are correct that teams are projected to both increase and decrease their win/loss percentage, as it must be of course. However, overall looking just at the final projected standings in both leagues, no team changes its current position.
– That can’t happen if the Pads, just for one example, keeps playing at its current pace.
ah, I think I see what you’re seeing: that the actual current standings are maintained in the projected standings. ~ yeah, I’d don’t think that’s going to cohere 100% with actual year’s end outcomes, though I could be wrong about that.
– I stand corrected on the Cards and Brewers, particularly the Cards, who seem to be falling apart for some reason. I’m not privy to the team/players situation with the Cards. I’m sure there are injuries or trade effects involved but all I know about them is their win/loss ratio has dramatically flipped. Same with Atlanta for the post all-star period.
I have never heard a lefty going on about the financial cost of war say anything like “the tax payer should not be burdened with the cost of George Bush’s war”. No, it is always that the money should be spent somewhere else.
ZOMG wah wahwah wah WAHH!
ZOMG you are still an attention whore.
There is probably a good lesson in this story for us all.
If there is another cold war, we are in deep shit. Being as we are the most broke nation in the history of broke nations, including the USSR.
Putin probably giggles himself to sleep each night, seeing a plan come together so sweet.

Pretty much, BBH. All that “peace dividend” bullshit was with malice aforethought.
And premeditated ire.

Here’s a ZOMG for miley: Juan William sez the Democrats have a white problem
I’d worry about all this stuff but Francis Fukuyama says history is over so what’s the point. The future’s so bright I gotta wear Bluetooth shades.
history is still a for reals thing but you have to deposit 25 more cents in 10 9 8 7 6 5 …

that the actual current standings are maintained in the projected standings.
but even that isn’t so, since the Cards are currently in second, the Brewers in first, but the projections flip them positionally.
