I Callahan, I am so glad you said it first. I think the safest thing to say is that virtually everyone on welfare has a poor future-time orientation.
I believe watching my sister make just about every bad decision possible to keep herself in poverty was a big factor in turning me towards conservatism.
She learned much from my mother. Fortunately I decided I did not want to live poor and started working as soon as I was legally able.
