To Jeremy Olson for Hitchcock’s The Wrong Man—considered by many to be Hitch’s most “realistic” film (based on a true story). I watched it the other night and quite enjoyed it. A strange departure for Hitchcock, and but for the exception of a few signature touches could very well have been a Kazan film.
Thanks also to David Hutchins for The End and Quadrophenia. Believe it or not, I’d never gotten around to seeing Quadrophenia—and The End is a very underrated black comedy, one that I was inspired to revisit recently after watching all the old Thin Man movies with Myrna Loy, who gives one of her last big screen appearances here.
And finally, thanks to Todd Day for “Reno 911” Season 1. Absolutely hilarious—and I highly recommend it to those of you who haven’t watched it (and I hadn’t) but who are fans of Spinal Tap. I’m going to have to pick up the other seasons when I finish this one (I watched about 8 episode in the last day or so already).

update: Thanks, too, to John Nowak, for the Under Fire DVD, which arrived this afternoon. Anything with Nick Nolte and Gene Hackman in it has to be good. Looks like I’m going to have a busy weekend…

I’m definitely with you on “The End,” if it’s the one I’m thinking of. Is that the one where Dom Deluise wants to kill himself and he keeps screwing it up?
That’s the one. Been years since I saw it. Looking forward to watching it again.
I just rented the two disc Citizen Kane and really recommend it based on Peter Bogdanovich‘s commentary track. It’s as close as you’re gonna get to hearing Welles discuss the movie scene by scene.
Also, it’s mentioned somewhere in the 2 discs that “Rosebud” was Hearst’s nickname for Marion Davies’ genitalia.
FYI, “Reno 911” has a definite quality dip after the first season, but stick it out – it comes back up and again delivers the funny.
TW “english”, as in “The Jew cleverly used “english” as his Turing word to attempt to appear to be an Anglophile conservative, but we of the true white race were not fooled!”
Fully agree on Reno 911, JG. I got hooked a few weeks ago when Comedy Central ran a marathon of Season 3. Went out and bought Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and haven’t looked back.
If you haven’t seen the episode from Season 3 where the kids’ show host visits the police station, look for it on Kazaa. A classic.
Watch Reno 911 if for no other reason than that the guy who directs it is a friend of mine from high school.
Well, either that, or watch it because it’s really funny.
They identified me? Crud.
