No I didn’t see the other remake. And yes, I grew up watching Godzilla, Mothra and other rubbersuit monster movies on Creature Feature on Saturday afternoon.
However, I loved this trailer and am will to be convinced. :-)
Yes Leigh, It is great fun. Despite my best friend’s (oops, that would be my wife) distaste for mst3k, she bought the tickets for the previous show we attended, and she had a great time.
Nothing makes me happier than sharing a guffaw with my best friend
That’s great steph. I used to watch mst3k on the weekends with my boys. They knew the theme song and really liked Crow (whose head is a catcher’s mitt, btw) and the other robot whose name escapes me.
We watched more crappy movies with them and Joel. I was sad when they cancelled. At least they are doing the RiffTrax thing now.
rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc was my first online fandom. We discussed everything but the show, which was in keeping with the spirit of the thing, just lots of one-liners and general fooling around.
The stars of the show popped in from time to time, wherein I got birthday wishes from Kevin “Tom Servo” Murphy, on account of we share the same day.
Oddly enough, that celebrity callout didn’t change my life at all.
Saying I don’t think the original can be beat does not mean I didn’t like the remake. I didn’t say whether I liked the new remake or not, as I haven’t seen it yet.
To answer your question though, I like ignoring you, so please refrain from addressing me again.
How can any right thinking person want to see a movie in which a dumb homophobic monster destroys San Francisco?
Warner Brothers needs to look gay people in the eye and see the hurt they’re about to cause because they’ve chosen profits over gay people –especially their gay employees and gay movie-goers.
Brings to mind Cloverleaf, which was a big disappointment. Cool trailer, though
Studio PR departments are weird. Sometimes they can get a bad movie to look good and many times they can squish a really good movie.
I have a good friend who is a screenwriter. His movie (hint Denzil Washington was the lead) was about “X”. Marketing people said “Well, we can’t make the trailer/posters/campaign feature *X* because Americans are not excited about *X* …
movie did good but not spectacular in US
Opened overseas with the campaign featuring *X* … did more than three times the business there.
“How can any right thinking person want to see a movie in which a dumb homophobic monster destroys San Francisco? ”
No no no. Godzilla is Gaia’s righteous outrage at man for doing Nukular Science! and not voting democrat enough. He/(or she if it’s Gigantes, technically Godzilla is just a skeleton due to the Oxibomb ) is doing the sacred work of nature and even San Francisco deserves it.

As Frank Black put it. back in his Pixies days: ” there’s a hole in the skyyyyyy! Everything is gonna burn, we’ll all take turns, I’ll get mine too. ”
Liberals LOVE the idea of mass destruction that they can blame on non liberals and lapsed liberals. Remember the response to 9-11 before it got shouted down? :The chickens have come home to rooost! Blowback! This is proof that America is an empire and the world hates us and we deserve it!
The only thing that bothers me about this is that I’m wary of reboots. And Godzilla has been rebooted several times.
Now we need remakes of Robocop, Terminator, Batman is getting rebooted in the next Superman sequel, which was itself a reboot, Fantastic Four is getting rebooted, Planet of the Apes got a reboot, Spider-Man got rebooted, Jack Ryan is getting rebooted, Conan got a reboot…
Like…make some new movies guys. Oblivion was okay even if it was Tom Cruise in an extra long Outer Limits episode with weapons made by Apple. Pacific Rim was fun even if it was a pastiche of Kaiju and robot stuff blended with Western sci-fi design. Don’t give us Carrie remakes.
– Speaking of entertainment, apparently A&E’s hypocrisies go only so far and no further (than the bottom line you sillies.)
– Besides most of the lite-in-the-loafers gang probably have the hots for Robertson.
I think it really chaps their hide that the Robertson’s couldn’t care less about teh gheys feelings.
The big meanies.
Darleen,
I am totally going to see the Godzilla movie.
Did you like the first remake?
Personally, I don’t think the original Godzilla movies can be beat. The campiness was half the fun!
It’s like trying to remake Willy Wonka. I don’t care how many computer generated midgets you create, it still won’t be as fun.
No I didn’t see the other remake. And yes, I grew up watching Godzilla, Mothra and other rubbersuit monster movies on Creature Feature on Saturday afternoon.

Dang, Lee. Is there anything you like?
I’m attending the LAST live Cinematic Titantic Show fka MST3K, show this 30th. They always did a great production of Mothra. And Godzilla.
Brings to mind Cloverleaf, which was a big disappointment. Cool trailer, though. Godzilla sounds the same all these years later!
How fun! I wish they’d come out here to the hinterlands.

Gamera is Friend to Children!

Gamera is full of turtle meat!
In the not too distant future…
gamera is cool
Oh and Leigh , Servo kicks Crow’s ass!
the other robot whose name escapes me
Tom Servo (the gumball machine with arms)?
Thanks! Yes, he is a gumball machine with arms.

Baffling, that.

Can’t help yourself, can you?

Thanks in advance.
Took you long enough to come up with the obvious, Lee.
Have a happy new year.

Ten bucks says they’ll call the next massive quake that hits the area “racist”.
Crow’s head uses a hockey face mask, soap dish, and plastic bowling pins).
You’re right, bg bear. I don’t know why I was thinking catcher’s mitt instead.

The old joke about headlines goes:
Local Trappist monastery collapses. All 22 Belgian men inside killed instantly. Women and minorities hardest hit.
