Sort of reminds you of the old joke, “why did the man climb the mountain” — although the traditional punchline, “because he can,” gets replaced here by the more subtle “because He can.”
Time to admit what we all know to be the case: If you are going to try to restrict religious liberty by decree, and then use the instrumentalities of your police state to enforce that theft of conscience, than you are making of yourself a god, presuming to control a natural right protected from government under the First Amendment. And that’s what the progressives believe, nearly to a man: that the State is God, and so has the authority to make such decrees and police them for apostacy. And anybody who doesn’t accept that new reality — that progressive paradigm shift — can worship their golden calf, so long as it doesn’t interfere with the designs of the State.
— And provided they pay taxes on it, and then after they die, do so again or forfeit it to the government. Because the State demands its tithes.
And John Roberts has shown he’s willing to make sure they can demand them. So long as his “legacy” is one of comity and compromise.
Asshole.
How many divisions does John Roberts command?

Bribery and coercion — appeals to the vice and corruption of human nature, both — the conventional principles of progress as progressives understand that happy concept, insofar as those principles tend to result in the aim progressives desire: their own accumulations of power. Which, hey . . . Lincoln warned as much in 1838.
Forcing private entities to do things the Government considers good, that they consider evil, in the name of Public Welfare…that horse done left the barn years ago.
He’s more like Dostoevsky’s Grand Inquisitor, who condemns Christ for having given people too much of that icky freedom, which exposes them to the full consequences of their choices but doesn’t fill their bellies.
So the Inquisitor insists that people like him had to “fix” Christ’s message so that it would spare people of the horror of free agency, keeping them all comfortable and opiated and feeling pious without the hazards of actually acting for oneself.
It’s exactly how Obama and his ilk see the Founders: they provided all those negative rights, but they left out BREAD.
So the progressives are fixing this glaring omission, doing for us what those slave-owning misogynists refused to do: stop us from hurting ourselves with that dangerous freedom and hurtling into the Darwinian abyss wherein the weak die from oppression and racism.
Because compassion.
Because compassion is and always has been a convenient cover for because utility, which emerges every now and again in an admission against interest. But hey! Utility!
Remember: conscientious objectors who refuse to kill the nation’s enemies are heroic iconoclasts who deserve to be respected and celebrated. Conscientious objectors who refuse to kill the nation’s unborn children are ignorant cousin-humping godbothering Teatards who deserve to be pilloried and persecuted.
PROGRESS!
