Of course, by denouncing Phelps, I’m not doing anything that a host of “rightwingers” haven’t done on any number of previous occasions, but then, that’s hardly the irony here.
No, the irony is, Fred Phelps is a Democrat.
Which means, of course, that in his feeble attempt to smear all Republicans with the actions of extremists like Phelps, TChris has inadvertantly succeeded in smearing all Democrats with that same silly brush.
But no worries, TChris. I promise not to tar all Democrats with the “extremist” label simply because Fred Phelps happens to vote Donk.
Well, provided you DENOUNCE THE HATE!
After all, we know that God isn’t punishing American soldiers for defending a country that harbors gays. Instead, it is clearly dialectical materialism that is punishing American soldiers for fighting on the side of a capitalist/imperialist hegemonizing force against the inexorable tide of history’s march toward a socialist utopia.

I swear I cannot stop laughing! OMG! This is the funniest damn thing I’ve seen in a long time. It even tops the sweet little Kodee debacle of last week…and that was some serious hilarity. I keep imaging TChris’ sanctimonious face turn to a snarl, and a scream of “Curses, foiled again!” rise from his throat as he realizes that if he had just clicked on one more Google return he could have avoided looking so pathetically stupid.
After a day like I had at the office, this is just what I needed.

It’s moments like this that argue most persuasively for the existence of a just and hilarious God.
The Phelps thing always bugged me because his movement/”church” is literally made up of his friggin’ family, which numbers something like 25 people or so, and who are universally treated as whackjobs and sickos by any Republican who has ever commented on them.
But even if I had known he was a Democrat all along, I don’t think it would be approrpiate to use him as a cudgel against Dems, because it’s clear he’s an ostracized nutball.
So I have to admit, this looks suspiciously like cosmic justice to me.
It doesn’t matter which party he registers as, that Phelps guy is just plain creepy…
I think every blog should probably create a little disclaimer audio file for itself, read in a soothing voice like the list of possibly fatal side-effects at the end of a prescription drug ad. Like, “This blog hereby formally disassociates itself with Pat Buchanan, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Fred Phelps, Trent Lott, Strom Thurmond, Justin Raimondo, any and all Neo-Nazi or Holocaust denying organizations. . .and we might as well add Hitler and Stalin for good measure. Strom Thurmon, Jesse Helms, George Wallace and Lester Maddox were all Democrats. For most of the last century, the Democratic Party was the Party of the Confederacy. The deep South always voted for Democrats.
When Kennedy and Johnson made it clear the Democratic Party no longer would support the racist Dixiecrats, the Republicans rushed to get the racist votes. Nixon’s southern strategy and Reagans idiotic code words will always be a blot on your Party. Your glee in discovering some Confederate throw-back only points out how deep your Party has sunk.
First off, the Repubs aren’t my party. And lord knows they aren’t perfect. The problem is, that right now they are the only serious party in town. Mostly becuase some people are more interested in forty years ago than today.
Those same people seem to be pleasantly oblivious to the current qutoa system the left insists the democratic party maintian. Like wise, they are oblivious to the unmitigated evil that has spread over the Middle East and threatens even our shores. Perhps we shouldn’t call these people democrats.
Perhaps we should lable them oblivious. Senators Boxer, Leahy, Kerry, and yes, Kennedy would, of course, be the oblivious party’s leaders. Folks that are still blathering about the “Southern Strategy” while ignoring the disaster places like Detroit have become could be the delegates at its convention. Just a thought.

Once the back of Jim Crow was broken, there was little left of Democrats’ appeal in the South. The old cross-burners stayed Democrat, and the party didn’t lose it governor/senator/congress Dem edge until maybe 1990-94. Or some 30 years after JFK/LBJ got religion.
What happened was the old KKK Dems stayed Dems, and died out. Younger voters, without the “blot,” went Republican.
So, cherish your blot, because the party earned every pixel of it.
