David Fischler looks into the Facebook double standard for what comes to count as hate speech worthy of censor, in this case, its defense of an anti-semitic Holocaust denial page.
Now, Facebook being privately owned can do what it pleases. But the fact that it can do as it pleases doesn’t mean we can’t criticize it for making obviously “anti-foundationalist” decisions that are awash in hypocrisy.
I don’t have much to add to what David writes, save this: it’s a sign of the times that those who evince a public skepticism over man-made “climate change” via human exhalation are painted as climate deniers and are to be drummed out of polite company; and yet those who deny the Holocaust — from which group of historical illiterates the climate change zealots took their condemnatory phrase of “deniers” — are somehow to be protected and embraced as a show of protecting “free speech.”
Up is down. Black is white. David Duke is real mensch!
Lately “Polite society” has been a bit too poor, ignorant, angry, useless, paranoid, and stupid to really deserve the moniker.
Contumely wants a boost, as it has been too little properly used of late.
“Polite” society bought into the notion that it needed to be polite to the crass and boorish too. Because the crass yell back and the boorish swing first.
“Polite” society thus revealed itself as more cowardly than polite.
facebook does not add value
They may hope that some future arabislamreplacementreligion will refer to them as the people of the facebook, while the people of the facebook will refer to the arabislamreplacementreligion as the people of the assbook.
Yes, ‘contumely’, a fine, useful word – especially in these dark times.
– That the social networks are all pandering to the melenia youth who comprise probably 99% of their customer base is sure a surprise, yes sir-ree-bob….(whos bob?)
