update: “We don’t want to debate with people who don’t understand our point of view.”
Well. So much for that call to “address the arguments,” then.
And remember: free speech is only appropriate when it’s offered in the service of dissent. Beyond that? RIGHTWING FASCISM!
(h/t Jeremy Winer and outlawdog)

Where have all the dipshits gone?
Long time passin’
Gone to Crawford, every one,
Long time gone…
Hey, this is easy!
One of the VH1 channels ran the movie Woodstock over and over this past weekend. I wonder if these new kids have been taking notes.
They sound and dress the same.
It’s kinda unnerving.
In a way I kind of hope they go into the peace-nik obsessed, nudity laden, free love fest in Crawford. Mostly because it’s summer and people sunburn really fast. Burn hippie, burn.
Disclosure~ I have stock in Johnson & Johnson who makes Noxema and Aloe Vera skin creams. It’s all about the cash.
I’m more worried about a topless grandma. Evidently, Billy Jack is, too.
Not only unnerving, but quite pathetic.
OUR DISSENT IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF PATRIOTISM!!
YOUR DISSENT IS THE LOWEST FORM OF FASCISM!!
Nice to see that Atrios gets it. My free speech includes criticizing your speech, and your free speech includes criticizing my free speech. God love the first amendment.
Obviously, you missed a crucial part of what Atrios wrote:
See, when there’s money behind it, it’s no longer free and must therefore be suppressed.
See? No inconsistency there. Sheer, raving lunacy, but that’s Atrios’ stock in trade.
it’s no longer free speech and must therefore be suppressed.
Sosumi.

W LIED AND SOLDIERS DIED…. HOW IN HELL IS THAT SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS? GET A CLUE PEOPLE!
“fecis”? “W LIED AND SOLDIERS DIED…. HOW IN HELL IS THAT SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS? GET A CLUE PEOPLE!”
Uh oh. Looks like the lefty trolls have sent in their B-team.
Seriously. I can’t tell the parodies from the actual trolls any more.
No parody….
As just about everyone has seen, the new ARG poll has Bush below the 40 percent mark.
American Research Grop. 8/18-21. MoE 3% (July results)
Bush approval ratings
Approve 36 (42)
Disapprove 58 (52)
As Think Progress notes, these are lower numbers than Nixon during Watergate.
At this point of his second term, Clinton was at 59 percent. Reagan was at 60 percent. Nixon at 39. (Though to be fair, the Nixon numbers were Gallup, while this poll is ARG.)
So what’s causing the downfall? On the domestic front, Bush has had a pretty good last couple of weeks, with passage of the energy and highway bills and CAFTA. So what’s causing the meltdown?
Well, his Republican support is starting to crack (down to 77 percent approval). His favorability on the economy is 33 percent despite the administration’s economic triumphalism in the past few weeks (down from 38 percent in July). Seems that the public isn’t happy with the kind of jobs that are being created.
What’s causing the downfall?? Gee…I don’t know…lemme think.
Could it be 24/7 FREAKIN COVERAGE OF CINDY SHEEHAN AND THE PROTESTORS CHANTING OVER AND OVER THAT OUR BOYS ARE DYING FOR NOTHING?????? AND WHY CAN’T THIS COLD PRESIDENT MEET WITH THIS GRIEVING MOTHER????? COULD THAT BE IT?????
Everyone knows that that AGR poll is just a bunch of dog extramint.
And this is where we need more objectivity, steady leadership, and less poll-watching, Wisa…
Iraq is not the shipwreck that those on the left make it, nor is it all happiness and light–and despite what you peddle, the President has never claimed that it is.
As for the economy–if you were faced with a stream of media stories that are scandalously short on pointing out the positives–and please give me examples of unhappiness over “the kind of jobs being created”–that’s a straw man thrown out there every time one of you guys opens your mouth on the subject. If low-wage jobs are the order of the day, they sure are generating A LOT of tax revenue.
Finally, I’d like to see a companion poll on who the American people trust for eventual success in Iraq. I’d be willing to wager a significant amount that the President would be favored just like last fall.
My two cents.
I’ve never heard of the American Research Group, but I have heard of Rasmussen, and their latest poll (out today) has Bush’s job approval at 48%.
Given the relentless Mother Sheehan coverage, rising oil prices, and the media’s sudden appointment of Chuck Hagel as a “senior republican senator,” that ain’t too bad.
So much for the McJob canard.
Just holding to our side of the gentlemen’s agreement: We let you win the mock elections, you let us win the real ones.
“We don’t want to debate with people who don’t understand our point of view.â€Â
That really cracks my ass up, btw.
Jeff,
When you get around to doing an update of the lefty rant–please include “McJobs” and “outsourcing.”
Something I said?
We understand, we just think it’s gotta be some kind of a freakin’ joke. Nobody’s really that stupid, are they?
Maybe so…

Mojo–you miss the point:
Understand = absolutely agree with.
No thanks–I remember the 60’s and they are not something to be nostalgic about. Period.
Come on, fess up, which of you rightwingers is pretending to be that w-idiot?
The GOP’s secret operative (code name Indyc Naheesh) also continues to do an excellent job discrediting the Left. As yet her deception remains undetected, despite some compromising stories about a friendly meeting with Bush.
Karl Rove is very proud, people.
Joan Baez showed up at the moronic convergance down in Crawford.
She sang “Let’s Do The Time Warp, Again”
I clicked the link. God help me, I clicked the link. Or random fluctuations in an inert plasma help me, I clicked the link. The post itself was mildly objectionable, but the comments…hurt me. At least four standard deviations from the norm, negatively. I have done horrible and questionable things in my time, but please do not make me do that again. The inanity, the banality and the demonstrably untrue “superiority” of the posters forced me to question their maturity. Is it possible that radical liberals are really hyper-pituitary two year olds? The entire “What I do is correct and what you do is evil” supports this hypothesis as well as the “Nyanny Nyanny Boo Boo” response to criticism. OT: My macro-econ Prof. today said that there was an inverse relationship ‘twixt intellegent voters and Republicans elected. First day of class. I’m just going to keep my head down, but I truly worry about the impressionable youth. If he gets out of hand I may have to ask for mail-in assistance, while I scope dark alleys.
Now that I have actuallly posted on the risible Atrios I feel a sense of relief, and a gnawing worry. Will the minions read my post, be shamed by it, rethink their positions? All extremely doubtful, yet my mind goes back to it like a tongue to a missing tooth. I’m going to have to go back and check. Just a quick shufti, even though I, rationally, don’t want to. Confusion: is bad attention (or in this case stupid attention) better than none. Resolution: Fuck’em and said horses that they might have rode in upon if they did not feel that horses were “enslaved beings”. I’m tired and I’m going to watch Big Trouble in Little China again, and probably fall asleep on the couch. Thank you for letting me get that off of my (politically correct metaphor for chest).

The name is Wis?

And the remainder afuckingidiot is your self identification?
pinky: I post at Atrios about once every six months, and get seven parts flammage to three parts serious engagement in response. Many of them know me from elsewhere in the blogosphere, so they know I’m not a troll. The trick to getting a lucid response from them is to not lambaste them collectively. They aren’t all alike, unlike the aluminum-chewers at DU.
wishbone: Someone’s gotta say it: If you remember the Sixties, you weren’t really there! As for me, all I need to know about the Sixties, I learned from MAD magazine.
And as for poll numbers, in times like these it pays to google the phrase “summer soldiers”. We’ll be dealing with the jihad for the next generation at least, folks. At least we’ve got another generation coming, unlike those European countries Steyn keeps warning about.

If you had any fucking smarts period you would see the irony in spelling “bored” incorrectly in the context you nominate. Is this an example of the general level of intelligence here?
Anyway, at least as far as the comments before you – there is no debate going on here in the first place. It is a self-congratulatory jerk-circle of Sheenan-haters. There are no contrary pov’s. Maybe I read it wrong.
If anyone wants a debate I am up for it. The first thing I want to debate is that I maintan that Bush is doing the right thing, politically, staying away from Cindy. Have you seen the way she can express herself – she would make Bush look like a complete moron in an open and frank discussion. He is not nearly as articulate as she is. Her ability to express herself far outweighs his.
Oh – except for Wisafuckingidiot.
Rightwingsparkle? How cute that Jeff has fairies amongst his commentariate?
Anyway … I agree with your theory RWS. No one likes it when the other fellow does not turn up for a fight, it’s human nature! GWB is doing the same thing he did in Vietnam … running away … not turning up … going awol. And his falling stocks are reflecting this.
Oh the sweet irony of my ‘submitting’ word being ‘run’
Dog extramint. Jesus Jeff, some of your commenters really are the full extramint short of halitosis.
Anyone who sees eloquence in Sheehan may be beyond help, but that aside – does anyone actually believe she really wants to meet the President for “an open and frank discussion?”
One thing I am not quite getting is this Turing word thingy that some of your posters use. Is it a reference to Alan Turing, the British Scientist who developed one of the earliest computers .. the Turing Machine? If so then perhaps “TW” and the other related expressions is the image generated word we submit in order to prevent scripts and bots spamming the place.
Well, my Turing word is ‘speak’. As in I have spoken.
What a shame the TW is just an innocuous children’s game – for a moment I thought I might have cracked the yeo-con Zionist Enigma code that youse was using to control the world.
Oh, life at last RS. I’ll give you some examples of what I think is her ability to articulate some powerful ideas, which you may deny … but you can’t deny she has mobilised a whole bunch of people:
I can’t tell you how clever this is if you don’t know, but don’t women vote in America? Here is another:
and again – the reference to his general level of stupidity:
The quotes taken from her speech published at Buzzflash
This woman’s command of expression is very clever. She does not want Bush to turn up. Not now. As long as he is seen as ‘running away’it is to her advantage. I don’t think she wants answers now. I think she wants to take out chunks of his flesh. With each media interview she is doing exactly that.
It’s a joy to see.
Turing word: faith. usage – it will take a lot of faith to make ‘Intelligent Design’ fly.
Yeah, she’s clever at word play, but can’t be bothered to stop the antisemitism and anti-Americanism from dripping from her mouth. I feel sorry for her loss, but she’s just like the pro-fascist Coughlinites from before WWII. That the left has latched onto so many of the fascist arguments, tactics, even the very phrases, would be surprising if it weren’t their constant MO.
Wow! Look at wadward go!
For my money, the funniest bit of the whole thread is that waddy didn’t get that “board” and “extramint” were purposely misspelled, for ironic purposes. Tone-deaf, color-blind, what ever you want to call it; this wadward is one innertainging troll.
No, Wadard, I am not a fairy. I am one of those mothers you spoke of. I have had great sympathy for Cindy from the start. I give latitude to anyone who has lost a child, but it is obvious to me that certain groups are using her and her grief for their own benefit.
And that is disgraceful.
Once again. Bush HAS met with Mrs. Sheehan. Why she thinks she deserves a 2nd meeting when many mothers who have fallen sons haven’t even met with him once yet, is beyond me.
Wad, you’re “Goober” to our protein wisdom “Mayberry.” And you’re doing a great job.
She does not want Bush to turn up. Not now. As long as he is seen as ‘running away’it is to her advantage. I don’t think she wants answers now. I think she wants to take out chunks of his flesh. With each media interview she is doing exactly that.
Wadard, are you calling CINDY! a liar? CINDY! wants answers, dammit, and she wants ‘em NOW.
Salt Lick – wouldn’t Barney Fife be more appropos?
Turing word “cannot,” as in “I cannot believe that Mayberry made it into this thread.”
Yes she is clever with words. That’s called leadership is not? Here is another statement of hers
Any takers from this lot here? C’on – someone tell me my faith in you was not misplaced. You don’t need to fight if that is not yr schtick, you can ‘reconstruct’. Whatever you do in the states, there is a job for you in Iraq. Cindy goes on to make the two points:
Just how is US military recruitment going at the moment by the way … are they not publishing the figures. Again.
Well, yes, inasmuch as Wad often rhetorically locks himself in a cell, Barney Fife does come to mind, but on the other hand, I feel Wad shares Goober’s simpleton desire to please. It’s kind of touching.
Americans do irony now? You must package it with the ‘freedom’ you are exporting around the world – the two are a natural fit. OK OK, you got me – where’s the joke in the following:
Is that like self-effacing humour? Does it work like, “I’ll put myself down and then the audience will laugh”? While you are chewing on that, have an excrement.
TW: quality – like my posts
Point taken, Salt Lick – I felt compelled to reply because my Turing word was “law” – as in, extension of the Mayberry metaphor would make Jeff the Andy Taylor here, obviously enough, but who are the nominees for Otis and Floyd the Barber (and does anyone remember that fantastic SNL sketch when Ron Howard hosted: “Opie Comes Back From the ‘Nam”?), not to mention Opie, Aunt Bea, and Thelma Lou?
Yes she is clever with words. That’s called leadership is not?
No, it’s called sophistry. Leadership is putting your elected office on the line to clean up a mess left by four prior presidents while dodging a hail of flack from second-guessers, armchair generals, and copperheads, some of whom are quite facile with a keyboard.
“If you fall on the side that is pro-George and pro-war, you get your ass over to Iraq, and take the place of somebody who wants to come home. And if you fall on the side that is against this war and against George Bush,
stand up and speak outyou get your ass over to Iraq, and take the place of some jihadist who wants to come home.”Let’s put our money where our mouth is, shall we?
And it is amusing to think of Waddo frantically googling to find out who this “Barney Fife” and “Goober” are and whether he, as a subject of the Land Down Under, should feel insulted or not.
Maybe a Dame Edna reference would be helpful to him?
Just how is US military recruitment going at the moment by the way … are they not publishing the figures. Again.
Yet another thing you are wrong on. The Amry put out the numbers, but your fellow liberals won’t publish them, as it embarresses your “cause.”
Ralph Peters of the NY Post is the only MSM source to publish them:
Every one of the Army’s 10 divisions  its key combat organizations  has exceeded its re-enlistment goal for the year to date. Those with the most intense experience in Iraq have the best rates. The 1st Cavalry Division is at 136 percent of its target, the 3rd Infantry Division at 117 percent.
Among separate combat brigades, the figures are even more startling, with the 2nd Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division at 178 percent of its goal and the 3rd Brigade of the 4th Mech right behind at 174 percent of its re-enlistment target.
The Army is running at 108 percent of its needs for first-time enlistments.
The Army Reserve is running at 102 percent of commitments.
The National Guard is at 106 percent of its requirements.
U.S Air Force, Navy and Marine recruiting have never dipped below 100% during the extent of the war; they have always exceeded requirements.
The chickenhawks seem to be doing just fine, wad.
How many human shields do you guys have signed up?
That should be the “Army” above, not the “Amry.”
Or should it be the ”Ermy?”
R. Lee!
If you fall on the side that is pro-George and pro-war, you get your ass over to Iraq, and take the place of somebody who wants to come home.
If you fall on the side that is pro-Cindy and anti-war, you get your ass over to Crawford, Wadard, and take the place of somebody who wants to shower.
Seriously, Wad, why haven’t you quit your job, left what family you have, and shipped on over to Crawford? Playing hippie from the sidelines, are we? Why not put your ass where your mouth is?
Oh wait …
Confederate Yankee,
I’m thinking you won’t get a response, just as I did not. When you prove them wrong, they go silent.
Because he’s a CHICKENDISSIDENTHAWK!!!1!!
(Spam word “known,” as in “Wadard’s chickendissidenthawkness is one of those “known” knowns.)
Wadard, you do know what a copperhead is, right?
A comment from the Atrios link:
DOWN WITH COMMIE REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVES!
As far as the latter, how do you even do that?
TW: meaning, what is the?
Mr. Wad –
The Turing word is “quality”
As in, I leave more “quality” in tightly coiled droppings in the toilet than your posts.
Cheers – DC
Wadard:
How could he? The Copperheads have been erased from history.
Much as have the antics of the Coughlinites the left has been imitating the last few years.
Wad: “Yes she is clever with words. That’s called leadership is not?”
No… that’s called “glib”. Every con artist and used car salesman is glib. It doesn’t require either intelligence or engagement. All you have to do is put your mouth into gear and yak. On the other hand, some of the most intelligent people in human history have had trouble with speech. Do the names Einstein or Demosthenes mean anything to you?
Yes and Abraham Lincoln was considered one of the WORST orators of his day.
Some prefer form, some prefer substance.
Myself I do not care for the substance of
“this country is not worth dieing for.”
No matter how elequent the delivery
No sophistry is coming to logical conclusions from untested or incorrect premises.
You are projecting RS – that is evidently what you would do. The very amusing thing is that, given the context of these words I have no interest in understanding their meanings. I am sure my life is suffice w/o the wars.
TW: bring, as in “BRING IT ON” hehehhehehehe
Well http://www.dictionary.com
has a vague understanding of the concept.
The above could apply to any of many species of rhetoric. Sophistry is a reasoned arguement based on erroneous assumptions. GIGO. Much like the arguement for so-called “Intelligent Design” theory.
And it is amusing to think of Waddo frantically googling to find out who this “Barney Fife†and “Goober†are and whether he, as a subject of the Land Down Under, should feel insulted or not.
Maybe a Dame Edna reference would be helpful to him?

Wad, I know you believe you’re taking the piss out of the Seppos here, but geez, dude:
accusations of incontinence?
You’ve got plenty of role models down there in the land of Oz for slinging abuse – pay closer attention to the televised question times from Canberra, for example, or head on over to the good Professor Bunyip.
Practice makes perfect – you’ll get there, eventually!
I just want to point out that Wadard has completely dodged, avoided, and ignored the charred remains of what he no doubt thought was a stinging and cutting remark about US armed forces enlistment/recruiting numbers.
Like he never said it. That’s how he reacted to having his “argument”, such as it was, demolished before his very eyes.
He’s the guy in the back pews looking around trying to find out who just let out the very loud fart during the sermon, when in fact, he emitted said flatulence.
For shame.
Yo, Wad! I couldn’t help but notice that you carefully skipped over my comment that she is merely glib, which requires no intelligence whatsoever. In fact, the more she talks, the more pure moonbat lunacy she demonstrates. Reporters who are sympathetic to the anti-war movement are starting to learn not to give her a microphone because she’s making them look like idiots.
Personally, I hope she continues talking. She’s showing the entire world what a bunch of idiots those people in Camp Cindy are.
I dunno. Waddo strikes me as a the Z-team. At best. Amusing, in a “Steve Martin as Ruprecht in ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’” way.
Wadard, are you the Wadard of Iraq the Model noteriety?
Just curious.
Waitaminnit. Is Jeff resurrecting posts?
I see like Marixist-Lenninism. Socialism, and Pacifism, logical at first glance but based on fataly false assumptions.
Just how is US military recruitment going at the moment by the way … are they not publishing the figures. Again.
Uh, Waddi – we are doing just dandy in the recruiting and retention fields, thanks for your concern. I think 21.5 years in AND counting can exempt me from your feeble “chickenhawk” thrust, yes? OEF vet and possible OIF VI deployment good enough for you?
Almost makes me pine for actus (almost…).
