Sorry for joining Friday so late along into the day…

I was greeted this morning by hundreds of spammed trackbacks, and, being the obsessive compulsive site sentinnel that I am, I was compelled to do battle with each and every one of them—immediately!—until the last one was vanquished, its insidious plans, such as they were (does anybody ever click on these things?), foiled once and for all by my menacing willingness to repeat the same deletion process over and over and over and over…

A few things to start, via email:  Tim Worstall writes to let me know that the Guardian columnists I suspected would soon float the Blame Blair / Bush trial balloon are already on the case. Quicker, even, then I suspected, I must say.  Congrats, Mr. Ali. It’s quite a feat, I imagine, to compose such a piece even while the bodies are warm and still twitching.

And Confederate Yankee emails, “Some information came out in the NY Times this morning that the bomb that blew up the bus in London yesterday may have been destined for another target, and that it blew up prematurely. If the bomb was in transit, someone must have been transporting it… and it looks like we’ll find our first suspect in this terrorist incdent in a London morgue.” And, in a follow-up, he notes that: “CNN reports that an eyewitness/survivor of the London bus explosion may have seen a terrorist detonate the bus bomb.” Check out his full coverage here.

Finally, Terry Hastings emails me this link to a nice bit by Ace.

If the spam had insidious plans does that mean it was Jewish spam? And does it contain a secret warning telling other Jews not to click its enticing links?

So Jeff—your blacklist module doesn’t work?

  3. Jeff Goldstein says:

It doesn’t seem to, no—though I dilligently added all of today’s URLs.

It’s not about click throughs – it’s about getting their google ranking up.

    Now where’s that armadillo?

  5. Drumwaster says:

The Blacklist works, once you put the URLs in (or, more accurately, the keywords within the URLs that are likely to come from the trackback spammers.

Today, I had to contend with lots of the “credit card”, so I simply added the words “credit”, “mortgage”, “loan”, “equity”, and “drug” (figuring that the Vi@gra spammers will be next). I threw in an “xxx”, to kill half of the pr0n spammers.

Ya gotta be pro-active. Or else the terrorists win.

By the way, what’s up with the muslim “diaspora” Mr. Ali mentions.  1 – Are the muslims going to steal everything from the jews?  2 – Is a voluntary emigration to places you’d rather be (not the reverse) much of a diaspora.  Sounds more like its just people moving around.

This new website features pictures submitted by people declaring that they’re “not afraid”.

It hasn’t broken down into partisan bickering yet but there’s still time.
