Boston Bombers – Chechnya brothers Tamerlan Tsarnaev 26, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev,19 [Darleen Click]

Tamerlan is dead following a police shootout with police last night.

BREAKING NEWS: Multiple explosions echoed from inside a house as police in Boston massed inside a perimeter set up to contain the remaining suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing.

The situation was fluid, and the latest development came in the city’s Watertown section after a chaotic night of mayhem that included the murder of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer and a shootout with police, authorities said early Friday.

Police believe the two suspects from Monday’s terror attack are brothers, possibly from Chechnya, according to sources who spoke to Fox News. The man on the loose was identified as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass. They are believed to have been here for ‘several years,’ sources said.

Schools are closed, train and bus service is suspended and police were telling residents of neighborhoods including Cambridge, Waltham, Watertown, Newton, Arlington and Belmont to stay indoors. Police have formed a wide perimeter and believe the suspect is on foot, armed and dangerous, inside.

David Sirota is taking this news as proving his point (twitter)

    David Sirota ?@davidsirota 2m

My Twitter time line proves my original point: b/c suspects are (allegedly) Muslim, there’ll be a much more severe – and bigoted – backlash

  2. sdferr says:

Local Boston running coverage of the siege in Watertown for the younger brother. Seems he’s holed up in a house there, possibly dead already, but possibly not.

  3. CarsInDepth.com says:

Now that we know the bombers were Chechnyan Muslims, whatever will David Sirota say now that his fervent wish that they be “white Americans” will go unfulfilled?

  4. newrouter says:

as althouse says the bombers are caucasians

  5. sdferr says:

Which, ‘caucasian’, that’s not a caulk–asian, so don’t be going after oriental window workers, you heathens, says David Sirota.

  6. Ernst Schreiber says:

I heard on Fox Radio’s news update that they’re from neighboring Dagastan (sp?), which is like Chechnya, only it isn’t.

  7. Garym says:

They sure look like tea party patriots to me. /

  8. Car in says:

    Sirota knows stuff.

    Prepare for the bigoted backlash.

  9. DarthLevin says:

Is there anything that David “Mr. Pointy” Sirota doesn’t think would “prove” his “point”?

  10. sdferr says:

YouTube posted shootout recording from last night.

  11. Matt says:

*more severe – and bigoted – backlash*

You mean, against a religion that has maintained it hates us and our way of life, wants to see us dead and believes the only good jew is a dead jew? Sirota is a gigantic pile of crap.

Yes, there will be a backlash. Its about GD time. Stop giving student visas to middle eastern “youths” for a start.

  12. newrouter says:

with the bombers being allanheads, this might be true

  13. BuddyPC says:

I bet more than a few of those holed-up, Senate-disappointed Cantabridgians wish they had something bug and a few rounds today.

Hopefully, a few more will take advantage of the home time to reflect upon their deep notions of moral relativism and cultural equivalence, and the feelings of oikophobia which inform them, and realize how strongly they only seem to run one way.

  14. I admit it: I’m bigoted against people who think it’s okay to blow up children — or to stand on their corpses — for political advantage.

  15. sdferr says:

It’s nice to see the flowering trees of New England in the overhead helicopter views lighted up with their pinks, yellows and whites. Happy Spring, New England.

  16. BuddyPC says:

    Something “big.”

  17. Ernst Schreiber says:

There’s a possibility that these two were/are U.S. citizens. At any rate, it appears they immigrated legally in 2001.

I’d really like to know who Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s been hanging out with for the last decade or so.

  18. Ernst Schreiber says:

I’d rather have something “high capacity” than something big, to be honest.

  19. sdferr says:

Has anybody got a link to the story of the circumstances of the police officer killed last night, detailing the incident?

  20. serr8d says:

Anonymous tracked down one of the bomber’s Twitter accounts. Seems he is a left-leaning, Obama gun control supporting terrorist.

Dunno about that Tamerlan one, but a young woman called the Fox 25 broadcast about a half hour ago claiming to have lived down the dorm hall from the younger brother at College (U. Mass?) during the last year. Said she knew him well, hung out with him etc.

I’m thinking either high-church Anglican, or as Pablo suggested, Amish.

    H8ter. Sirota was right.

  26. sdferr says:

Oof bad, speaking of religions, now they’re reporting the Red Sox game for tonight is on hold. Boston could crumble.

  27. DarthLevin says:

speaking of beisbol, sdferr, that was quite the 10th inning at Camden last night.

  28. sdferr says:

Sweet enough, for all the pain incurred getting there Darth.

  29. sdferr says:

It’s peculiar the media reports that Dzhokhar ran the escape vehicle over his brother’s body after Tamerlan had been shot or blown himself up.

I reckon the Army of Islam would not want their victims shooting back…

  33. sdferr says:

I heard on Fox Radio’s news update that they’re from neighboring Dagastan (sp?), which is like Chechnya, only it isn’t.

The father of the killers spoke to the press from Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan. Beyond that, dunno.

  34. Spiny Norman says:

    Jeff,

Who was it who fought to help the Chechens?

At some point, I expect Bosnians and Kosovo Albanians will get their licks in.

  35. DarthLevin says:

Ace is saying that what they thought was the bomber’s twitter account, isn’t.

More ready, fire, aim from our vaunted J-skool crowd?

  36. Spiny Norman says:

Isn’t Dagestan where Chechen terrorists attacked a hospital, after the Russian Army had left Chechnya, restarting the war in Chechnya?

  37. SBP says:

Looking at a map right now. Dagestan is the “republic” that sits between Chechnya and the Caspian Sea.

  38. bgbear says:

“backlash”? I call it one of liberals favorite words “awareness”.

I heard the younger brother was a wrestler. Never can trust those guys ;)

Something tells me he failed to account for the Fore-lash against the Tearrorists bandied about for days in the media.

  43. ThomasD says:

Sticking up a 7-11 makes zero sense to me. It pretty much guarantees an immediate response, immediate identification, and supplies a starting location.

It also says you are desperate for cash. Given the planning that went into everything else, why the sudden need for a couple Benjamins?

Given their already displayed willingness to kill there are many other less high profile ways to get some cash.

  44. ThomasD says:

They seem less like any sort of trained & dedicated sleeper cell and more like a couple of self reinforcing alienated whack jobs.

“One of the men is tackled by the police. The other man gets back into the S.U.V. and drives at the officers, breaking through them.”

I’m guessing -this going by the NUT’s interactive map and timeline- that Tamerlan wasn’t shot dead but killed by Dzhokhar, driving through the police’s physical gang tackle.

  46. ThomasD says:

Which means that, if he survives, in twenty years he’ll be on staff at Columbia.

  47. ThomasD says:

I wonder how many good citizens of Boston, hunkered down in their homes today, are wishing they had a gun in the house?

  48. Ernst Schreiber says:

So, any word yet on how Mike Mulugeta and Sunil Tripathi became Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev?

  49. EBL says:

I bet a few Watertown residents today wish they had a firearm…

Just a couple of wild and crazy Islamist Chechens (alumni from the same school Ben Afleck and Matt Damon went to). You know a lot of left wing media pundits are kicking the cat and yelling at their domestic partner today. They soooo wanted them to be Tea Partiers.

  50. Libby says:

Watching the coverage is interesting. On MSNBC they’ve been painting the younger bombers as some sort of dupe who was just following his older brother. Ooh! One of their experts just mentioned a possible YouTube account of the older brother that included some AQ jihadi videos. Of course, followed by a strong warning to not take much stock in this until it’s confirmed. Where was this caution earlier in the week when they were speculating it was a Tea Party/Nazi motivated attack?

  51. sdferr says:

They soooo wanted them to be Tea Partiers.

Growing up in MA., being schooled there, wouldn’t exactly be the sort of place one would expect to receive a deep education in the American founding though, would it?

  52. Curmudgeon says:

Who was it who fought to help the Chechens? America’s chickensssss….are coming home to roost!

No good deed goes unpunished. :-(

  53. SBP says:

“why the sudden need for a couple Benjamins?”

My guess? They saw the pictures of themselves all over the web and panicked.

  54. Silver Whistle says:

I’d really like to know who Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s been hanging out with for the last decade or so.

Ditto. Self-radicalised and passed on to younger brother? Or one of the trans-Caucasus Islamist exports like Shamil Basayev and his caliphate-seeking school child slayers. Have we got any more Chechen ticking time bombs? Tamerlan is an interesting choice of name. Tamerlan=Tamerlane=Timur.

  56. sdferr says:

Timur made a miraculous appearance from the grave yesterday; said he wanted nothing to do with any connection with these douchebags; that he knew how to massacre and sack kingdoms and it had nothing to do with bombing innocent sport spectators. For the record.

  59. Silver Whistle says:

Timur would have collected the heads and made a tidy pile. Besayev liked to play soccer with them.

  60. leigh says:

“Some reports say the two may have arrived in the US from Turkey and have Turkish citizenship.”

I guess our immigration problems aren’t strictly of the sneaky Mexican order, eh?

  61. John Bradley says:

PJ Media reports brothers are registered to vote in Massachusetts.

Easy, then. Just look for the guy with an “I Blow Up 8-Year-Old Children… And I Vote!” bumper sticker on his SUV.

  62. geoffb says:

So, any word yet on how Mike Mulugeta and Sunil Tripathi became Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev?

That is “the” question to be asked of both the authorities and the MSM.

    Boston could crumble.

    They will. Maybe.

The fate of the game Friday night at TD Garden is unknown. Just after 12 p.m. ET, the Bruins provided the following update:

“Due to today’s heightened security in Boston, we are taking direction from state & local officials, and do not have any updates on tonight’s Bruins/Penguins game. We will update accordingly as soon as possible.”

  65. Squid says:

If they miss a Bruins game because they’re all cowering in their basements, then we’ll know that Boston truly is gone…

  66. leigh says:

I got a notice from the Penguins on FB and the game is on hold for now.

  67. leigh says:

    Shit. Guins just said that.

  68. BT says:

So, any word yet on how Mike Mulugeta and Sunil Tripathi became Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev?

I was wondering the same thing.

  69. The Brothers Tsarnaev

Come gather round me children and lend a faitful ear
to that bloody week in Boston, to a nation gripped in fear
A nation asks a question in a voice so hushed and low
“What drove the brothers to it?”
    Only Allah knows

  70. SBP says:

And the apologetics begin. Stories everywhere about “understanding the roots of their rage” and similar caca.

They haven’t yet figured out how this is Bush’s fault, but I’m sure they will.

  71. Blitz says:

You bknow, the last time I commented on a Bruins game, it was sarcasm… sorry?

  72. Ernst Schreiber says:

And the apologetics begin. Stories everywhere about “understanding the roots of their rage” and similar caca.

    Didn’t the uncle explain that?

“They’re idiots,” I think he said.
